What are you sewing now?

Lightning, that’s just how it is! I feel like I’ve been punched in the nose and the pain just shoots up behind the eyes and into my skull, exhausting! But I’ve got antibiotics now and they should start to kick in in a few days. Unfortunately, I won’t make it to thanksgiving feeling like this. Does anyone else with school aged kids get sick? The timing makes it clear that it’s school related.
Tamara, the months start going fast for me in September! After back to school, my middle one has a late September birthday, baby girl has a late October birthday, with Halloween right on its heels. for us, Halloween, is one of the high holidays of childhood. Then Thanksgiving in November before we can even start to think of Christmas. And just when you think there’s a post Christmas break, my oldest has a birthday in January! Phew. Now, not all of these are sewing related, but it seems like this year I’m sewing for everything but Thanksgiving.
I hope you plan to share the quilt when you’re done. I’m getting awfully curious to see it. I don’t have the patience for it right now, though I do plan a dolly quilt for baby girl for Christmas. That’s just an afternoon, really.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitYes I will show off the quilts once they are done. I attempted to get to the town with the quilt shop today but as luck would have it, after getting upset over the escalation of bullying incidences at school with my kids again and calming down by having a cuppa with a friend (who works at the bank and her daughter is in my son’s class), I attempted to travel that 150km journey only to discover the car didn’t want to go on a long journey today. So not having the best of days today and will reflect on regroup through housework I think. And try again using hubby’s car tomorrow. And we will eat Stone soup for dinner.
I had ordered the thread from a shop over east that has a teflon mat thing to help the quilt slide easier but I haven’t had any confirmation that it has actually been sent – and I asked them to send it by express. I just really want to get started and going on them before setting them aside, forgetting about them and being in a total panick at the last minute.
On the flip side though, my other fabric parcel turned up this morning so it will happily distract me from the woes of the morning and hopefully will cheer me up to the extent of not worrying incessantly about the situation and feeling angry towards others.
Probably not a good sewing day today anyway, we are having a thunder storm, surprised it isn’t a total harvest ban actually.
11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiHaving a “stay at home all day and sew” after a draining week. Have cut out and pinned the first real Harry potter robe, and cut half a second one. I realised I’m going to have to half finish them all as I want to get Gryffindor badges and I can’t order them for a few weeks. But it’s sooo nice to be sewing again.
I like the Stone soup for dinner Justsewit!
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitHehe! It was better than living on love for dinner – we’d starve! Mind you I had to scrap two plates of it out for the chooks because both kids didn’t “like” it.
My quilting project has been halted. Instead I have a sick child and the other one home “just in case”. There is apparently a bug at school that has landed kids in hospital – no way do I want that! So no quilting even though the thread as turned up from the quilting shop I was goin to visit in person. The other package hasn’t and I am getting tetchy!
Instead I am rearranging the fabric stash to accommodate everything and moving magazines and books into another area to make more room. It was the plan to do this but because of not one but two trips to town I have effectively lost half a day. I am hoping both kids are well to go back to school tomorrow so I can too can have a “stay at home all day and sew”day – that sounds like the best thing to end a draining week.
Can’t wait to see those HP robes Heidi!
11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love Heidi“Stay home and sew” has been great. I’ve got the first robe as far as I can and I’m ironing for the second. I’ll need a trip to spotlight tomorrow to get more stuff to make the other sized robe patterns. The one I’ve made looks sooo good in the red and black.
Hope the kids get better/stay well.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitSo far no attack of the projectiles which is great but I now have two peaky children and even though miss 10 practically jumped off to bed, I may still keep them home tomorrow just to be sure they are absolutely fine. My kids have a habit of calling me from slumber in situations like this so it all depends on how they get through the night – they are armed with containers just in case.
I had to halt progress on the rearrangemet too as hubby took he electric screwdriver out the paddock. So once again I had to rely on him to provide the tools – I think I might put that on my wishlist for christmas.
So tomorrow whether kids are home or not I shall endeavour to find the cupboard floor and clean it all up. There is nothing worse than things spilling out of a cupboard that is supposed to house everything. Oh I got extra coat hangers and discovered that the plastic coated wire hangers, even though they will only support one print of fabric, will create more room to fit more hangers in. The trouser hangers took up flexile space because of the wooden clamp parts are quite thick. I will still use them though as I have run out of the ones I have reverted to. This room will look heaps better when I’m done and maybe I will be able to start the quilting process next week when children are hopefully at school feeling much better.
11 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5A vintage pattern shorts&shirt set for Hugo and a swimsuit for Zara and the camp sewing is finished.
Yippee!
Next up a Portfolio tunic for me and then the shark costume for Lidia.
I am not making anymore plans until that lot is sorted.

11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiA second Harry potter robe as finished as I can at the moment. Only 5 to go!
11 years ago LINKrastis @rastisis there a magic sewing fairy? i could do with one right now… i have the longest sewing list to get done before christmas, but i’m on struggle street with motivation at the moment… oh please magic sewing fairy… could you come and help me with my christmas sewing?
11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI have just cut out grey sandbox pants for HP costumes.
I think I would like to see the sewing fairy too rastis (although I think she’s been here since yesterday), as my I’d like to sew this for Christmas list is rather long. I’ve had to be rather strict with myself and only the most important are getting done.
11 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchCan Christmas Elves assemble garments if they’re cut out and the pattern instructions left handily close by?
I’ve also got so many things I’d like to get done by Christmas. At least the Puppet Theatre is finished. But I’m planning a Messenger Bag, a couple of shirts, and then the all consuming cradle quilt. Yet I just want to sew pretty dresses! Too many ideas.
11 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI am with LightningMcStitch! I have so much to sew but want to make pretty dresses, oh and a skirt!! With three older boys I can’t tell you what fun it is to make pretty dress. 🙂
I also have a little suit planned for Prince Caspian too. I am only a little bit shy away from this because I will be useing the dress jacket my hubby wore on our honeymoon from years ago to make it so I am not sure if I have enough fabric for this. I know the pants for sure but I was also wanting to make a jacket as well. A vest for sure though in the wine color as Sweet pea’s dress. Maybe a vest for all the boys. We’ll see on what their thoughts are on htis first. 😉
11 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviHere’s hoping the fairies and elves visit all of us who need a little boost! Can’t wait to see smiling Prince C in his new suit.
11 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitThe fairies and elves will either die from shock from the mess I have created in my sewing area or pitch on and clean it up for me – which would be ideal and they can do the “office” side whilst they are at it.
That is the “sewing” I am still doing at the moment. I would also much rather be sorting out patterns and fabric (which I can now see clearly) and cutting and sewing. I still have the crate of cut out things sitting there waiting their turn and not two but THREE quilts to get out of the way (no the elves didn’t help make another it was the UFO from four years ago).
Once the room is in order again I am hiding in there and doing my own Santa’s workshop impersonation, solo of course!
One sad thing to note, I was going to put “more fabric” on my wish list for Christmas – no room to put it! So have to do some serious sewing to make room for it to happen. Has anyone found a way to stop time yet?
All your plans and ideas sound so fantastic!
Tamara
