Pia started the topic Pattern size – height in the forum liesl + co: yanaka jacket 5 years ago
I just purchased 3 of your patterns and can’t wait to start sewing, the instructions are really thourough and well thought out.
I am sure the info is somewhere to be found, I just have not managed to: Which height are the patterns made for? I am quite tall and allways neeed to adjust, it is only a matter of how much.

Kathy started the topic shortening the sleeves? in the forum liesl + co: chaval coat 5 years ago
Hello,
I’d like to shorten the sleeves approximately 5 inches. I’m not sure where best to do this, as there’s no lengthen/shorten line. Should I divide the 5 inches between two locations on the sleeve? Am I correct in assuming I should shorten in approximately the same place on the under sleeve and upper sleeve?
Thank you!Kathy

Thank Liesl; sorry to be slow to respond. That helps to figure out how much I should lengthen the bodice. It’s a slight problem that the pattern measurements don’t specify what the finished waist length is in each size. I lengthen as a matter of course anyway, but it’s sometimes hard to know how much!

Nirmala D started the topic Confusion about sleeve cuff in the forum liesl + co: classic shirt 5 years ago
I am just not getting it! While I successfully sewed the collar stand, I cannot seem to sew the sleeve cuff and facing together as instructed. I’ve looked at the instructions and the sew-along carefully a couple of times and tried and ripped out. It is the part where we are to re-sew the 1 inch seam that previously attached the interfaced cuff to…[Read more]

Hi Bonnie (@bonlou)
This is not really the place to ask as it’s not a pattern from this company.
A quick internet search for your pattern came up with a YouTube video tutorial. I suggest you try that. -

Sorry about that–the waist is the narrowest part. It gets wider for the hips…

Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! Thank you so much.
I should probably be working on a muslin instead of with the good fabric instead, but you’ve given me a better chance of getting it right first time 🙂 -

Hi Karin,
I am no expert but am working on a muslin of the Saint Germaine. If you look at the printed pattern pieces for the waistband, note which way the lettering and name of the pattern piece goes. This will indicate which side is UP for each piece. And, you are right, it is not intuitive – one does slightly curve up and the other slightly…[Read more] -

The waistband pieces are curved, and the instructions warn to put them rightside up, but I see no markings to tell me which side is up. It doesn’t seem intuitive, since I’m not clear whether the band is intended to sit at or above the waist (I want it at the waist, ideally). The layout suggests one piece should curve up, the other curve down. Kind…[Read more]

I am stumped on step 1 of the directions for the classic shirt! The pattern says to cut a 1 inch planket… but then it goes on to say to baste 1/2 in… then add a 1 inch piece of interfacing to that basting line. I already cut the piece off. If I add the interfacing on at that 1/2 inch mark, fold over, and then stich onto the shirt with a 1/2…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Art Smock Sizing in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 5 years ago
Because the pattern is for a smock that is meant to be very loose fitting and worn over clothes, sizing is much more forgiving. We have made this available only in Small, Medium, and Large sizes instead of in numbered sizing. We recommend using size Small for children between 6 months and 3 years. But to confirm the best sizing for your specific…[Read more]
