Frances Suzanne started the topic Using Tucks in O+S Patterns in the forum Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years ago
Hi all! We’ve got an upcoming post over on the O+S blog about using the “heirloom technique” of tucks in Oliver and S Patterns. Not the ones that already have them….like the Family Reunion or Music Class…but thinking out of the box a bit more. Anyway, we’ve selected 2 O+S patterns to incorporate tucks within. QUESTION: Which patterns would you…[Read more]

My stepmom got me a CostCo gift card for Christmas. This might sound like a weird gift, but actually, I loved it. There certain things I’m weirdly stingy about, like Swiffers and Magic Erasers. I now have a lifetime supply of those. I did sneak in a few non-practical items, like an ENORMOUS bag of shelled pistachios. As I discovered the last time…[Read more]

There was a quarter piece pie left over and I was looking forward to eat that tonight, but Isabel claimed it so I was stuck with cheesy broccoli quinoa and balsamic glazed chicken which I had had for lunch today and yesterday and there is still a serving left! (I made a huge batch over the weekend.)

I made a salmon, leeks and fennel pie for us last night. It was really good and my eldest would have eaten it whole if I had let her. The little one was not very impressed.
I used smoked salmon in thin slices, some sautéed leeks and thinly sliced fennel.
The only negative thing was that I had forgotten the salt in the pie crust. Need to remember…[Read more] -

I believe it is broken down into 2 size ranges – 1-4 and 5-8. Here’s a link for the size 5-8 that I searched on google. I KNOW the back of the pattern has sizes 1-8 listed, so I think it is legit!

Oh no, the Hilary pattern only goes up to size 4! I was so in love with the cap sleeves and the single button back. And the bride loved it too! 🙁

Yes, I will definitely consider that! I could do some pleating or pintucks on a solid voile for the bodice, but not on the embroidery. It’s just logistically unsuited to anything other than using it as is, or piecing it in long strips like they did in Sew Beautiful.
But yes, I’m definitely thinking of the front V now. Thanks!

On seeing the bride’s dress, would you consider doing a flutter-sleeve Library Dress with the front in a v? you could even finely pleat the fabric like the bride’s bodice if you have the patience, or do the dense-on-the-sides, less-in-the-middle flowers on the waist… like cut them out of the voile and re-embroider them overlapping on the band.

Not for Easter, but I have been planning Beatrix’s outfit for her 11 month photo.
I have taken a portrait of each of my babies at 11 months of age, wearing a smocked outfit.
Beatrix was lucky enough to receive two smocked dresses from her honorary Nana in Canada and the little white dress will be perfect for the photo.
11 months is such a lovely…[Read more] -

Good for you Meleliza! Actually, I have the Edwardian daygown I made for a Royal Agricultural show a few years ago handy should it be that time runs away from me. It’s actually longer than I thought it would be but so very very pretty.
But I really want to make Mignonette before she starts walking and running away from me! And then I can put it…[Read more]

Giggle! That’s the Aussie humour coming out! Both Susan and Gail are very talented and lovely people. Nothing worse than a cranky embroidery instructor – they definitely fall in the “happy” group.

I Like both of those. I have a children’s corner one that is just like the Anna Maria, except it has smocking. I really love Hillary with all those sleeve options. I will really need to find some less expensive similar fabric to mock up various sleeves. I’m finding it difficult to visualize how I want the fabric to behave.
