Hi Sarvi, I’ve made this top twice now in knit and done some kind of FBA each time. But I add 1 1/4″, not 3/4″. I did a traditional FBA, but because of the drape of the knit, the dart ended up under my bust.
That didn’t answer your question. I think it depends on how stretchy your knit is. It’s a fun sew, reminds me of the sailboat top.

Has anybody made this? I usually make an 8 plus 3/4 in FBA in the woven patterns. Could I get away with a straight 8 in a knit?

Thankyou Sarvi for uploading the link. I could actually work it successfully that time instead of through google search like I did before.
I can hear the “aaah’s” now! Looking forward to seeing all the pickstitching that will follow.

Ellen, you are hilarious! I find it scary that I am sewing for a baby who once was a 0-3 months, who wears a 3-6 month size. But is fast becoming big enough to wear a 6-12 month size! Its just an awful shame they have to grow so fast!
I have finished the Carousel dress btw. And it looks pretty good for a pink dress with smocking that was not…[Read more]

Ellen, just think how easy it will be to ease things — sleeves, hems — with all those long seams. A nice break from hemming size 0-3m sleeves with tweezers 🙂
I am prancy with excitement over the Gallery tunic and am working on the FBA while watching an interesting documentary by Ric Burns (who knew there were two of them!) about NY.

Is that what that stitching is? Our accountant had a smart new suit on and I noticed it.

Oh, ok. Well, a pick stitch is basically a backstitch that has lots of space between each stitch–it travels on the back side so you have long floats. (If that sounds like I’m speaking Martian, sorry.) I’ll definitely do a tutorial soon.
The vest looks great! Happy graduation!

Oh, I’d love to teach you how to do this and I’ve always meant to do a tutorial for it! Let me see if we can find time to do it in the next couple of weeks, ok? Or is that too late? I think I recall an article in Threads magazine years ago about it if you need it sooner. They were pick stitching a back zipper on a dress and adding beads to the…[Read more]

Happy Birthday to dear sweet baby Olivia!
Today, I plan to keep going on the pink things. It is quite chilly here at the moment so I will pull out that last piece of pink fur and see if I can’t make a warm hat for Chloe from it. Sewing will be cut short today though due to collecting the kids from school and a much needed run to town.
But there…[Read more]
