I have not made this gorgeous dress with the sleeves but I will try and help. My apologies if I am not much use.
When the sleeves are cut, you should have two, mirrored, if you placed your pattern on the fabric, double layered, right sides together.
The notches would be invaluable here so that you can determine front and back.
If it was me, I…[Read more]

When fitting jeans, I sew the crotch seam first and then fit the side seams. I was given the tip from a clothing designer, it works really well.
I would wonder if the inseam may need a little pinched out. They are great shorts. I made Hugo (17) five pairs with an added fly and he wore them until last summer and now the Twins (15) wear them. I…[Read more]

I didn’t Janice, but my girls have very curvy derrières.
I would make the size that corresponds to her hips and then taper the leg (inner and outseam) -

Awww, thank you Sandi and Sharon.
I ~finished~ Zara’s (15) skort, hurrah!
So excited about this as I stupidly drafted the pattern to her tiny waist (size 6) instead of her hips (size 10)!With some careful unpicking and removing some darts I j u s t got enough ease to make it work.
If I had had enough of the lovely grey linen I think I would…[Read more]

Oh yes! Congrats Heidi on your win!
I bought some fabric to make the parachute pants and top for the baby today, along with something to make the playtime dress/ tunic with. I went looking for wool fabric to make the bistro dress for Imogen out of (it says lightweight wool right?) but of course I had no such luck!
I had a late start and of…[Read more]

Goodness, your conditions sound very similar to our area @sahmcolarado with our average rain about the same as yours (maybe a tad more). We usually have our “winter break” in May but 11mm isn’t a winter break at all! Now I know where all the rain has been falling.
And as it happens, on my second no sew day, the coastal town where I shop…[Read more]

Well you’re not meant to cut off the extra, but five inches of extra?! That would threats to hang below the hem of the skirt!

Sarvi replied to the topic Invisible zipper in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 10 years ago
I never knew you were supposed to cut off the extra! Why? So it doesn’t feel lumpy?

Sew Alongs 10 years agoHeidi I think that would make the problem worse in this case, sounds like too little collar rather than too little neckline. I made the 5 in two very different fabrics (a stable interlock and a soft, floppy wool knit) and the firmer fabric was fine, the softer one had a ton of excess neckline. I put in a big box pleat at the back neck. It’s really…[Read more]

That is worth thinking about! Of course I don’t have any navy rugby knit in stock but might try it out with something else.

@sahmcolarado would you like to swap weather? I hear it is very wet over your way and here, when it should be wet (and I should be the one making rain ponchos) it is dry as anything (we have our fingers crossed for a big rain expected Wednesday). The rain poncho pdf sounds painful to put together. But I do hope it works out.
I also have to say…[Read more]
