@sarvi it is awesome. Jed calibrated it yesterday and we are having a cool snap so it is perfect baking weather.
I need a new kettle now, my old one looks very grungy on the hob.

Great ideas @ann-maree.
How frustrating @rhythmtyagi, it may soften yet or you could try giving it a scrub with a nailbrush and some yellow soap. That may help remove the dressing.

I made these for my baby girl https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/17417326175/in/album-72157649752898567/ ( not O+S, blush) and I pointed the Chevrons downwards even though they were across the grain on the fabric.
I made my older daughter a coat from the same cloth ( I purchased a bolt) and I did the same. Both garments are wearing well with…[Read more]

@AmyF how very kind of you.
If she is only 8 I am wondering of she is only really after width? I have sewn for a obese child and her I found that was he case for her. I think what I would do is too split the front dress panel in half and add a few inches to the that.
I would add the same to the front bands and add quite a bit to the waist one…[Read more]

😃 @jwo until you’ve tried to intubate a rabbit, you know nothing of difficult airways!
I’d find all of that fascinating! -

Mash-up challenge:
“Reveal date”: 2/5/16?
Flickr tag: “oliverandsmashup” ?Any other rules/parameters?
Although we want something new, should we go back and tag old stuff, like my jumprope with library sleeves, because so many of us have mashed up without thinking of it that way?
Once we set them up, I will start a new thread!

I’ve hosted a few NYC shopping trips in my time. Would love to do it again someday if there’s enough interest!

Sew Alongs 10 years agoSorry to hear that that seaming went so slowly, @sanitystitches. I pressed mine and then sort of fiddled with the fabric as I sewed, so I didn’t need to baste. But different fabrics may respond differently, too. And your finished coat looks terrific!
@artscience, definitely shorten and the shorten line. Anything else will give you a different…[Read more]

@cybele727, @lightningmcstitch? Any suggestions as to type of challenge and start/ finish date? It’s pretty busy here at the moment but I should be able to squeeze in some time for another challenge between now and February (in amongst harvest, Christmas, first birthday and school prep). But then I would imagine you guys in the northern hemisphere…[Read more]

Pattern mash-up sounds quite challenging. I know that when I did the jumprope and had to mash up Library dress sleeves with the jumprope sleeve head I was quite satisfied when it turned out loverly.
I do know that that type of work takes more time, and we are approaching the holiday hectic season… at least here in the states, you have…[Read more]

@mmollett here’s a link to a blog post right here on Oliver + S where I’ve shown how to do a placket just like that one.
http://oliverands.com/community/blog/2015/02/hide-and-seekcinema-dress-front-placket-tutorial.html I used the Hide and Seek dress, but you could do it to almost any dress. The playtime is probably the closest to your inspiration…[Read more] -

Oh yes! That would be an idea.

Do you especially want to include a placket, either for looks or ease of dressing? Because otherwise that looks not unlike a Class Picnic top (possibly available on clearance!) with a bit of elastic gathering at the wrist end of the sleeve.

Oh! Of course — my reading comprehension is not so hot before my morning coffee kicks in! 6″ should be plenty and nana can always trim if needed.

Hi @mmollett what a lovely dress! I can see why you are so inspired by it.
Do you own the Lullaby layette pattern at all? And more importantly is the little one you are sewing for wearing a size 24months or smaller? I can see a happy and very close adaptation of the linked dress using the top of this pattern and that is why I asked.
The sleeves…[Read more]
