Has anyone thought about or tried making this pattern reversible? The skirt is fully lined, so it seems like it would be pretty easy. The buttonholes for the drawstring casing would be on both the lining and the skirt so the drawstring could be drawn out either side.
For the top, would you just have to add another ruffle and sandwich them both…[Read more] -

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoThanks, Sarvi and Cat! Courtney, the skirt is designed to sit at your natural waist, but it’s really a matter of your preference. Just like if you tried things on at a store, you get to decide how you want to wear your clothing. If you prefer it to sit a little lower, that’s up to you. Mine sits at my belly button or slightly lower, yes.

And we squeezed in the lazy days skirt! In the cutest/nerdiest chess embellished fabric ever!!! You can see it here on our blog. How’s it going for you? Have any skirts sewn? Have any skirts left to sew?

I LOVE both tops and if this month were not so insanely busy I’d have ordered and made them already. I absolutely love the Maritime top, it’s one of my favorite styles and I have a few that all have something sligh…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoHey all, I asked Todd to create this group so we’d have a place to easily discuss sewing for ourselves. So first question: feedback on the new Liesl + Co patterns? Are these styles you want to sew for yourself?

The Kaffe Fassett shot cottons make lovely play shirts. They only need the lightest of ironing once made up.

If you are finding it hard to get a nice turn, try basting a turning guide with a long stitch (#4). This will no only give you an accurate fold line but will gently ease the fabric.
If it is not enough ease, you can gather the stitches, just a bee’s whisker. -

I’ve sewn with both Kaffe Fassett and Art Gallery cottons and they are both lovely!

That blue is gorgeous!
If any of your local shops carry Art Gallery cottons, they are beautiful too and so nice to work with. They are made with Pima cotton and have worked well with all the garments I have made from them.

I sew primarily with quilting fabrics because that is what I have. There are also more quilt shops than fabric shops near me. Usually I have to be careful choosing fabric for garments because quilting cottons are sometimes too stiff or coarse. Last week, though, I was in my local quilt shop and came upon one with a beautiful hand and drape. It is…[Read more]
