Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of driving soon. I’m told that it’s the right turns that are trickiest, my friends who made the switch kept hitting the curb at first.
I’ve been having a lot of fun trying to sew as much as I can from my stash while I save up a bit for a trip to a friend’s wedding. Lodging in NY is just so expensive! And a chef…[Read more]

I’ve finished up the first of four gifts, and the next two should be pretty quick sews. I’m doing a lot of swatching for the fourth since I want to incorporate a few different small details I’ve been really liking. It’s funny how far from the original a given idea can evolve over time (and Pinterest). Right now I’m working on a certain style of…[Read more]

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoMy new chooks are laying a dozen a day so I am making a lot of quiche type things. I fry up onions, garlic and chilli as a base and today added chicken breast, bacon and mushrooms. When that was crispy I poured over a dozen eggs beaten with 1/2 cup milk and a little SR flour blended in. Sprinkled with cheese and put the pan in the oven.
Served…[Read more]

I have an old treadle in my sitting room, I keep a block of wood under the foot pedal to stop the babies pinching their fingers. 🙂

Nicole replied to the topic Underlining? in the forum oliver + s: secret agent 10 years ago
Wow, that is a lot of work but looks amazing! I am sure that would work.
I am not a fan of binding seams (I love the look just find it a bit tedious) I would wonder about flannel for the main and something silky for the sleeves?
But I am sure the underlining would work really well.

I lined a Secret Agent trench very successfully and it had a lot more wear then the unlined versions.
I touch on it in this post http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/elsas-turn-again-lining-unlined-blazer.html
It is not a ‘proper’ method, but it worked well and the jacket has been handed down and still getting a lot of…[Read more] -

Lurve that Knight Hoodie, Hugo wants one!
I look forward to your reveal Shelley.
I finished up the knit Music Class blouse and Lunch Box culottes for Liddy, for a sneaky school uniform. She is very pleased and gave the culottes two thumbs up.
Next up, Hugo’s turn as the Twins doubled up last time. The Thread Theory Pea Coat in charcoal…[Read more]

Hi Renee, pleased to ‘meet’ you!
🙂I completely agree about the lack of stylish little girls clothing in the RTW market. I am have a blast dressing my littlest two girls (the older ones are nice too but the little ones still wear whatever I like).
I also agree that the patterns are failsafe, which is so nice when we are all far too busy to…[Read more]

I’m always ogling the great double sided knits. Solid on one side and stripes on the other. I like the idea of making hoodies for the kids, so the inner hood, pocket welts etc can be the reverse side.
I’ve just bought an amazing Italian double faced wool that will be a cape for my mum. The reverse side will be visible where it falls open a bit at…[Read more] -

In my experience of growing children (n=2) they don’t get wider from the age you’re talking about, just taller.
If you want the dress to fit nicely on her birthday then make the smaller size with maybe an extra inch of skirt length.
But, the slightly bigger size will undoubtedly look beautiful. I’m sure we’re not talking sack size, right.
