Hi
I am using size 12 for this blouse and have shortened by 1” equally for all pieces of the pattern. When I match up the notches to check the length of the pieces, I found that there is a difference. I have attached a photo here circling the length difference. May I know what I did wrong? I have checked that I have cut the right size 12 for all pieces. -

Thank you, seems like both methods are valid. I guess I don’t know how to decide. How should a dart rightfully look? If I do the first, then my dart will be more horizontal.

There’s a tutorial on the site! https://oliverands.com/community/blog/2018/08/how-to-raise-or-lower-a-dart.html
I followed this when making a classic shirt, and it went smoothly. I went with the second method, which is shifting the whole dart down, but the tutorial covers both methods.

I want to start by saying how I love your patterns! The breezy blouse is my second garment, after sewing 3 Everyday skirts!
So I found the bust dart to be a little high, and I would like to lower it for my next blouse. My question is should I adjust the entire dart parallel downwards, or pivot the tip only? I hope my question is clear. I tried…[Read more]

Thanks for the input. Some sale fabric in a navy floral may have made its way home with me for a first go at this pattern. I’ll see how that goes and keep anything matching on the back burner for now.

It would be a challenge, sure. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth a go!
Options to make it easier for yourself might include cutting the waist/belt section on the bias (windowpane check) or cross grain (stripe)
That gives you a bit of a visual break between the bodice and the skirt so your pattern matching across those sections doesn’t have to…[Read more] -

I have some blue and white striped rayon and also some windowpane check fabric. Would these work with the pattern? Or would matching be a nightmare?

The Saint-Germain has waist pleats, not waist darts. So you don’t really need to extend anything. If you don’t think that will work for your shape, you could try rotating the fullness of the pleat into a side bust dart. I added a dart for mine since I have a large bust.

My bust is 2” higher than standard RTW clothing and sewing patterns. (I know that gravity and age will eventually rid me of this issue, but in the meantime, I look like I have an udder if I wear unaltered tops and dresses.) I’ve learned how to raise bust darts upward on patterns, but I don’t know how to best accomplish this on the Saint Germa…[Read more]

Thanks for the quick response, Todd. I am not so quick!
Yep: lots of negative ease, and a snug fit – perfect for yoga pants!
My confusion was the pictures – they all look so loose! I realize that the sketch is intended to be only representational. But what about the photos? I noticed that one of the reviewers had used a size 5 – which matched…[Read more] - Load More
