Well, this is number 6 for me and I am due in September. 🙂
I was thinking the Empire line would work over a belly, I may add a little more to the centre panel and gather it in.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as a dress, it just may end up quite full, a long tunic would be lovely and the stripes would be very flattering.
As for underlining, you…[Read more] -

Robin,
Remaining joyful in the present of the sewing is so (sew) important. I am in a race with no one. I like goals/resolutions because they give me ideas of where to go, but don’t feel bad about never achieving them. They are more like ideals and ideas than carved in stone moments. Although, right now I got some pretty darn good princess…[Read more] -

That dress (the cap-sleeve version) looks very much like my wedding dress! Which I bought on eBay, ha. I love that tip about the flannel sheet on the cutting mat – I am so doing that in the future.
Janice, I think you could absolutely do it if you and she decide that is what you want. How exciting! -

I still say go for it! Use wedding dress shopping as a final decision maker for style only even though they are likely to be hawks going for prey. I would avoid it if you are definitely decided. I heard someone (famous) paid some astronomical amount of dollars for their whole wedding – pity they weren’t anthropological enough to share! Sorry for…[Read more]

Tough decision, J. I’d echo all of the above re. the relationship issues- both positive and negative, and about whether it’s important to you. On the seriously plus side, as your daughter is small and slim, it will take much less fabric, and Vogue patterns are very stylish (in my opinion, especially for simple, A line frocks). I love the idea of a…[Read more]

My best suggestion is that your pintucks are too small – they need to all be exactly 1/4″ (go on, ask me how I know – my one attempt at this dress is still waiting for some serious unpicking….)

Nope, no notches on mine either. Since the facing piece should extend half an inch past the folded edge, if it would be helpful, you can mark a notch half an inch from the edge as shown in the illustration. Would you like a photo showing how to do that to help you get back on track, since the issue wasn’t with folding, tracing, marking, or…[Read more]

I too would say check the button placket fold. Also if you have enough fabric, or if you have muslin, recut the facing in the correct size and one size up. See if either fits and cut that in your fabric????
