If you are sewing two sets anyway…why not do a sleepover set in flannel, a pair of flannel shorts, and a field trip interlock top that all coordinate? Over the holidays my kids spend a lot of the early evening and mornings playing in their pajamas. My kids tend to sleep in tshirts but then put their warm flannel sleepover set over when they…[Read more]

Oh…so many ideas! You ladies don’t disappoint…. It is so fun to dream of all the dresses I “could” make. The girl has decided on spots….black with white spots to be specific. She wants a “twirly skirt”….of course in this case I really want to make the Hide and Seek.

Because it is always fun to hear all of your ideas….
My daughter wants a black and white recital dress…any fabric/pattern ideas to keep it interesting? We don’t have a dress code. Our “recitals” aren’t formal. Basically, our tiny music school takes over the baby grand at a local nursing home after dinner every few months and plays for the…[Read more]

Oh, Sarvi! I love that idea (and…a new website browse).
Heidi, good point! I have that one and plan to use it. I never have great luck with knits holding up as well as wovens, but will absolutely make a few.
Thanks!

I’m more a fan of versatile basics than prints (with the exception of liberty of course). HOWEVER, my boy starts kindergarten this fall and dress code dictates that he must wear a collared shirt each day. I thought to make things a little more kid friendly I’d buy a few cute prints for shirts for the school wardrobe. So…what are your favorite…[Read more]

Not sketchbook….but the back darts on the art museum work really well on my girl for school shorts and she’s got a round derrière. I also just add patch pockets.

Oh my! I can only imagine all that you must be feeling right now! There are no good words for something so scary as you all must be navigating. But, know your family is in my thoughts now. I am rooting for you all.

They are low but it is more pronounced on the smaller sizes. It is easy to lay the pattern pieces over each other and omit the pockets of you wanted to.
The pattern is great, though! Enjoy!

Grrr….put buttonholes on the wrong side of an art museum vest! AFTER already making a second set of fronts because I wasn’t happy with my welts the first time around!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I ended up spending some time looking at ones online and just drawing my own to get the specs right. (I was starting to feel like Goldilocks trying to find a pattern!)
It isn’t perfect, but good enough for a five year old boy in constant motion! And, he liked it and sat still for me to learn to tie it!

Thanks Nicole! How funny that that is the liberty print I’m using for his tie in a different color to go with a very similar striped vest!

Anyone have a rec for a boys bow tie tutorial or pattern they would recommend? I don’t want a clip on…one that you tie. And it can be small…my five year old is about 35lbs.
Something like this….

I just made this skirt. Not sure about the pants, but the skirt was pretty straight forward.

It would be too late for this one…it is for preschool graduation. But, I’m planning another in a flax linen for a wedding mid-June and would LOVE to know how before then! YES PLEASE!!
I ended up under-stitching everywhere I could reach on this one, and I think it is going to work out fine. Now to pick buttons and a shorts pattern. I’m on…[Read more]

I’m working on a vest and have decided that edge stitching with my machine gives a more casual vibe than I’m going for. However, it annoys me greatly when the lining rolls out on the edge. So, I thought about pick stitching like on men’s suits. Does anyone know of any tutorials or done this before? Is it just a running stitch?

Yep, High Springs. We make it to Manatee Springs several times a year. Do you ever hit up that quilt shop in Trenton?
