That is a lovely lining Sharon! And your doll is adorable!
I am planning to finish off the red and pink puppet show Shorts and then tidy my sewing area/kitchen bench!

I’m wondering what the music class skirt would look like in a knit. We were at tennis yesterday and one of the ladies teaching (she happens to be one of the school teachers) was wearing a short tennis skirt that you could swear was the music class. I’m a bit interested to see if it would work with the actual pattern now.
But that’s to go on the list.
Not sewing anything today, still sorting.

Music class in knit sounds cute and comfortable, would you need to top stitch the pleats? Or the gathers may be better in knit but maybe not the look your going for. And hopefully you won’t have to size up with the knit stretch 🙂
I have cleared the bench so I can cut out the next Laura Ingells nightgown, as soon as I line the beanie I am making!

I would experiment with the pleats. This skirt I saw had pleats but not as deep so I may have to shorten the pleated part. Will experiment anyhow.
I have about three tubs of drafted pattern pieces that have been sitting there waiting to be sorted out. It is the last leg of the clean up (I hope) and I am hoping that by bedtime I will have it all packaged up nicely. Having the patterns in tubs is not the greatest form of storage from a visibility stand point. I want to put the most frequently used ones, or the ones of size relevance in a spot where they are easy to view and get to – and pack away. I might punch holes in large glad bags and hang them from hooks and see how that goes.
Tomorrow, I sew!

I finished my beanie and I am sewing the next nightgown! I even added a decorative stitch to the front yoke. I would love to add a matching one to the collar but feel this goes against my perceived minimalist aesthetic and the first one only has matching top stitching so I don’t want to go too overboard on the sisters one.

I Think it would work great Tamara, just as long as it is a sturdy knit. There was no sewing all weekend long sooo now I have to get busy. I do have all the pieces for Sarah coat cut out and ready to sew. (I made sure to have lots of thread) I finally found the right toggles online and hubby was a dear and ordered them for me. I just hope it doesn’t take very long to get them in the mail. I am thinking if I work on it a ton I should (really hope!) that I have it finished. She has been wearing all her light weight coats but it is going to get very cold here this week so it is much needed now.

I wish it were cold here Sharon! We are in for a heat wave and what is looking like a very hot summer!
Today I sew. Not matter if there is still stuff to pack away – blow that for a joke! I am sewing today or I will not get the chance until next week! I have a mini quilt I want to whip up. I might do that today just to get it out of the road.
The pattern stash was making me reminisce last night. I went to sleep dreaming of little girl frilly smocked dresses!

Tamara, we could use some of your heat here! 🙂
I have used all the stuffing in the house and stuffed 3 and a half of the 9 juggling balls I made from LTTS, and worked out an easy way of adding the rice – use a funnel!
I am sewing up the shoulder seams and then onto the collar of the nightgown. I would Iove to get it done today.

You can gladly have the heat! I have had the air con going flat out since 7am and even then it wasn’t too soon!
I couldn’t sort out the pattern pieces thanks to no glad bags left! I need something constructive to store everything. Currently waiting for eggs to boil to make a mansized lunch for the husband who sounds like he is going again (got to love the break downs!)
I am hoping to fire up the sewing machine soon after. I was hoping to have the little quilt finished so I could bind it this afternoon but it doesn’t look likely it will even be finished, or started for that matter. We are having one of THOSE weeks and it is only Tuesday!

Almost done with Sofia’s Christmas dress. I think with a bit of self-discipline I can get it done tonight after dinner.
I was going to finish it yesterday but I got tickets to see Richard II at the cinema, Live from the UK and couldn’t not go. Dresses will wait.
Isabel and I finally agreed on what to do about her waistband – I cut out a little appliqué but I don’t want to change thread in my machine so hers will have to wait until Sofia’s dress is done. I have inside waistband hand stitching, side seams and sleeves left. I really like how it’s turning out.

Christmas dresses?!? I do need to figure out what I will be making for my kids, it is getting close. I was thinking about going with teal colors this year instead of the traditional red and green. I will be using the boy’s Easter shirts , a matching shirt for Caspian with Tea Party pants suit and I have this pretty teal and white fabric for Sarah’s dress but I not quite sure yet of it. I have to post pictures and see what you ladies think.
I did fish all but the toggles of Sarah’s wool coat. We are waiting on the post for the toggles, they are the sewn on the outside kind. She couldn’t be more thrilled! She was “ice skating” around in it last night singing it’s done, it’s done. That’s a great feeling.
Now onto a side project, Sarah has been watching Dora’s Ice Skating movie and now needs a ice skating dress. We have some purple dots on hand that we are using out of my stash and some left over blue from her butterflies dress that we are using, I told I wasn’t buying anything for this dress but she is still very happy and excited for it. I will be using the Fairy tale dress pattern for this but making it sleeveless and no collar with a square from nick line. I do hope to have it done today!

The Dora dress sounds lovely and great use of stash!
I just got an open toed darning foot for my new machine and I have been playing with free motion quilting today. I can see the improvement in my five pieces already. It is very relaxing just sitting at the machine sewing with no interruptions, just listening to it sew 🙂 The free motion quilting is easier than I expected although I have been drawing designs on paper for a couple of weeks and picked designs to start with that resonated with my brain. But very relaxing 🙂

I have been working on both a First Holy Communion verison of the Clever Charlotte Olivine dress and a Christmas coat for Kitty. Today, I spent the whole day on the coat and it’s left so much red wool dust everywhere I won’t be able to switch back to white until I’ve finished and cleaned up pretty well. I did take a break to hem a pair of Philip’s dress pants, proving to myself that I have no place in men’s tailoring. I did a really crummy job with them and found it pretty boring.
The coat, on the other hand, is coming along. I think I like making coats. They last a long time, so the investment you put into them is satisfying. I prioitized budget for this and bought everything at Joann and spent about $60 in materials, but I plan to get two years out of it, maybe more. It’s lined and interlines and I honestly would like it even better if I underlined it too, but that seemed over the top for a child’s coat. Bright red wool, with blavk velveteen for the collar and cuffs, lined with ivory Bemberg and an added layer of cotton flannel for a little more warmth. I added 1 1/2″ to the sleeve length so I could cuff the sleeves to let down as she grows. I even cut out a tiny matching coat for her baby dolls.
After these two, another Commuion dress! This time Fairy Tale in a cotton broderie with an enourmous sash. I’ve also got to start thinking about Christmas pajamas. I bought flannel last year for three sets of matching pjs. Turns out my boys just love the storytime pjs I made last summer, so I vowed to make matching Christmas ones. This has never been a tradition in our house (there was only one of me, so who would I match?) but all the cute Christmas morning pictures on the O+S flickr group, have inspired me to try it out too.

Wow Mel! You are really going to be busy with the communion dresses aren’t you? They all sound so pretty. I have the Olivine pattern and would love to sit down and work out how to size it up. Imogen will probably need a special party type dress for the School Christmas concert as she has a solo to sing – well a duet of one verse actually. It most likely won’t be the Olivine but it would be a beautiful dress to make anyway.
As for pj’s, yes they are needed in our house too – the fabric is taking up two shelves worth and I need the space. I hope you get the chance to make some cute Christmas morning pyjamas.
I have to mend a school dress tomorrow! I paid $54 just to have the hem unravel on me! Charming!
I haven’t sewn all week so I am definitely taking the opportunity this week.
