Well, I should officially be the poster child for not sewing while sick.
After looking at the pattern pieces, I decided to cut size 5 with 6 length, since she always outgrows length first.
Yeah, I wasnt payong attention and thought I cut the waistband, and instead trimmed off my added length. Size 5 it is! Lol.
And now I cant fet the…[Read more]

Yeah that’s what I am thinking.
I should say, the 4s have been short for awhile…..but it was summer and didnt matter lol. She is mostly all legs.
After consulting the finished measurements with her measurements, I think I should go with a 6, but double check the cuff as you said. Her outseam is running 24inches, where size 5 is 25.25…[Read more]

Someone tell me it will be ok and go back to my book!
I have 2 pairs of sleepover patterns on the cutting table. I want to use some out of print fabric, so I want Maria to be able to wear them a few years. I think technically she is in between size 4 and 5, but I can’t decide if I should make a size 6, and adjust the elastic as needed? Or…[Read more]

Fantastic!
And I love your Rhymes with Shawl sweater! (I”m still in a bit of denial about DD’s….it got ruined at school and I need to rip out my yarn and snip out the pieces where the marker didn’t come out 🙁 )

Any special techniques I should know about making buttonholes for uniquely shaped buttons? I am planning to make bedtime pjs for this fall with these moon shaped pearly type buttons.

Jess M. replied to the topic Coverstitch Machine? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
You can do all that on a regular machine—for the most part. It does look a bit different though. I have never been happy with the way mine looked using my machines (and I highly suspect it’s my machines themselves….they are old and I’m due for an upgrade). I didn’t want to spend money on a high end serger w/ both options until I knew I…[Read more]

So I am lusting after a coverstitch machine. (In case its different in Aus, I mean the twin needle hems you see on RTW tshirts) I already have a serger so it doesn’t necessarily need serging features.
I am eyeballing the Janome 1000cpx due to price, reviews etc, but wondered if there are others I should be open to?

Ok, I probably shouldn’t be sewing if this is confusing me: I’ve sewn the placket to the front. I’ve trimmed down the center. So now I”m at the part where I’m folding the placket to the wrong side of the garment. Should I have cut along the entire stitched length, or only to where the angled part you trim off after cutting hits the center…[Read more]

Gah, so I’m finally getting around to making one of these, I have the digital pattern. I think putting a little note about where these go would go a long way to clearing it up! (I”m making view b, so I was confused! LOL) Because technically, they both have “Snap plackets”….or at least, that’s what I was thinking….because you still use…[Read more]

Does anyone have suggestions for irons? I had a Rowenta for the last 4.5 years and for the last, really, 1.5+ years it’s been leaking. The last week it has gotten worse—so much so, I am worried it would become a fire hazard.
So, I’m in the market for a new iron. I’d love a tiny, cordless one, but I’m open to ideas/pricing!

Also wanted to add: This board doesn’t tend to have that annoying “repeat” phenomenon you see on realllyyyy big ones, where people ask the SAME question over and over again every minute of the day. LOL. We are an easy going (and helpful) bunch ’round these parts.
