I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Does our Liesl + Co Neighborhood Hoodie help?

I would love to be able to make a high neck hoodie, so that the hood closes up higher (like a small collar), using the Lisette for Butterick B6386 sewing pattern. Any advice on how to do that?
I already tried something on a pull-over hoodie and it turned out so badly I had to completely redo the hood and give up the idea. It simply didn’t work…[Read more]

Bought the classic shirt pattern and now it’s time to start 🙂
But before, I’m just curious about the seam finishing. I have recently become a fan of the faux flat felled seam and also read your tutorial on it. In one of your images, you captured a satin stitch foot on the fabric. Did you actually use that when sewing the seam? It might make…[Read more]

Thank you, Liesl.
And I just found the summer shirt and it has the exact fit info I needed for my lightweight cotton. Can’t wait to see, too. My first shirt in decades! -

Yes, the two shirt collars are interchangeable, so that will work just fine! Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

I’m thinking of making the recital shirt – it has a great fit – but I don’t particularly like the collar. So, I was wondering if I can alter the pattern and use the classic shirt pattern collar instead. Would that work? Would it need any special adjustments?
Thanks! -

You could definitely do that. Do you have the Gallery Dress pattern? I imagine it working much like that. Cut the back with extra at the centre back fold line, then create a box pleat with a rectangle about 1&1/2″ deep at the neck line.

Has anyone tried a back pleat on the gelato dress to add more room for underarms and back? I recently saw a tailor do this for Indian style tunics when they want to add more ease without altering the style lines?

Have you checked our sew-along to see if the photos help?

It sounds to me like your machine tension might not be even or the fabric is somehow getting pulled tight as you sew it. If the outer fabric is getting pulled, or if it’s being push along with the presser foot as you sew, that would result in a curling edge. Maybe try reducing the amount of pressure your presser foot is putting on your fabric (if…[Read more]

Hmmm. Are you measuring along the seam line? I’m measuring the armhole vs the binding in the software and all the sizes are exactly the same length as the bias, so I’m not sure why you’re having this problem.

Can you check your pattern pieces again? I’m lining them up perfectly (see attached image), so I’m not understanding how you’re having this problem.

When I sew a girls dress with a woven cotton fabric sometimes the top of the lined bodice curls forward it does not stand up straight. It happened with a dress with a v notch at the top of the bodice. I cut down into the v of notch, trimmed the sides of the v then turned and press well after sewing. I am making a dress with a heart shape at the…[Read more]

Should I just trim the excess so it’s level with the other piece? I’d like to move forward with this project and I don’t know what to do. I was extremely careful with cutting the pattern to size. I am a beginning sewer.
