What are you sewing now?

I have finished and posted pictures of my Secret Agent Coat. Now planning the next one in size 7 (tossing up between blue or charcoal). Currently finishing a Medium size Explorere vest from the left over camel fabric from the coat.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitTwo half made afterschool pants for the boy, another half made teal pair for the girl and a fully finished fur coat! Which hopefully she will choose to wear on Friday for free dress day at school (with other things of course)
12 years ago LINKkatybellabug @katybellabugI’ve just started a Family Reunion dress for my eldest. It is her birthday next week and she has been bugging me for ages to make her a purple flowery dress. She is such a diva at times, it is funny!
The weather forecast in my part of the UK is 2 weeks of rain in 2 days and true to form it started raining at 9pm and hasn’t stopped since. So thoughts are easily drifting to autumn/winter wardrobes even though it is still the middle of summer. Am i thinking ahead too early, or is it wise to be planning already?!!
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5As long as you size up,no problem at all!
Although, this dress is quite roomy so a wee bit of length is all you may need.

12 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_Knowleskatybellabug, I have been thinking about starting the fall clothes for my little girl too. She more than enough summer clothes. I plan on making the next size up in clothes so they will fit all fall and winter long. That way when the cold weather comes we will be ready to go. 🙂 I did already start making fall/winter clothes for the baby.
12 years ago LINKjuliamom2009 @juliamom2009I’m with you guys…I’m just starting organizing my fall sewing ideas and patterns. I’m finishing up a swingset top fashioned into a dress, maybe will whip together some puppet show shorts this weekend, but after that, I’m thinking corduroy, flannel, wool…
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5We are pretty lucky with our weather, apart from swim suits and heavy coats, our weather is so changeable most clothes work all year ’round. Its all about layers.

12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI have some check flannel I got from Spotlight. I want to make some farm shirts for the kids – possibly using the sketchbooks shirt pattern for both. They need to come and help sort ewes out this holidays and hopefully N can hold a lamb (his dream apparently).
I’m deciding on what to make N – He turns the big 7 this week coming. Was going to get cracking on the long awaited quilt but the pattern has grown legs and walked so it is down to plan b which maybe should’ve been plan A in the first place.
Next is a trench for miss nearly 10. I have some pink/grey/black tartan (wouldn’t call it check) and am tossing up whether to use this for a trench or just keep it for bottoms. She needs something for her short jaunt in the city! I have got hot pink drill as an alternative.
In terms of planning for the next season, I am so dragging my feet! But instead of worring I will just get on with finishing the cut out stuff and listen to you all for inspiration on what to do next.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiJustsewit I think the tartan trench would look great, but a plain drill might go with more things. If the tartan matches the drill I have seen trenches with tartan accents/lining. Here’s an example http://www.vogueshopsonline.com/burberry-check-brim-kids-trench-coat-dark-blue-p-883.html
I am also making another trench is blue drill with orange polar fleece lining. It’s cold here now and I felt it would be more use with the fleece lining as we wear jumpers (sweaters) almost all year. I am also finishing up a modified badminton skirt for playgroup dress ups and have removed the pockets from a pink dressing gown to replace them with purple ones AND and thinking of making a fabric tray/box to fill with goodies for a friends birthday this afternoon. Maybe I should finish some of my project before I add anymore!!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitTell you what, in order to decide whether it really goes, I’m going to sit the two fabrics on the table and walk past over the weekend to really decide. I looked at the price of the jacket you link – oh Lord! they charge that much??? And it was on special??? I am so thankful to have a pattern and fabric in order to make my own!
I do love it though. It is a fab idea yet my tartan has a light pink and the drill is hot pink so … like I said they will have to “sit together” for a few days just so I can really decide.
I have visions in my head of a preppie look with a tartan 2 + 2 and that furry concoction I made earlier. If I decide on piping the hot pink with the tartan then I shall have plenty to do such a thing.
Time for Lemsip I think the head is feeling a bit thick or is that because I just cleaned the sewing room?? Shall locate the camera and take a picture of the two together and put it in for a vote I think!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiThe price on that jacket (and others by the same people) is exorbitant. I came across it while looking for inspiration for the secret agent trench to use the fabrics I had. I also appreciated the pattern so much more and the joy I can get out of sewing it.
12 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchI remember seeing an srticle in The Age recently about what people will spend on their fashionable youngsters. The article mentioned a Burberry trench coat and I remember thinking that with the Oliver + S pattern, some Spotlight drill and some knock off Burberry tartan lining from the local vietnamese rag shops I could make one for a tenth of the price!
I’ve been busy with a heap of non-Oliver + S stuff. Pants for the boy and then last night I cracked my first japanese sewing pattern (thanks to L. Poel for the push) and make a little wool cloche type hat for A. It’s divine, but of course being a 17 month old madam she simply WILL NOT have it on her head!
Back to my fav plain english patterns next with a Music Class Blouse and a Jump Rope Dress already cut out and waiting….
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitThe fabric is still sitting there but the more I look, the more I like it.
Today though I finished the teal pair of afterschool pants for miss nearly 10 and the second navy pair for N which is to replace the other pair that were just too small for him. They will hopefully be in one of the birthday parcels along with the matching sketchbook shirt (once the buttons are finally applied).
Before the kids head off on their holiday with the grandparents I have a score of t-shirts, a few afterschool tops, a Raven jacket and another pair of afterschool pants for N to finish along with a list of other things that include the trench that hasn’t even been cut out yet.
Bottom line is they need to have clothes and by the looks of too many pyjama days, they once again lack – I need to stop being busy doing other things!
I am hoping to get the majority of the already cut out things done and dusted by the end of the weekend and then while they are away I can work at my leisure – I am imagining 5 hours of sewing bliss for four nights running – heaven! Surely this will give ample time to catch up?!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitCan’t believe it took four hours to make two hopscotch tops ( I started at about 3am this morning) and the rest of the day and I still haven’t finished the four pairs of Sleepove Pyjamas!
Good day’s worth of sewing though!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI have cut 2 more explorer vests (2 med). I am aiming to make 8 (4 med and 4 sm) before I go on holidays. I have 3 done already (2 med, 1 sm). I also have a badminton skirt modified into a dress up to finish for playgroup. Only made biscuits (cookies) today, hopefully I’ll get something done during the week!
Hope you are enjoying and getting your sewing time, jestsewit!
