@roundtheworldgirl It is so great that you get to do this so soon. My eldest was not a dolly girl and I am hoping very much that the baby will be. I learned to sew by making clothes for my dolls so I am looking forward to.

I have finished the main sewing of Noah’s shirt. I used the Jalie men’s shirt pattern for this and some cloud 9 fabric that…[Read more]

Up to size 2T, yes. After that I found it perfect.

    Great clothes Fiona!

my sewing has just taken a turn I didn’t think it would for another year or so. My girls decided they wanted American Girl dolls for Christmas. This weekend I tried my hand at making some party dresses for them. I found a jumper pattern online that used to be sold by the company. It is very similar to the O+S Music Box…[Read more]

  • @Cathbe, the best way to determine whether you need the twill tape (which I would actually recommend even if you don’t “need” it) is to check the stretch from selvedge to selvedge. If it stretches or if the fabric is quite heady you’ll almost certainly want it. I hope that helps!

  • @needlewoman I made the raven hoodie for Imogen in pink faux fur. I actually sized it up and it fit her for a good two years. She had outgrown the sizing but was still in the Oliver and s ranges. I found it so easy to put together and if truth be known, I think those patterns run a big bigger than oliver and s. I made the finch shorts also but…[Read more]

You are marvellous Fiona! All these things for the children are just lovely. I had to pop onto the forum just to see thumbnails because we are currently experiencing a lag in internet speed, so the emailed pictures you sent haven’t loaded enough.

All of them are wonderful! Lucky kids and parents I say!

I haven’t sewn alot this week. I have been…[Read more]

@ock-du-spock the layette pattern is fabulous! My daughter practically lived in the bodysuits when she was tiny – being a summer babe and all.

I am currently drafting off a McCall’s shirt pattern for Murray’s shirt. His chest measurement didn’t go near the Jalie sizes.

  • Hello, @filur! Here’s a post that I think will help to answer your questions. Note, especially, #2.

15 tips for fitting a muslin

Holler if you have any further questions about it, ok?

  • @lightningmcstitch is correct. This is one pattern that needs to fit well in the girth. Get the smaller size.

    (And make a muslin bodice)

I would do as you suggest but sew one side of your collar to the jacket ( the under collar) and the upper collar to your facing/lining.

    Then sew those together

  • Ah, that makes me so happy, @mychurchdoll! I’m headed to Paris in a few weeks–maybe I’ll get to wear mine, too! It’s been too warm here to wear it so far. Can’t wait to see photos, everyone! xo

And @sanitystitches, I completely understand the fear of heat with wool. I’ve found that the wool setting on the iron is absolutely perfect, and if you…[Read more]

I am attempting to write this message as the baby is woofing down her zucchini slice and ripping off her bib in one synchronised movement (almost). Has anyone had any luck with keep the messy kid bib on a child of ten months? She seems to think it is not required yet gets a rash from the moisture that comes with eating.

I have finished the city…[Read more]

@sarvi Yes, they take very little fabric. I had a couple of “diaper cuts” (slightly larger than fat quarters) of girly knit fabric lying around from when I was sewing cloth diapers for my girls years ago and I got two larger pairs out of one cut, and four of the smaller size out of the second cut!

I should think it would be a great way to use the bits up. Especially for little bottoms. I have heaps of scraps so the undies idea could be a way…. Christmas stocking stuffers😜.

I am almost done with the Garden party dress. This is the second one I’ve made and the instructions were so straight forward I’ve hardly needed them this time around.
