@reeni, so cute! Your daughter looks excited, while your son looks a little less thrilled to leave summer behind. I’m totally on his side.
Wow, you can buy regulation fabric to do your own uniform sewing? That’s neat!

Ooh, I’ll go look, @cybele727! I posted my Instagram photo by copying the link on my laptop and pasting it into the text. Magic! But I’m not sure how to do it on my phone or iPad…

Who’s got back-to-school photos to share? I wanna see! Here is S wearing her Music Class Blouse this morning on her first day of 6th grade:
Gah, how did she grow up so quickly! Next year I’m sure I won’t be allowed to take a First Day photo.

From a technical standpoint, all of these methods would work. But I’d advise against the method shown in the last link (Sew Liberated), which could really throw off everything about the trousers. Better to raise the center-back rise!

Thank you, @dubhels2003. Just to illustrate the difference, if you purchase my first book on Amazon I make 55 cents. If you purchase it directly from us I make $8.50. So it does help A LOT when you purchase directly from us.
Glad you’re excited, @sasha! Oh, and yes. It will be available for sale directly from us, and much sooner than Amazon…[Read more]

Ooh, @sasha, how soon do you need to start the dresses? If you can hold out for two more weeks I think my new book might be very helpful to you…

Frances Suzanne replied to the topic Micro smocking? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
Great idea, Sarvi!! It probably would have been a little easier to add width prior to cutting, giving you some “wiggle room” / options with design concept. One suggestion – go with more than 1 strand of silk thread. At least 2, if not 3 DMC or floche . . .so that your work will be seen. @motherof5 Thoughts?? Have you tried to smock this area of…[Read more]

@mama_knowles I look forward to seeing what you make and how you construct it.
@gailanncreates that’s a fantastic idea, I’m going to try it out, thank you!

@frances-suzanne or other smocksperts (smocking experts!) — I have cut a Music Class blouse and am wondering if I could do a TINY bit of smocking, almost like a very small dot or diamond, in place of the pintucks. I have cut my blouse from a pale grey-on-grey fabric and thought a tiny pop of color would be pretty. I wish I’d thought of it before…[Read more]

I could’ve sworn I’ve seen this, perhaps not for the Everyday Skirt, but I can’t recall where. If I remember, I’ll pop up a link for you. How about using this:
I think if you wanted it to be from fabric, you could add a seam allowance (maybe 1/4″) cut two…[Read more]

@mama_knowles, I hope you’re feeling better! When can you sew again? I can finally start exercising in three more days! (Although I might cheat a little bit and start early…) It’s no fun to be laid up, I know. Hang in there!

Ha! In New York, you can always tell it’s the end of the month because all the bad furniture has been left on the curb for pickup. You can find some treasures, but there’s always a risk of bedbugs, which have become a real problem.
We don’t start school in Spain until September 8, either. Suddenly, summer isn’t moving quite so quickly as it…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Coverstitch Machine? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
@purplevann1 if you really only want to hem t-shirts then my suggestion is to get familiar with a twin needle and woolly nylon. It will be almost free compared to coverstitch, dead easy to change thread colour and saves having to store another machine.
Or buy yourself something shiny 🙂 - Load More
