Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoI have this little dress I have been itching to make from Australian Smocking and Embroidery (issue number will come to mind shortly I hope) called Mignonette. It involves smocking, insertion lace and embroidery down the centre of a t shaped panel. Whether I will get to it for Easter or not is one thing as it falls early this year. But the aim is…[Read more]

Cooking and Baking 11 years agoMy favourite was to cook a steak to medium rare and whist it was resting, make a green salad with baby spinach and sliced mushrooms and then slice the steak in strips and stir through the salad dressing with a mango puree (sometimes a little sweet chilli).
Lucky girl to have a doting mum.

Ha! Who knew there was still some of it out there! It’s a nice quality, so I can see why a shirtmaker would like it.
Are you going to tackle the two-piece sleeve placket? It does look nice if you have the patience to fiddle with it.

I really enjoyed your description @brenda1652. Our stock is far more at risk of dehydration and bush fires.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Facing against grain in the forum oliver + s: sleepover 11 years ago
In general, it’s fine to cut across the grain. The cross grain and length grain (weft and warp) are ALMOST interchangeable in many instances. Cross grain with have more stretch, and length grain is usually stronger and may drape a little better. But if you’re working with cotton and kids clothes, there really won’t be too much of a difference. Just FYI.

After reading my own post, I would just baste and neaten the dress and lining together and then add the yoke, as per usual.
