    Love the snow!

Thank you too to all the people who have posted on the forum and in the flickr group. What I see and read here, both in response to my questions and to other peoples enquiries keeps me motivated and inspired.

    Happy Christmas!

  • Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. The baby unexpectedly sleep better last night so I just carried on sewing without doing any adjustments and it worked. The seem is slightly bulky but ok. I’m going to use some scraps to try the techniques above to make sure I understand all the great advice and to learn learn learn!

  • Hello, I’m wanting to sew a narrow piece of cotton lace across the pocket. My initial thought was to sew it on top of where the top stitching will be, or to baste the pocket and sew on the lace at the same time as sewing that line of top stitching.

I really want to do french seams for this dress, and I am worried that adding the lace where I…[Read more]

Sounds like the same mistake I made McStitch!

I’m sewing the jacket up in chambray lined with a sherpa fleece similar to this http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/3724-Michael-Miller-Organic-Sherpa

I have to say I’ve already made a mistake on it once (too tired, sewed the arms shut…) and it was impossible to unpick, however it looks as though it will be gorgeously toasty.

    I love…[Read more]

I have that new look pattern in my ‘to make for me’ pile, I’d not even noticed the elements of similarity to the school photo! I might have to modify it too…

  • If it is a plain linen and you are in sunny climes, I think the seashore. I love the icecream for a quickish sew, but you would need more than one fabric for this. An icecream sundress in linen would be gorgeous, please make it!

I really hope you manage to get the mark out of the bubble dress, I’ve been loving your little wardrobe appearing on flickr!

I’ve finally managed to squeeze in a little bit of sewing while the baby’s in bed. I’ve started a layette outfit and I’m part way through both the blouse and the jacket. I am never working with faux shearling again,…[Read more]

I don’t think there is one planned, but I would gladly be corrected!

  • dubhels2003 replied to the topic Great British Sewing Bee in the forum off topic 9 years ago

Not about the sewing bee, but it is about British TV so I thought I’d add it here. This year is the second year that there have been 3 episodes of the programme ‘Liberty of London’. While a lot of it is about sales and being a modern profitable business, the first series followed the print designers a bit in one episode which was really…[Read more]

  • I had a strange thing with flickr in that when I looked at the oliver and s flickr group at home then I could see my pictures, but if I looked on my Mum’s computer at her house I couldn’t. Turned out that this was because I was logged into flickr on my machine, and not on my Mum’s, and I had a funny setting on accessing the pictures, maybe…[Read more]

Thank you so much for all the ideas! I’m going to get an adjustable floor to table lamp this afternoon, all being well, and I’m going to order one of those LED machine strip lamps as well. I didn’t think the light was that bad in the room, but I took a picture today. OK, so it’s an overcast Autumn into Winter kind of a day, but…[Read more]

Sorry to come back to this one again, my room is decorated and my loaned table and chair arrive tomorrow… I have LOVED putting some fabric into my cupboard today!

Anyways, what do you do about lighting? I think I want to get either a natural daylight lamp or natural daylight bulb in a lamp on my table. I envision it being for generally…[Read more]

  • Lawn for the shirt, chambray and some faux shearling for the jacket (nightmare to sew with I think!) and some dotty medium weight cotton/linen blend fir the trews.

I’m feeding pretty much every 1.5 hours round the clock, it WILL settle down! I’m doing very little bits of sewing when possible, hopefully sewing room will be finished next week so I…[Read more]
