Todd Gibson replied to the topic anyone want to hold a sample sale? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
Thanks, everyone, for your interest.
After some discussion today, here’s what we think needs to be done. There are so many samples, almost all are size 3, and most people in the forums aren’t interested in purchasing since they sew for themselves. We think we need to broaden the potential customer base for a sample sale by listing the items on…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Elastic how long for size 7? in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 10 years ago
@miss_Sonja if you look at any pattern you should find body waist measurements for size 7. General rule of thumb is to cut the elastic one inch shorter than the waist measurement. Depends a lot on your elastic and your kid…
For my just turned 7 son who is quite lean I would cut about 22″. I think this is about 1.5″ less than the standard size 7…[Read more] -
Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Drawstring pants? in the forum oliver + s: after-school 10 years ago
The Sandbox Pants have a drawstring like you’re describing, Emily. Maybe look at those instructions and convert them to the After School? It would certainly be do-able, and the elastic makes it possible to pull the pants on and off without untying…

Nicole replied to the topic Can I use woven bias fabric to bind edge of knit? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
Do you mean an envelope style neck? Where the back comes over the front at the shoulders and opens up to allow dressing?
You can use a woven binding but remember, that it will not be that stretchy so you will need to make sure it will fit over babies head, just with the envelope style opening.
I hope that is some help.

I agree with Robin. The on the right would work for piping, also, or anything where you need to sew very close to something that’s not flat.

Liesl Gibson started the topic anyone want to hold a sample sale? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
Hello everyone! I have a crazy question and I’m just going to put it out there in case anyone want to take me up on it:
We have a large number of samples left over from pattern development and photo shoots, and I need to clear out some space in the studio. Over the years we’ve talked about holding a sample sale, but our workload is always so big…[Read more]

Hi Harmony — can you try posting a link to a pic of the feet? I tried to see if there was a broken link in your post that I could fix for you, but all I’m seeing right now is the plain text of your post.

I haven’t seen it in a stripe at all that I can recall. Since the pieces are narrow at the top and wider at the bottom you will end up cutting your stripes on an angle. If you are then able to match them together you will effectively get chevrons at each seam.
I’d play with some miniaturised pattern pieces and striped paper first to see if you…[Read more] -

I am with @lightningmcstitch on this one. I made my baby girl some wool jersey Hopscotch nighties in the smallest size. Can you imagine how tiny those front yokes were?
I found a good steamy press made them behave long enough to stitch.

Nicole replied to the topic Needle for woven and knit together? in the forum oliver + s: parachute polo + sweatpants 10 years ago
#teamballpointneedle here, I am very particular with needle choice and always use ballpoint needles for knits.
I do agree though, a nice sharp universal for attaching the woven collar would be best.Any blunt needle will cause problems, some you may not be aware of until you wash your garment. I hate those little ‘pull’ marks that can…[Read more]

Nicole replied to the topic How to achieve this look for Garden Party dress? in the forum oliver + s: garden party 10 years ago
I think your fabric choice will be your deciding factor here. If you use a soft draping fabric, the fullness will be lovely.
