I own and have sewn a pair of pants from Simplicity 2771. The facing on the top is very similar to the Oliver + S Sleepover pattern.
This was the pattern that taught me to use the high bust measurement for the top. I made the large size to accommodate my, um, hourglass figure and the shoulder seam comes halfway down my arm :-p

Thanks! its a good point about the safety, i mentioned it to her mom and said its up to her to decide. I have a feeling it may become a day dress if it comes out well 🙂
helpful to know baout the neckline!

Thoughts on cute shapes for preschool aged boys? Things that could be adapted from Oliver+S patterns?
I was thinking of shorts or pants with suspenders? Other ideas? Ways to modify an OS pattern?
My boys (3) are too big for bubbles but I’d like some similarly cutesy things for them before they get too tooo big

What about just making a two-piece outfit and layering a lullaby layette long-sleeved top under a bubble dress?

Here is the finished jumper with the nap running upwards: https://www.flickr.com/photos/128353028@N04/15215509103/in/pool-oliverands
I like the look very much. It’s rather like looking into velvet when the nap is up like this. You’re looking down into the grove of plushies. Used nap down, as you would naturally do, light reflects off the…[Read more]

I really like PT Powerstretch for warm leggings, long underwear etc. It is very comfortable against the skin. It can be seen at Peak Fabric’s online store, but I’m sure there are many sources .

Thanks everyone! I wasn’t thinking about recovery, but that’s a good point!
@Lisel that fabric at mood sounds perfect! I wish I was closer, I like to shop by touch, buying online is so hard.
The nature walk pants sound like a good idea too… and the perfect excuse to buy a new pattern 😛

It would also be very easy to slim down the Art Museum trousers based on a pair of pants that fits well. The Field Trip and Sandbox patterns have wide legs.

Maybe consider buying the small range of the After School pattern, since it is actually a fantastic pants pattern for little boys too? 😉

I like this idea. I was considering Nature Walk pants for Maggie in pink sweatshirt fleece – poly fleece would be even warmer! I think the big thing for leggings is that the fabric needs to be pretty stretchy and have good recovery (snap back) – otherwise you’ll either have difficulty getting them on and moving, or you’ll have baggy knees and butt.

Slightly off topic, but you all seem very knowledgeable on this topic :). What would be your recommendations for making the playtime dress (woven version) in a smaller size than offered? Ultimately we would like to achieve a look similar to the bubble dress (which goes down to a 0-3M, I believe), but need long sleeves, if that helps any.…[Read more]

I haven’t done the playtime leggings in anything other than cotton knit, but I’ve made up the nature walk yoga pants in a ton of different fabrics– stretch denim, jersey, Polartec fleece, cotton sweatshirt fleece. I know that Polartec does make a windproof fleece– I haven’t tried to buy it by the yard, I have some outdoor gear that my in-laws…[Read more]

As long as your fabric has enough stretch it should be fine. Mood had a really interesting fleece the other day that looked like ponte on the face but had that nice soft fleece on the back of it. Something like that would be great, provided it stretches enough. Especially the leg openings, to get over feet.
