This seems unlikely, but it’s the only thing I can think of that might account for that much excess: any chance something went wrong with the placket? The set-in placket option has you removing a strip from one of the shirt front pieces – if memory serves it’s a 1″ strip.
I’ve made the classic shirt in a 10 (with alterations, but not to the…[Read more]

The size 10 collar stand does not fit the neckline, I have triple checked the cutting layout and sewing lines, it appears to be about 2″ short. What am I doing incorrectly? I have viewed the sew along and it appears that I am doing construction correclty. Any suggestion? If I draft a new collar stand that mean I would need to draft a new collar.

Enbee replied to the topic All day shirt pattern in the forum liesl + co: all day shirt 5 years ago
For your first question, I think the cut-on placket is a little easier than the set-in placket, although neither is really difficult. I think the main difference is that the cut-on placket is more formal-looking, and the set-in placket is more casual/matches the option for extra topstitching lines. For the 2nd, although I haven’t made this shirt…[Read more]

I have two questions aboutthe all day shirt.
1) Re the front placket, is the view A cut-on placket easier than the view b set-in placket and why would you want one over the other?
2) my husband just wants a plain collar (not button down and not with pockets for stays. Is there any reason you can’t just make it with just the plain collar?
Thank you. -

Pages 182 and 183 of The Palmer Pletsch Complete Guide to Fitting (2018) addresses this and directs you to add length to front yoke in two places.

Where should the gathered waistline fall on this dress? I am 5’9” and want to make sure the waistline is not too high up on me. I would prefer it be about my belly button. Thanks!

Enbee replied to the topic buttons? in the forum liesl + co: all day shirt 5 years ago
You might try Farmhouse Fabrics – they have a wide button selection, and at least in their MOP buttons have a range of sizes, including the small cuff placket size (I’ve ordered buttons from them for a Classic Shirt). Their search function on the site is not great, so you may have to go digging, but they ship quickly, and they have lovely stuff.…[Read more]

@lrnbckmn, do you have an old shirt in your rag bag that you can salvage the buttons from?
Or you could try an Op-Shop?
Maybe ask around your friends? Many of the mass produced shirts have those little collar buttons as standard. -

Ok, from the look of these photos the armhole seems to be quite small for you, and I think that’s why it’s pulling. Can you drop it a bit or trace a larger size for the arm? I think it wouldn’t hurt to go up a size overall if that’s easier, too. You don’t want this style to be too fitted.

Thank you!!! I do have the Field Trip raglan but haven’t made it yet. I just looked, and it also calls for 25% stretch. And particularly thanks for the neckline tip…my grandchildren also seem to have big heads! I can make this work.

I’ve never used that fabric, but I have made the Field Trip Raglan out of a sweatshirt fleece with virtually no stretch, and that worked fine (I’ve made the school bus tee in a heavier, but stretchy, sweater knit, which also worked with no issues).
I find that the Field Trip raglan has a more generous neckline than the school bus tee, so I might…[Read more]

I’m trying to make some warm jammies, and would like to use the JoAnn Luxe Fleece for the tops. Will the heavier fabric work? Will it stretch enough? The amount of stretch is not listed.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for weighing in, Liesl! I’ll attach the other two photos I took, it feels like they just move, and are kind of where an armscye (spelling??) might be, or where a sleeve would attach for a raglan, which made me wonder if it was just how the kimono-style sleeves worked. It seems like it’s well fitted, I didn’t try to do jumping jacks or…[Read more]

I removed the 1 1/4″ from the wearers right shirt front, and followed the sew along, just can’t get it to work. I’ve taken the seams apart twice to measure.
