What are you sewing now?

Janimal your projects sound amazing!
It’s school holidays and in between working and well doing the usual on holidays, I haven’t even thought about the still outstanding costumes I have to finish.
Just been far too busy to pay attention to that so maybe the weekend will prove that I can finish two costumes and pack up a sewing room at the same time? Too many people in the shearing shed for me to help out so that would be the perfect excuse!
I keep forgetting Ikea’s 1300 number is eastern standard time to order my new room contents.
Only a vest and figuring out how to make a permanent turban to go – no sweat!
Maybe then I too can have the trench coat pattern in hand ready to sew.
12 years ago LINKjanimal @janimalThe Marina dress is just about finished. I don’t mind telling you that making the front buttoned tabs made me swear. I watched a show last night and realized the “junior beat” styled after Marina just has a very simple dress. I made this more complicated than it needed to be! Ah well. Delilah likes the dress and if we can get a photograph with her and Marina after the show Friday night, it will be awesome. (there is a party and meet n greet after the show for parents willing to be extorted for the opportunity) I’ll post pics next week.
12 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesJaniamal I can’t wait to see the fnished dress!! I was thinking about my toddler one but haven’t got around to it yet. I was going to make it after the “new” Marina dress, useing the jump rope dress pattern. I love the front style of the dress. Insted of buttons I am wanting to put a zipper in it but we’ll see. What pattern did you use?
12 years ago LINKjanimal @janimalI used a very simple basic dress pattern. A peasant dress – there is a free pattern on http://www.fabric.com and the dress is just quick and easy to sew, which is what I needed. I did consider using the jumprope dress pattern too, but went with a much simpler design instead. The peasant dress just slips on, no closures. I made it in all solid turquoise (kona cotton) and made the belt in purple. Then I bought purple piping to make tabs for the front and sewed buttonholes on them and sewed buttons to the dress to button the tabs on. Just 2 tabs though. Tonight I am going to see if I can make a “buckle” for the belt using felt. I was going to put button tabs on the sleeves also, but I may not have the time.
She’ll be wearing it tomorrow nightfor the show. I just bought tickets for when they come back in August, so hey, she’ll get to wear her dress again! I promise to have pics this weekend.
12 years ago LINKjanimal @janimalOK – Fresh Beat Band Marina dress was finished and worn to the party. Marina came out on stage, and the first person she waved at was my Delilah. She put her hands on her heart and smiled and waved at her. So awesome. And Marina played a little peekaboo with my shy girl to get her to smile at the after party. Totally awesome. You can see the dress here:

Next up, the trenchcoat. Just ordered some japanese fabric by Olympus in a pretty lavendar color for Delilah’s, and some Echino for Shane’s. Can’t wait for it to arrive to get started.
12 years ago LINKI’m gearing up for KCWC next week. I’ve got two picnic tops and an ice cream top cut out, and I’m almost done tracing the Badminton top and skort.
12 years ago LINKkatybellabug @katybellabugI have purchased my first Oliver + S patterns and am ready to go! I bought the PDF versions of Puppet Show and Sailboat. The Puppet Show Tunic is going to be my first attempt. I am using a solid soft pink cotton and some flowery accent fabric. All the pattern pieces are printed, stuck together and cut out. I am making the size 5 for my eldest. Very excited and apprehensive at my ability to pull this off but am determined to do a good job with my first foray into the Oliver + S pattern world!
12 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh no! KCWC is next week?! Once again it will have to be missed oh well. Hope you get heaps of sewing done Round the world girl.
Katybellabug can’t wait to see the end results of your initation garments.
My patterns turned up today – YAY! That’s the upside. The downside is that my sewing area is about to be dismantled and packed up in preparation for the revamp so the patterns will have to wait until possibly next weekend.
On the other upside though, NJ really likes the idea of a blue trench coat while IG (in her 9 year old attitude complete with a hair flick!)) prefers a croquet dress in pink with red ribbon (interesting I know) probably corduroy or drill as the weather is getting cooler.
12 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesIt will be a while before I am able to buy the new pattterns. but I will be buying the Sail boat and sketchbook patterns in the tiny size very soon. I have been getting ready for the new baby and I am hoping to get a few more outfits done by the end of this month.
Right now I am working on a jelly roll floor pillow for my 8 year old in Dr Suess fabric. I bought the yardage and cut all the strips last night which seemed to take for ever. But my boys watched me and played at the table the whole time I was working which made it fun. Hopefully I’ll be done sewing it in a few days with this one. My kids are very excited about it.
12 years ago LINKtami @tamiI just finished a Swingset set yesterday. It turned out SO stinkin’ cute. Today I think I’m going to make the Sailboat pants and top. I made a Sailboat skirt for my 8yo last weekend and really loved the result.
12 years ago LINKJess M. @mommy2mariaI’m really itching to make a billion 2+2 blouses, or peasant dresses. I’m totally stuck into a rut! LOL. I have some adorable fabric, but I’m just not sure what pattern each is calling me to. I do need to pick up some fabric so I can make some puppet show shorts and sailboat/afterschool pants.
12 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Why not post some photos in the Flickr group and ask for suggestions?
I,for one, love to wade in with my opinion(s) and I never mind if you don’t like my ideas…..I will just come up with another!
12 years ago LINKJess M. @mommy2mariaOoh, that’s a fabulous idea!
12 years ago LINKrastis @rastissewing lots and lots of sandbox pants for winter… i’m working on 7 at once at the moment…
12 years ago LINKI just discovered that the bucket hat is a free pattern on this site (obviously late to the party, sorry!). And my older daughter needs a new one for summer. So I just added that to the pile of cut-outs for KCWC. I think I may be biting off more than I can chew, though – I’ve already got five tops cut out. Not sure I can finish them in one week, so I may need to start early …
