The red wool coat sounds gorgeous. I have yet to tackle a coat – the Sunday Brunch is the closest I’ve come … maybe next year!

I am working on an Art Museum vest (and have the trousers cut out) for the baby to wear for the holidays. I am making it out of a dark green stretch uncut corduroy (at least, I think that is what it is) I found here for about $2/metre. The lining is a tiny gray and white gingham. The main fabric is very unpleasant to work with, I have found, so I decided to give myself a break and save the welt pockets for a future iteration using more cooperative fabric. He’s not going to use them anyway. This kid will be 9 months old next week but I cut out the 12-18 month size for him and added length to the vest! He’s a big boy.

I am dying to work on a Traveler tunic for myself, though. I cut out all the pattern pieces last night (only 5 if you don’t use the sash!) and pinned the tissue today. I’m really dying to get the FBA underway, cut and sew but I must finish Art Museum first.

Mel, your plans for current and future sewing plans sound pretty thorough, and time consuming. The red coat with the velvet collar (and cuffs?) sounds gorgeous; can’t wait to see a picture of Miss K wearing it. And of course, I’m a sucker for Communion frocks, and if you can outdo the last one you made from organdy, you be able to hear the applause despite the miles between us. Ditto for your baby boy in his trousers and vest, rtwg. I know what you mean about big babies. I finally met a dear young friend’s youngest who at 8 mths old well fills a pair of size 1 trousers although the legs are too long for her. I’ve just cut out a 6-12mth Roller Skate for little Iris Frieda from a piece of quilting fabric with boats and lighthouses on it. (The family has a seaside house that they visit often). It’s such fun to use ‘novelty’ fabric for littlies, and nobody thinks anything of it because the sweet baby faces/bodies make everything look ok.

Dear T, Isabel has the lovely library dress you made to wear for her recital – unless it’s a stinking hot night, doesn’t she? The colours are perfect for an Aussie spring, but I admire the Olivine dress too. I think it would be fantastic as a bridesmaid/flower girl dress – the pleats would lend themselves to echoing the thematic colours chosen by the bride.

I’m aware that I’ve put my twopence into this forum for quite a while but I have been sewing, but mostly planning and drafting and cutting out. I have posted a baby bubble dress on Flickr in the last couple of days (made for a 3 monther who is the product of an Australian father, and an American mother, living in San Francisco )but most of my work is still in the WIP phase because nailing parents to a time to make the final adjustments for their kids’ clothes is seriously hard work!! However, as I am expecting Miss 6, Mum and her older brother next Wed after school, I am emboldened to say that a roller skate, a Chickadee skirt, and Jane Dress (Patterns by Figgy) are all completed sufficiently to be tried on for finalising the elastic, and hems. I’m also working on a CC Starling for this child, too. I’ve done the frill, and cut the charcoal denim dress out but put it aside today to work on a Family Reunion blouse for another Miss 6 which is coming on very well.

I’ve recently bought the Badminton outfit in the smaller sizes, and have traced off Size 4 for the skirt, and top, and was given the Croquet Dress in the bigger sizes by a generous online shop proprietor which I’m dying to try soon. All the other stuff I’ve cut out, traced off or planned I won’t burden you all with just now but hopefully once the fittings/finishing are done, I will be able to steam ahead with these projects. I had dreamed of making all “my”kids summer pjs for xmas but given that time is galloping on, I don’t think it will happen by Santa’s busiest night – something to keep me amused during the quiet and heat of our summer. So keep your eyes peeled, ladies – as I do often at all your marvellous creations.

I fixed a friend’s daughter’s school dress this morning using her machine. When I finished the seam I hit the back of the pedal with my heel to raise the needle, it didn’t move 🙁 Oops, this machine doesn’t have the heel tap to raise the needle! I have very much gotten used to that function already 🙂

I did a little more free motion today and I am now back onto the nightgown.

Vest is done sans buttons/holes. In the end it was an easy sew; I don’t know why I got all intimidated. Those welt pockets would have been cute. Oh well. I started on the trousers last night and did sew the first welt pocket and it was not nearly as troublesome as I had expected, nasty fabric notwithstanding.

Good thing I’m confident because I have to make another Art Museum ensemble for my nephew, and I was considering doing one for a friend’s baby for the holidays.

I am almost done with the Dora skating dress and I did receive the toggles in the post for Sarah’s coat on Saturday so I hope to finish both up today. Then onto a vintage sailor dress pattern in corduroy for Sarah. This just might be her Holiday dress. The a skirt or two for me for sure then my baby boy needs some new clothes and I am excited to sew him some great things too!.

I’m sewing my first ever proper machine pieced quilt block. It’s a pinwheel circle inside a star inside a square, which is probably far too ambitious for someone who’s only used freezer paper for painting stencils before, but hey.

Thus far I’ve mucked up my directions such that the pinwheel looks more like a plus sign. That left me with all the wrong way triangles for the star. I still think it’s working i just have very minimal seam allowances at some points. How anyone could make thirty of them is beyond me.

Mine will be a single block on the back of the LTTS Travel Quilt

The art museum vest sounds really nice. I love gingham! I have a piece of really nice cottan tartan I bought in England a few years ago. It’s now too small for much for the boys, but if by some miracle I get through these other projects (coat took all weekend and still isn’t quite finished – see my other thread/rant about what I didn’t get done today) I’d like to use it for a pair of Art Museum vests. I think it would be a worthwhile sew because they could probably get two years wear out of them. The boys are lacking in church/holiday attire this year for some reason, so maybe I should squeeze that in. I’m thinking silk for the back so it really looks like serious menswear.

I don’t get how someone can make 30 of those fiddly quilt blocks either. I think it’s very skillful, but I’ll stick to doll sized strip pieced ones.

    I truly admire quilters.

Suddenly camp is only two weeks away so I need to get these new outfits made. As a treat I purchased some cotton/lurex (sounds feral but is very pretty) to make Tilly a Christmas Icecream dress. It will be my reward to sew when I finish the big stuff.

At heart, I much prefer sewing little things.

Nicole, they will be the best dressed on camp!

I have finished my second Laura Ingells nightgown, this time with pink accents instead of purple. Only one to go, in size 4. I traced off the puppet show dress last night and drew a diagram of the changes I want to make, this is my reward sewing for finishing the nightgown and a couple of other things off my list.

I actually did some sewing today! I started the mini quilt and almost gave up when the needle started eating one of the tiny pieces. I managed to piece the first three blocks but now have to cut some to size before sewing them into a row. It is going to be tiny! Three by three but the blocks are like three inches when the quilt is finished! I will work to finish it tomorrow then sandwich and quilt but will leave the binding to do next Tuesday at piano.

A little bit of sewing with a four year old today. 🙂

And working on a modified Puppet Show dress without the four year old! I only have one pattern piece still to modify, then I’ll need to see if I can find enough knit in my stash!

I have Sofia’s dress done and Isabel’s dress just needs hemming but it has been put on the back burner so I can try to make a paper pieced TARDIS for the Doctor Who anniversary on Saturday. I managed to score tickets for me and my husband to see it in the cinema and we are both very, very excited.

I have a plan to make a little bag for me with a TARDIS on the back and a cross stitch I made of the Doctor on the flap. I want it to look nice but I’m not keen on putting too much work into it as I may not have another opportunity to use it.

As for other sewing plans – I want to make another tee and leggings set for Isabel with the alterations I made after seeing my first attempt on her (rise too high, leg too short).

I promised Sofia another Playtime tunic and leggings set in the same cloud fabric but in the raspberry colourway, but I don’t think I have enough to do both.

I have a cut of pink with cupcakes that I think I’ll cut out to another tunic, and make her a pair of grey, striped leggings to go with instead.

Pink cupcakes with grey leggings sounds very stylish, and fun, and I love the idea of a Tardis bag – Dr Who is very big in Australia – the music/theme scared me witless when I was small but my brothers loooooved the Darleks. Don’t forget to tell us about the big night, lm.

Nicole, I was beginning to wonder when this famous camp was actually going to occur – what new outfits are yet to come? Saw the vintage track suit on Flickr – is this it for two, or something else as well. An Icecream dress from lurex sounds a hoot for Christmas and Tilly who could wear a paper bag well, will look very cute, I’m sure. Applique of an ice cream for a hot xmas? or a little sprig of holly in her hair?

Sharon, I think SP should be very pleased (and grateful) for the Vintage Sailor dress for a Xmas frock but I thought you said that your littlelest man still fitted into his current clothes. And since I’m thinking of a vest in a striped fabric to match an already made skirt (that was received very well) for a Xmas present, I’m encouraged to know that it’s not as tough as it looks. What I’m dying to try is Brittany’s modified Sailboat top to dress. Really useful for the cooler days in an Aussie summer but airy enough to make of all sorts of fabric.

Tomorrow, I’m finally getting to fit a Miss 6 with several items so I can finish the outfits – and get them out of my cupboard, and into Flickr.

I couldn’t help myself, I made a matching doll baby coat. In wool. With velvet collars and cuffs. I *lined* it. Please go ahead and laugh at me. It’s just that baby doll has a matching xmas dress from last year, complete with tulle and a lining, so I figured she may as well have the coat too. K has been complaining that her baby dolls are cold and of course I felt neglectful.

I read through the art museum vest instructions to get an idea of how big a project it is. I’d like to make a matching pair for my boys. How long did it take you all to make one?

Oh so glad you got to sew Meleliza.

After calming a fractious hubby down (he couldn’t find a phone number so I googled) I went to turn my machine on but as yet haven’t actually stitched anything. The plan is to complete the mini quilt top at least today before 2pm. It’s achievable.

The vest took about five hours from start to finish for me and that included interruptions. You could easily have one completed in a morning I would expect.
