What are you sewing now?

Sounds like everyone has been quite busy with projects! I have 2 Hopscotch tops cut out that I’m hoping to finish today. But it’s a gloomy, rainy day and I’m finding it hard to get my butt into the sewing room…
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitIt is the day before full dress rehearsal for the school production and I have finally finished the last minute costume – a busy week of running around but I’m done and am ready to get into some “normal” sewing.
It hasn’t really been cold here so I am thankful that I haven’t been given the opportunity to panic about winter clothing. The woman delivering the weather the other night claimed our town would reach 40 degrees – a good excuse to yell at the telly I can tell you – not likely in this part of the world in MAY! If anyone knows where the rain has gone could you please point it in our direction? We would really like some moisture from the sky – the tank is getting a bit low and rain is perfect sewing weather amongst other needs.
Next I would like to sew something for ME! But I am usually last on the list so I have to get in line. Pants, shirts etc haven’t really decided but I do still have to complete the four pairs of sleepover pj’s I have sitting on the cutting table. Maybe I should start with them?
12 years ago LINKthejennigirl @thejennigirlHaven’t popped in here in awhile, but (at home) I have cut out 2 hopscotch nightgowns, size 12 sleepover pjs (short sleeves & shorts) and a matching pair of size 3t sleepover jammies. The sleepover jammies & one nightgown are out of 1.50 a yard mystery fabric from the bargain bin because the kidlets all outgrew their summer jammies from last year and refuse to sleep naked (go figure) 😛
Also have a feliz in the works, with several various vintage trims (Thanks April for 2 of them!), some hand dyed pintucked & lace appliqued cotton, and a few other various fun fabrics. Never a dull moment with my sewing machines!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitLove trims and lace – they sound divine!
I’m still cutting out pants – afterschool in all the corduroy I have in size 8 and 12 for both kids. Then I’m onto tops and have discovered how many pieces of fabric in my stash I can use up with the selected colour palette of the season. I am yet to decide what will turn into what top though. First pants!
12 years ago LINKmle bb @mle bbI have two family reunion dresses in the works (Lucy actually picked out the fabric for the one I am giving her on her 3rd birthday!). I also have a grand new plan to make my cousin’s 7 little ones each a pair of pajama pants using the bedtime story pattern, each in a different color and with glow and the dark ink added in the mix. I am beyond giddy at this prospect!!!!! Who knows when it will get done but they shall all have some shnazzy pj pants that glow in the dark to boot!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOne finished pair of navy corduroy afterschool pants with striped pockets for Noah to where with his striped shirt once I locate buttons – the packet of blue buttons Imogen ran off with had not one matching button so with a shopping trip today I intend to get lots. The odd ones will be donated to the Preprimary committee for their guess the number of buttons competition at the local Market day. Not worried as I have basically been told that whoever donates the most gets the jar so I may have many buttons to swap with others soon.
Next in line are the four pairs of afterschool pants I’ve cut for Imogen in various colours. Then it is Noah’s turn again – I have two boxes marked and filled with cut out patterns and I plan to take turns between the two.
12 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchI’ve gone a bit nuts of late…. I’ve been pretending that drafting patterns and cutting things out doesn’t count as sewing (and as far as freeing up the dining table goes that’s correct), but then one pattern leads to another idea. The Monk Sailor dress was made from leftovers of leftovers after cutting out a top for my nephew (not yet made), I’ve got a Music Class shirt ready to sew, and two Musix Box jumpers; a simple view A as a trial run before cutting my Children At Play border print (yep, another one of those in the making) and the current project is a Music Box view B.
I’ve worked on that one today as a sick kid kept me home from work, yet she obligingly slept a fair bit and left me alone! Except for the vomit I don’t mind that kind of sickness!
The Music Box Jumper is now complicated by corded piping, a fully lined skirt and novelty bug flaps! Sounds horrendous but I think it’s going to work really well…..
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitWith winter announcing its arrival (finally) last week, I have had to scramble to get myself going with lots of clothes for my two kiddos who just can’t seem to stay the same measurements for two seconds these days.
I’ve only been cutting out but so far in the boxes are, hopscotch shirts with puffed/ ruched sleeves (because miss 9 HAS to have them – apparently), afterschool pants four just need elastic and one has to have the full treatment, two Raven jackets for each kid, Ottobre tshirts for the boy and more afterschool pants in a size 10 because you guessed it, he’s grown! Plus those pj’s that really need to be finished and buttonholes to be done on the blue shirt.
I am still yet to cut out skirts, shirts, explorer vests and those lovely trenches I keep thinking about – they are next but won’t happen today.
I’ll be busy setting to work and sewing the cut out things this week so that the kids have something warm that fits and then I can start the whole routine again. That is provided the weather is kind enough to not give us continual power surges as such we have already been experiencing – lots of fun cutting out using a torch!
12 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI have have doing lots of cutting but not so much sewing. I have two 2+2 tops cut out for 2 months now just sitting and waiting on me. Now I have two vintage bubbles for the baby cut out and waiting on the iron table for me but after I finish the last of my pin conshions. Now I am wanting to also try the neat girly sketchbook shorts and the altered 2+2 top as well. More ideas than sewing time for me!
12 years ago LINKthejennigirl @thejennigirlStill sewing on the 2 sets of summer time sleep over pjs, the 2 hopscotch nightgowns, the feliz (where ever did I put both of my rolled hem feet???), plus 2 vintage vogue dresses for me (one is a brocade 1954 wiggle dress, yum!). Silly me decided to buy the fabric and now I’m cutting out 2 vintage butterick numbers as well. And then, late last night, I bit the bullet & ordered the Apple Picking dress, Badminton, & Croquet dress patterns.
(We’ll not mention the 2 pairs of summer weight uniform pants adorning the arm of my couch that need hemmed)
I keep telling myself, that one day, I will be 100% caught up. HA!
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiJust finishing a camel coloured Secret agent trench 18-24m (all done except the buttons). I have two more explorer vests that need their buttons/press studs (snaps). I will probably cut out 1-2 more explorer vest from the left over camel fabric.
12 years ago LINKJennifer1568 @Jennifer1568Will you post a photo of the coat? What type of camel fabric did you use?
12 years ago LINKJennifer1568 @Jennifer1568I just finished the cutest bubble dress without the bubble. I made it from sheer floral chiffon and lined it with colored Batiste cotton. It is a size 7; I enlarged the pattern. It is kind of short; that is the reason I eliminated the bubble. I am going to make the pattern again and lengthen it 3 inches. I am really bad about taking photos; I hate my camera and have no patience for downloading. I am going to try to get a picture of this dress, though.
12 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiHi Jennifer,
I will post a picture of the coat when I’m finished, it looks fantastic. I think it is a cotton (it wrinkles) not quite heavy enough to be a drill (twill?) but not a thin cotton. It was another one of my op-shop (thrift store) finds so I can’t give specifics. Your bubble dress sounds lovely, espically that you have enlarged the pattern.
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitAfter a somewhat tumultuous week with another to follow, I feel like hiding in the sewing area and not come out! I managed a few hours of sewing yesterday but this was to make up for almost a fortnight of none! I have almost finished a non Oliver and s jacket pattern with plans for three more – one in fancy faux fur. I am itching to get on with those after school pants I cut out some two weeks ago as the boy has pants that are ripped beyond repair and is in desperate need for something.
I’m slowly working my way through the two boxes of cut out things already.
Went and bought some special fabric for a trench coat today so hopefully next weekend I will be ready to cut this and the tan corduroy one out.
