Thanks, it is really nice to hear some sympathy. So far the ped and the principal just say “that’s normal.” I’m not sure the recurring ear infections for my baby and my recurring sinus infections are all that normal, but I plan to investigate sinus surgery and ear tubes. If I’ve got another 8 to 10 years of this kind of illness, something has to give. Also, I’ve decided to become one of those people obsessed with germ fighting. I’m treating it like germ warfare! lol. Fortunately, the boys are really into bad guys and good guys these days, ha ha.

Better yet, after a way longbreal I cut out a playdate dress yesterday. I cut pink because it makes me happy. I’m going to take lots of pictures so I can share how I finish the yoke opening. I’m just trying to decide how to embellish the yoke.it needs something, but I don’t enjoy fussing with tho ruffles and I’m bored with the buttons. Maybe I’ll get enough of a break from cupcake making today to work on it. 🙂 and I bought some more Lisette lawn last night for me.

School clothes in boring basic black! One music class skirt and one pair of picnic shorts. They were going to be skorts but miss 9 was adament she wouldn’t wear them, saying she wanted to wear just skirts and just shorts this year. I did the shorts facing to the wrong side for that reason and will check with her to see if she prefers them that way.

I’m still tossing up whether to make the sketchbook shorts in a 10 for N as I’ve noticed he is having difficulty pulling the 8s up right. He is unfortunately blessed with my wide lower hip so maybe the bigger size would be easier for him to get on. The 8s do fit really well they are just harder for him to dress himself. Oh what to do!

so five pairs of sketchbook shorts, 3 skirts and two picnic shorts to start and we shall see how we go with that this week. School starts soon so it is somewhat of a priority.

Oh, that does sound boring. I don’t plan to ever sew uniforms. Plain navy pants and white dress shirts – tedious. Plus, I bought my oldest Lands End’s iron knee pants and he recently put a hole in one of the knees anyway! If Lands End can’t make them strong enough, what hope do I have? That boy could put holes in the knees of a suit of armor! This is why I rarely sew for boys. They just destroy it and I wouldn’t save money either. Pink dresses are much more fun. 🙂 Hopefully, you’ll get to do some fun stuff soon!

Oh that is so funny! holes in a suit of armour – good one.

Pretty and fun is my motto but not this week – have to get this out of the way first and then cut out a whole heap of other clothes (in anything but black) to do intermittently because ….. I’M SEWING COSTUMES!!!!!!

Our school musical production is being performed the first half of this year and I have put my hand up to do the costumes – the play is Sheik Rattle and Roll which has a soft spot in my heart as I had a major role in this very play when I was back in high school AND the production master here at my kids’ school was working on the production I was involved in way back then also – aaaah how is that for just whizz you back in time?? Gosh now I am so feeling my age!!

Nevertheless this is what I am looking forward to the most this term – fun harem pants in pretty colours yippee!

    But first uniforms!

So, I am excited….I am FINALLY making something from LTTS!!! (I bought the book when it first came out and it’s been hollering my name from the bookshelf!) My daughter’s dance class pictures are this weekend and I thought she could use a new tutu! I’ve never worked with tulle before, but I’ve learned two things already…..it disappears when you put it down and 108″ is a very long piece of fabric!!!! : )

How fun! oh to have someone to make a tutu for – my daughter does dance but not ballet. The projects in that book are great and I will be endeavouring to make school hats hopefully before the kids return on Wednesday.

Still plodding along with black school things and made a huge mistake with a music class skirt yesterday when I realised one of the centre panels was sewn UPSIDE DOWN!! That was when I escaped the house and went to find a cuppa at the homestead (my fil’s place).

Adding some yellow to the inside of the waistbands for some colour (and that is the other uniform colour) is currently making sewing with black a little more tolerable. But I admit I haven’t gotten far with this.

Shall go holis bolis into it tomorrow after I have bought more elastic and thread and all the other things I have run out of.

I’m going to be starting on the tutu soon too. I’ve finally found the perfect ribbon and collected all my supplies. Ill have to clean up the house just to have enough room to lay out the tulle. It will be for my preschool auction. I’ll be doing a superhero cape too. So there – sewing for boys! 🙂

Now I really ought to work on those auction items!

oooh! such a great way of finishing the seam on the playdate, thank you for sharing the tutorial 🙂 and the tutu and cape sound really cool!

An aside, this is not something I am sewing now but is already done being sewn. On Wednesday I had all of the items set out for my cousin’s 4 year old to come over for a painting party, there was a drop cloth, paper, plenty of brushes, permanent acrylic paint, string, a palette, and even colored pencils, I was to pick him up in an hour and a half and then I thought, “His mom buys him nice clothes…I have a shirt he can wear but no pants!” Now here is where I mention that we were having our little painting session in my basement which is where my sewing space is and which I have been staying away from because I have to wear long sleeves and a sweater to be comfortable down there in the winter. So I was in a pickle, he needed some pants and FAST! I quickly grabbed my bedtime story pajamas pattern all traced on freezer paper and some flannel left over from an old project. Lucky me I had made him (and his cousins) these pants mere months ago and I remembered his waist size. In an hour I had a brand spanking new pair of pants for him all completed and ready to keep him warm in our studio. When he arrived for our “party” he was so surprised to be able to paint (it was his first time using paints that weren’t watercolors, color mixing is AMAZING isn’t it?) and to have a new pair of pants. I told them they were his paint pants and let him wipe his hands on them and all and he loved them so much he didn’t take them off to go home and later in the night when he was playing his video game on my lap he whispered to himself “I love my pants”. Tyler is one of the bestest most thankful kids ever and he always adores what I make him and really, what more can I ask? So I wanted to say THANK YOU! to Liesl for making the Oliver and S patterns so easy to make, they sure do bring a lot of joy to those around here! 🙂

Sounds like you had a heart singing moment there mle bb. It is really special when the little ones in your life come out with expressions of gratitude like that.

Melanie I love the tutorial and that method is a must try on my to do list in the near future.

For now though I am facing a sewing crisis and seriously ready to pack the whole idea of sewing multitudes of black in the “Never do that again!” basket. Today, I’m playing single mum with two kids (who I wish I could hide from for today at least) while dh is away transporting the relos back to the airport. Meanwhile here I am thinking I will endeavour to complete the task that has taken way too long already.

Think again sunshine! I am now down to one pair of four school shorts that haven’t the need to see a seam ripper anytime soon. The mistake you ask? I attached the pockets wrong, didn’t check and found this out when I went to press them for topstitching AFTER I overlocked!!! Add that to the upside down skirt which will just have to wait until I get the other things right.

I did get something right today though! I had sew on my nephew’s house captain pocket on his school blazer and tacked the side belt thingys down so they don’t slip (the boy has gone down three sizes in his school shorts since this time last year). I told him to do the button himself.

Now I am going to rescue my 9 year old from potential disaster with her little machine which happens to not be threaded!

    Smile! It ain’t that bad!

Thanks, ladies! I’m glad you liked it. Tamara, I’ve just been through a patch when all my projects (the few unmanaged to work on over the past feewtivities months anyway) went horribly wrong. It’s very disheartening indeed. The little pink dress represents finally coming out of the slump. I hope you make it out sooner than me. I’ve been on my own for a few days here too. It’s exhausting! But hubby is back now.

mle bb, what a lovely story! It’s so pleasing when they like the things you make. He sounds like a sweet boy!

I took a day off from sewing yesterday and tackled the kids’ room instead! I don’t know about you guys but I’d imagine that you would feel the same way about things being in order prior to starting back into school routine. It helps them to get into the zone faster I think. So with that I am now back in the zone to get cracking on these shorts and skirts.

Today I plan to just make what I haven’t and at least one hat each for them and then tomorrow go through and sort out what I can do regarding the botched items. All that in between cooking masses of yummy brain enhancing treats for lunch boxes and labeling things.

More teeny tiny Tea Party dresses.

I just finished the 0-3 month in City Weekend for a new baby girl. I am working on the 12-18 mnth in City Weekend for Missy M and I have cut out a size 3 with an inch added to the bodice in a vivid purple-aqua Joel Dewberry for a another special birthday girl.

These little dresses are quite addictive.

I hope to be sewing this summer little dresses too!! Sounds so fun!

I have a Sunday brunch jacket and skirt cut out waiting to go, brown cord jacket picked out by my toddler. She just loves the feel of cord! I am sewing one more top for me today then onto her’s for this Sunday for church. 🙂 I am so excited about sewing again lately. I feel wonderful finally!

After this I have about 5 prints laid aside for 2+2 tops for summer. I have been wanting to get to this all fall/winter long.

Finished 2 more Tea Party dresses and cut 2 out which I have had a go at lengthening.

Today I have sewed up a pair of Sketchbook shorts for Son&Heir, only one although I have 5 cut out, because I want to make sure they fit.

I have made them flat fronted and heavily interfaced the front waistband, fingers crossed they fit!

    What are you sewing now?
