Fall Patterns?

Yeah I really have no idea about the “principles” or rules behind all this.
I feel like I want more ease in the bicep area so my arms aren’t pinned down or the whole dress doesn’t ride up if I pick a kid up or raise my arms in any way. I’m not entirely sold on if/how a smaller size can give me more range of motion. After my last tweak I’ve had zero time to try anything else.
I would love to know that science or even math behind all of it. And that, people, is the first time I’ve ever uttered the words math and love in the same sentence!
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5No training here, just suggesting what worked for me 🙂
10 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiEnajybbil, measuring my shoulders has only been a recent discovery for me. I think it works by the fact that if the shoulder point is sitting at the felx point of your shoulder then the shoulder and sleeves of the garment should be designed to give the maximum range of movement. I’m not sure I’m explaining well 🙁
I think weather your my bust measurement works or not is very dependent on your personal shape. Recently I discovered that even when using my high bust measurement, which is significantly smaller than my bust, I was still finding the shoulders were too wide. Although I didn’t realise that was the problem at the time.
I found this post on fitting shoulders, http://sewingnhumming.blogspot.com.au/2011/05/time-for-my-pattern-fitting-secrets.html , and got some help from my husband and discovered that my shoulders are very narrow, like 12.5cm (4.92″) and 13cm (5.1″l. Once I was using the much smaller shoulder width I got a very well fitted pattern. I was very shocked when the much lower sleeve cap was very comfortable and allowed more ease of movement without the rest of the shirt moving!
I hope this has helped somewhat.
10 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaAnyone following Liesl on Pinterest? I suspect we might be getting new pattern teases over there.
10 years ago LINKenajybbil @enajybbilThat’s exactly what I was thinking! The mystery now is stretch or woven? Zipper or Liesl signature magic? It’ll be fun to see!! I really do wish some normal and plus size testers had pictures ready for Thursday too. Seeing the Cinema dress on Sarvi was probably more inspiring than the model shots…to me anyways.
10 years ago LINKcybele727 @cybele727Oh yes! Pinterest is definitely a peek!
10 years ago LINKI wondered if anyone was noticing those pins! Just writing and prepping my blog post to introduce the new pattern.
Testers, are any of you interested in contributing photos to the post? I’d love to use them if you’re willing to share…
10 years ago LINKbrenda1652 @brenda1652One of the internet fabric stores I visit featured a pre-sale this week on the newest O+S kids patterns to be released the end of Oct. I won’t be the person to wreck the surprise for those who did not see this but the pre-sale ad with pics did surprise me.
10 years ago LINKenajybbil @enajybbilWhere?!?!! I’ve been using all of my super stalker skillz and can’t find them!!
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitBrenda I take it that it didn’t spoil the surprise for you? I cannot wait but I won’t be stalking sites – it’ll take all day!
10 years ago LINKFlorabell @FlorabellI have been checking in here to see when the fall kids patterns will release. Is the expectation really the end of Oct.?
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I think it may be Florabell, so excited, I hope there will be something suitable for the baby (as a toddler).
Who am I kidding? Liesl is so clever with how her patterns do that, work from babies to teens.
10 years ago LINKFlorabell @FlorabellI so agree Nicole! Can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve for us. I am trying to calm my anxiousness. For the first time, I am attempting to sew the majority of my 2 year old daughter’s fall wardrobe. Trying to plan and budget carefully, but want to make sure I keep some options open for the new patterns. So hard waiting, I am such a planner! I do have other patterns in the works for the meantime.
10 years ago LINKWe heard from the printer, and the fall patterns are progressing very nicely. They should be ready sooner than the end of the month, but I hesitate to give a date because it’s so hard to predict with shipping, etc. I hope you’ll be pleased! I’m very happy with how they turned out.
10 years ago LINKcybele727 @cybele727Ah but couldn’t the PDF’s be ready earlier? 😉 <with an elfin smile, she ducks before Liesl throws the internets at her>
