You are very welcome Becky.
There are several lovely ladies that sew for others as they have none of their own, here. So you are not alone!
Please, please share your photos in the flickr group.
I personally find if people pop up 2 or 3 pictures I am more likely to click on them then if they pop up half a dozen as they take so long to load with my…[Read more] -

A friend recommended these tables to me- http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19852113/#/S69857764
I have 2. One has my sewing machine and serger on it. the other is right next to it, but raised up to its maximum height (the one with the A-legs because they can be raised up higher) and I use it for cutting/staging my projects.

Hi Everyone! I’m Becky, from Crystal River, FL. I am old enough to have grandchildren, but as I never married or had children, I don’t have any. Never mind, there are lots of people glad to have me sew for their children and grandchildren! My mother used to sew matching outfits for her, me, and my doll, and she’d sew identical outfits for me and…[Read more]

I have! I made one last year for my then eleven year old (she’s now 12). I shortened the sleeves because of our summer heat and used a knit. She wore it around the house and then decided it was so comfy, she used it as her nightie.
I keep meaning to make another one…. -

I recently, like 2 weekends ago, raised up a table on PVC Pipe legs to serve as my cutting table. It is wonderful! I used to cut out and work at the kitchen bench but that really was still too low, my new surface is approximately 20cm (8″) higher (than the kitchen bench/counter). So much more comfortable to work at and more space 🙂

I’d be nervous about glue, too. Nicole’s idea to ease it a bit is a good one. You could maybe try a little fusible interfacing to help stabilize it on the wrong side of the fabric? Also, if you’re able to change the amount of pressure of your presser foot that may help to reduce drag, or if you have a walking foot that would be useful too. If it’s…[Read more]

It doesn’t matter too much if your stay stitching puckers a little. If you increase the stitch length you can ease it after sewing, anyway.
I am so glad you are using stay stitching. It will really add to the professional finish of your garment.
I would be nervous of glue, in case it went hard or got on my iron.
I agree with Sarvi, it is lovely to…[Read more] -

You mean one of the OTHER clever folks!
Well, I think I just found a solution. I tried putting a chunk of tear-away stabilizer under the neck edge. It hid the seam allowance guide on the machine bed, but I had good enough control with the thicker material that I could sew an accurate estimate of the 1/2″ allowance.
But I did also consider that…[Read more] -

One of my more successful storage ideas is a plastic box intended for embroidery floss. It has small compartments that I use for my sewing machine feet. I keep it right behind the sewing machine so they are always handy. I also keep an assortment of different size and type needles in there. I wish all my ideas worked the way I imagined they would.
