@karen Thank you! I will have a look at that fox dress. Off into town today to see what I can find, ready made or fabric.
Regarding the Badminton Skort, I have always found it quite true to size. Mine is up on my blog now although I still haven’t had time to photograph it on her.

Try it Kim. Just baste it so it’s easy to rip out.

Sadly I can’t see it being quite that easy. If the fit through the shoulders and upper chest is good then yes, you can take in side seams.
However, any changes involving or above the sleeve area would get messy.
Centre front or back seams that go full length would be easier places to play with removing width.
Sorry not to be more help. Sometimes…[Read more]

  • This may sound heretical, but I often sew with whatever is in the machine and don’t notice any difference.
When I bought my overlocker it came with Universal needles and I queried the salesman as I thought they should be jersey or ball point needles. His reply was that nothing is “sharp” anymore with the exception of denim needles…
    In case I’m…[Read more]

  • Hi Rebecca, I sew with merino jersey quite a lot and find it behaves quite well with steam ironing. Better behaved than cotton Lycra in my hands.
    Steam press it into submission!

  • I would underline using something like cotton voile or even a single cotton gauze. Just thick enough to stop your seam allowances being visible.
Then line in a lightweight cotton, or maybe bemsilk lining.
Cut the skirt as one piece so you only have the centre back seam and then you could get away with not underlining the skirt, but I’d do it…[Read more]

I am just finished with the scallops on the Badminton skort. I made up a pair of the shorts on their own with a ‘slash and spread’ adjustment and have just checked the fit, which is wonderful! So I can safely cut out another pair to go under the skirt and complete my skort.

L’s nursery have just sprung a Fox costume request on me for next…[Read more]

I have started sewing up my first Badminton top today and am having that feeling of giddy excitement that comes with making up an O+S pattern for the first time! Isn’t it a pretty top?!
Glad to see others are in the process of using the pattern too. I spend the better part of yesterday morning tracing off everything in a size 10, so am intending…[Read more]

  • Without wanting to cause offence to Chestnut (last thing you need is to have to take him to counselling!) is he a portly bear?
The only place I could imagine you’d need to alter would be the waist if he/she was very rotund.
Otherwise it’s just a matter of scaling up or down if you think Chestnut is much bigger/smaller than the average doll.
    I…[Read more]

@dubhels2003 Helena, my three older kids all had the chicken pox about 16 months ago; my son was only a year old at the time. He had a very mild case – and in general I have heard that the younger ones do better. He was just a little cranky, ran a fever for a day or two, and didn’t seem to be bothered by the actual pox very much. My…[Read more]

  • Ok quick update! I did mash up the puppet show and tea party play suit and I’m posting a picture of the results! I’m pretty pleased, except that the fabric I chose is pretty awful. But that’s what I get for trying to shop my stash. I guess I’ll just have to make some more. Also, I think I’m going to hand embroider some sail boats on the front. Is…[Read more]

Me too. All the wrong size but now I want to make a pink finewale cord Apple Picking dress!

  • Sophie’s got 4 pairs in heavy rotation right now. She’s got a long rise so I added an inch to the back. I did shorten them by 3-4 inches, but went by hip size.
