  • The two pieces of interfacing are for the crotch snap placket on the bodysuit only, not for the neck placket. I haven’t looked at the errata to see if/how the directions were edited to fix the confusion, but that’s what it’s intended for – those snaps see a lot more wear & tear due to diaper changes, crawling, etc and need to be reinforced.

    Hope…[Read more]

  • Thanks to everyone who replied. Looks like I’m going to bite the bullet and use a zipper. Meleliza, since the dress is going to have an organdy overlay, I’m leaning toward taking your advice and use a hand picked zipper. Keep your fingers crossed!

How does that notcher work, I wonder. But I’d use it. I hate notch cutting.

Nice glass head pins. If you’ve ever melted the plastic heads on your fabric when ironing, you quickly learn the value of glass head.

I once bought Dritz glass head pins with white heads. I was using them in a class and was told never to buy them because they were…[Read more]

I did not know such a thing existed … and I now desperately want one!

  • I forgot to say to remove the basting after, but I’m sure you knew that. I was just thinking more about this, and I think with a smooth ribbon, this might possibly cause it to pucker some. I’ll have to try it to see, and of course it may depend on the ribbon. But it ought to work very well with lace or or flat piping or firm trims. Okay, just…[Read more]

  • I was considering this very problem yesterday, and I have an idea, though I haven’t tried it yet. For the dress I’m making, I sew the bodice down last by topstitching it over the seam that attaches the lining to the skirt. I used to do the reverse, but in this pattern I’m good enough that I get very good topstitching on the lining side, too. Okay,…[Read more]

Today’s sewing consisted of sewing three Layette shirts in assembly line fashion. I currently have them in the hand sewing basket waiting for their neckbindings to be handstitched down.

I also managed to handsew the lining of the Cape Ann bubble and have also sewn the buttonholes. This is also in the handsewing basket waiting for buttons to go…[Read more]

  • Perhaps into the dress but have it hidden inside the lining?
    Sorry , on my phone

  • The croquet as an a-line is quite quick to make. My daughter loves hers.

  • That does help. But when you say you go through the lining, do you mean you also go through both layers? So small stitch into sash, long stitch in both layers of dress?

  • Does anyone else have the Village Frock pattern they would be willing to sell? Thanks,Linda

  • Will these help?

  • I know what I do but I am not sure what it is called….

I stitch a small stitch into the sash ( 2mm) and that goes to a longer running stitch in the dress lining (1 cm), pulling so it is firm but does not pucker.

I will see if I can find a picture for you.

Really nice shears, needles, and pins, maybe a really nice thread for hand sewing delicate items? I’d be interested in something nice that I can’t get at JoAnn — not a consumable staple but something upgraded.

Yes a buttonhole chisel. I’ve always wanted one of those. Good quality pins that are sharp and won’t snag fabric. Sewing sheers! Liesl if you do decide to carry them, could you allow for us lefties please? It is very difficult find good left handed sewing scissors (sheers). Duckbill scissors would be great too.
