T, and Heidi, your denim projects sound very interesting – looking forward to seeing the results. I’m more than half way thru my first Carousel dress, although, I have cut out another. The WIP is size 5 in raspberry wide wale corduroy with a striped cotton for the pockets, cuffs, and for the binding. I’ve just finished binding the hem which always…[Read more]

That’s really interesting to know, Sarvi – you are very inventive with fabric combinations.

Lucky you, Heidi!! 11 hours-that’s quite a marathon. Hope you had plenty of cuppas to keep you going. I know the Cotton and Steel fabric you mentioned and it should make some lovely stuff. Just finished 3 quilts myself in the last week. All were half completed, and it had become embarrassing that I hadn’t delivered them so a week’s hard work, and…[Read more]

@rebecca Hi Rebecca, if you are still looking for a paper version of the Sailboat pattern, I would like to offer you mine – free of charge. I have been ‘offline’ for a couple of weeks, and I asked dubhels to make this offer on my behalf. She did so but there was no reply from you. Perhaps you have been able to find the pattern, elsewhere. My…[Read more]

Hi Nancy, congratulations! Lots of wonderful sewing adventures ahead. I have made two coat/pants outfits from pinwale corduroy using the Layette pattern (only sad that it wasn’t “invented” when some of my ‘clients’ were younger). The pinwale is perfect for babies – you’ll remember from your own mothering days that babies wear nappies, singlets,…[Read more]

  • Ditto Shelley; Good luck Sandra spreading the O + S good news; the patterns are splendid, and this forum is extremely friendly, supportive, and provides practical help for sewists of every level.

Sarvi, I wanted to say a big thank you for the link you provided to Jones and Vandermeer. As T said, they have sell some great prints, and I was especially pleased to see their notions’ section. Very keen to try some purses – well, sort of- and J and V sell the frames you need to attach the fabric, and close the purse.

    Suggestions like these are…[Read more]

  • I’ll be looking forward to seeing those shorts, Janice. Really useful discussion about girl pants, ladies. Unfortunately, I have almost no scope for these with my “kids”; apart from babies – ie up to 3 yrs, Australian girls seem to have taken ‘the pledge’ re. shorts and trousers. Very frustrating.

T, that poor baby is going to need the sound of a sewing machine recorded so she can develop good sleep patterns.Lol. Are all these outfits you’ve detailed in the last zillion posts, ALL for Chloe?

Finished yet another Popover – size 4 lengthened – in autumn colours, and nearly finished a size 5 Hopscotch Skirt with a frill to lengthen it. (Do…[Read more]

  • Dear Audrey, thank you for your kind comments about my Badminton Skirt; there’s a new pic in Flickr of one of my bunnies wearing her new Hopscotch. I wasn’t participating in your Sew a long; just serendipity.

Dearest T, thank you!! No, I seriously doubt I’ll be asked to sew – too much distance between Adelaide and Sydney for it to be practical – besides the fact that sheer fabrics are my bete noir. I shall content myself with cross stitching a magnificent wedding sampler (probably with rabbits hidden in it somewhere – don’t ask), and maybe making a…[Read more]

Big news for my family!!! My eldest niece, Nicola (Nikki) rang me this am to tell me that she is engaged to James (who I met last December). Wedding likely to be early next year – shockingly hot and humid in Sydney, NSW at that time – depending on one of her two sisters’ travel plans. This is the first wedding for our family since Nikki’s parents…[Read more]

  • Thank you very much NCMimi; I made the Playtime that way mainly because I was concerned about Missy tolerating the lowered sleeve seams, especially in a thicker fabric. I did understand what you were saying about littlies getting into the armholes, and occasionally with more fitted tops like the Sailor top, I have lengthened the armholes…[Read more]
