I made myself a red and gold glittery skirt for a dress up party last night so now my house and my friend’s is covered in glitter!
I have started the second side of my pettiskirt, but I needed to vacuum the overlocker from all the glitter. But I have now got it cleaned and re threaded ready to go 🙂

Ha, glitter! Awesome. I have my eye on this stretch champagne colored sequined fabric in one of the fabric stores downtown. $40 /yard and I’ve promised myself 3/4 yd for a pencil skirt the minute I drop the last few pounds.
Meanwhile, all but the zipper of my broderie Fairy Tale dress is done. I modified the sleeves so I could make use of the scalloped selvedge on the sleeve hem. I also altered the neckline a little. Today I was assembling my Swiss dot Olivine dress. I used heirloom style pieced lace inside the skirt pleats. Im pretty pleased with that, but wow is it tricky to get the bodice and skirt pleats to line up! It may just get a ribbon around the waist to cover up the joins.

http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/olivine-birthday-dress.html Not that I think you need it, Melanie. I know you could do it with one hand tied behind your back.

Oh Nicole! I’ve learned lots from your tutes like everyone else. In fact, I made Kitty a red wool coat for
Christmas and I remembered your advice to let the seams rest after pressing and it did indeed improve my press. I think a little ease stitching would be just the thing to get those pleats lined up! Next time. It’s done now and slightly imperfect, but I think the dress will get a small sash or ribbon. I have some doubts about the drafting quality of the pattern, but I like the design of those front pleats. I’m really happy with my lace panels. I may add a little tulle ruffle at the bottom lining to help the pleats stand out a little more. I also wish I had made a muslin, because I would have made the skirt fuller. It’s nice to have an option besides a dirndl/princess skirt, but I feel it needs just a touch more volume.

I finished the current pettiskirt a day earlier than needed! This one is one of my favourites 🙂
I discovered yesterday that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle tanks I made are way to small!

Despite measuring and adding seam allowances to the Ottobre pattern. I suspect my fabric did not have enough stretch. So the middle child is wearing the one made for the eldest! And I will remove the shell from the other one and add it to a store bought tank. Glad I discovered this yesterday not Friday when they are needed for Saturday!
I need to mend a pair of jeans and then I’ll be back to Christmas sewing:)

I finished the pj top. I am hand sewing tiny star shaped MOP buttons over the existing stars printed on the flannelette for some on stage sparkle.

I’ve finished the last nightgown! And posted the pictures! They do look very cute and distinctive for each girl. But I’ll be glad not to have to make another one any time soon!
12 years ago LINKI spent the last three days feverishly sewing a Nature Walk Davy Crockett costume for a birthday party. I finished it thirty minutes before the party – and actually can’t believe I made it, as my sewing machine decided three-quarters of the way through that it would prefer not to sew through the faux suede fabric anymore. Thankfully I had some fusible hem tape that helped us stagger to the finish line. Whew, so glad to be finished with that one!
My girls have a ballet performance on Tuesday – they are bunny rabbits in a two-minute dance to music from the Nutcracker. I have to make them bunny tails. I think I am going to make simple little tulle skirts with the tails attached.

I have cut out a garment bag and I am working on a field trip raglan while I wait to go to the fabric store for zips and webbing. I hadn’t made the field trip raglan for a while and was pleasantly surprised how easy it is! I must make lots more!

Finished Liddy’s ‘Sleepy’ costume.
I made a sleep cap too, with a giant bell on the end.
Now I am working on a fish cap, part of a fish costume for Hugo. Its shiny and tight, he is going to look like an amphibious drag queen.
Its all he wanted for Christmas.
(Just joking, Presentation Night performance)

What a sport H is! Not many boys his age would be up for fish costumes – can’t wait to see pictures of him and L dressed up. Love the sound of a Wee Willie Winkie hat with a bell.
Up early this am, and just finished all topstitching on pale pink picotage/floral short sleeve Music Class – size 6. Waited until I was ready to hem blouse and sleeves, and did it all in pale pink cotton. I really love the collar on this one; the curves are really easy to negotiate.
I’ve made good progress on my first Starling dress; finally got courage to sew on frill down front of dress, and have assembled the frock and lining to the point of attaching to yokes. Then the zipper!!
Christmas gift sewing is being carefully timetabled – those that have to be posted are being done first, down to those that can be delivered by hand in the last days. Other than a Music Box pinafore for my favourite 3 yr old, and a Seashore Sundress for Miss 4, the rest are principally Popover Sundresses – spent exhausting weekend sorting fabric combos a week ago, so ready to cut from mostly already drafted patterns. There are a couple of very small Roller skates as well, but we’ll see how time travels. I’ve left myself a little leeway just in case. No point in making myself miserable with stress. Big help was accomplishing most of Xmas shopping for family which has to be posted to NSW, and always a challenge for two families have ‘everything’ 5 nieces are now young woman, and wall decor, and lanterns should be popular. Better get back to it.
