    What a hoot!

The kestrel coat sounds fabulous Robin. I have that pattern yet haven’t made it.

Intimate date with the fairytale muslin went as expected. Sized up, but the “toddler belly” on my seven year old is presenting problems. Will try adjusting darts first.

The sad thing about the Kestrel is that it only goes to a size 8.

Robin, Liesl did a couple of blog posts on fitting the Fairytale dress for the toddler belly. Nicole, the girls look lovley in all their new clothes!

I made a tiered circle skirt for a friend’s Christmas gift yesterday, 13m around the bottom tier! And I have half a Pettiskirt cut out waiting to be sewn.

Yes it is a sad truth about the size 8 maximum. Not every designer has caught on that kids still need clothes when they are bigger yet. That’s where we come in! Isn’t it said for adults that we need to tailor to our body measurements? Then why can’t we tailor to our kids’ measurements also?

I emailed CC regarding the bodice of the Olivine dress and I had a rather interesting response, as in don’t bother enlarging because you won’t be able to get it. Well I haven’t replied back with proof yet but I have worked out how they got the pleated pattern piece.

Bottom line is to not let it if you can stop at what the pattern says it has to. Keep going! It will honestly stretch the skills and create a new appreciation for what goes into making a pattern.

    Here endeth my speech!

Good luck Tamara. I have made it and I certainly wouldn’t bother enlarging it. I am sure you could, I have no doubt, but whether it would be worth the work and whether it would look just right.

Have you a special niece you could make it for? It is a lovely sew, I do understand you wanting to make it.

    🙂

I have sewn up the first half of the pettiskirt and cut out the other side. Tomorrow I need to make a ruffley gathered skirt for myself for a dress up party, I am glad of my ruffler and gathering attachment for my overlocker to make it faster!

Hopefully I will get started next week, well I will have to if it is going to be worn for presentation night. As for the Kestrel coat, my only niece is fourteen so alas is too big. I might just make it for the sake of it one day.

Sewing was put aside this weekend in place of hosting an early Christmas type dinner at the very last minute for my nephew (the big one) as he heads overseas to Thailand for a month for mixed martial arts training. It is such a pity I didn’t know I had to host it a fortnight ago when it was finalised. Oh well.

I am hoping to measure and do a muslin sometime this week of the party dress.

I say go for it Tamara! It might just work out great and you’ll be glad you did it. : )

Oh yes Nicole your girls look straight out of a fashion magazine!

I finished up a blouse and overall in soft fuzzy pink (for miss Waldorf dolly), a doll quilt and blanket (the quilt matches the pone I am making Sarah) and soft pillow all for Miss Sarah’s Christmas gift. Today I will be working on the pj’s for my Nephew’s son’s birthday. Then a snowman quilted table runner, then back to Caspian’s holiday outfit. I do hope to get the puppet theater this week.

Finally finished up Art Museum. Lots of illness hindered my progress, but it’s been awhile since something took three weeks! Next up is a Davy Crockett/Daniel Boone/frontiersman costume for a dear friend’s son’s birthday on Saturday. I dragged my feet on choosing a pattern and then never ordered one, so … I had her bring me a pair of pants and a sweatshirt that fit well and I will make the pattern from those. I’m a little nervous about it, though, becuase the fabric I bought online is not as sturdy as I had assumed. It’s a quite thin microsuede with a good amount of stretch as far as woven fabrics go. The pants will have to be lined, most likely self-lined because I don’t think I have anything appropriate in my stash otherwise and am not sure what I could use that I could buy locally. I may buy the Nature Walk digital pattern because that is roughly the shape I had envisioned for the top … come to think of it, maybe the pants pattern would work for me too …

I cut out two Tea Party dresses in Tula Pink Prince Charming tonight, for Christmas gifts.

I finally got rid of the kids and grandparents for a few hours today (why do grandparents seem to need as much looking after as children?) and put in 3 good hours with my broderie Fairy tale dress. I may go work on the sleeves for a little before dinner.

I’m supposed to be on a conference call about farm succession planning in a few minutes but hubby has the details and he is nowhere to be found!!

I asked the teacher about presentation night item and what is required to wear and she said casual clothes and will ask the choir/ music teacher. So the elaborate silk dress is on hold and in its place will be some other casual clothes. Maybe this is why I was getting an “I don’t know” response when I asked my daughter what she had to wear.

    She needs casual clothes anyway.
