How exciting Adrienne!
Do you have children or are you sewing for lucky friends?
I only need to put buttons/button holes on my Sketchbook shirt and it is done decided NOT to push it and work late Thursday night so he could wear it to the city yesterday(Friday)as I do not work well tired http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com/2011/07/sketchbook-re-discovered.html
Fantastic news,my dealer fixed my cover-stitch for free! Hurray! So I went and purchased some pretty voiles in charcoal florals for my Twins.
I am thinking Ice Cream blouse’s……
13 years ago LINKlattemama @lattemamaI spent most of Thursday at my in-laws’ (my husband went back to work after 5 weeks off and I have 2 more weeks before I get back to work – well one week now – and they invited me to spend the day so the girls could play with Grandpa).
As much as I like the break I get when they riot with grandpa there isn’t a whole lot for me to do out there. Sure I help with cooking and picking up but when that’s done I mostly sit around.
After lamenting to a few friends, one came up with an excellent plan to take some cutting out projects with me.
So I did and I now have one 2+2 Blouse and one Family Reunion Blouse and one 2+2 skirt cut out for them each, as well as a Playdate dress for the little one. Seven projects in all. Perfect occupation since I could still socialise.
Sunday I will have a day to myself as my husband take the kids for a day so I can do what ever I like.
I plan to sew of course. But I think it will also involve some mending. Sofia tore her Jump Rope dress today and I will have to try and mend it. She almost cried when I told her to take it off because I wouldn’t have time to fix it today.
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI hope the dress is selvagable.
What a bonus Nicole! Was it a simple thing that had to be fixed? Love the blog post by the way – very creative and funny.
Adrienne, hope your room is ready to go. When IS back to school time for you? I’m not sure how long your summer break is (ours is 6 weeks).
Today I’m going to sew two Jumprope dresses. I spent all day yesterday cutting up bodices and rearranging them to give the right amount of ease for the size I wanted. I drafted it to what would be considered as a 14 in order to give plenty of growth room and I’m really really hoping she doesn’t grow another 4 inches between now and next year like she’s just done. RTW sizes are generally a 10 – 12 but it all depends on where they are from.
So I’m doing view b in light green corduroy and view a in hot pink drill and I think I might make that one with short sleeves – will have to consult with miss 8 on that one. Very exciting to be able to extend my sewing journey with Oliver + s.
13 years ago LINKMama_Knowles @Mama_KnowlesI can’t wait to see the green corduroy dress! I love the blog post too Nicole! It sure made me smile. How great that your cover-stitch was fixed for free.
I have two jump rope dresses started, view B and just finished a summer dress (my own pattern) for Sweet Pea. I can’t wait to finish the Jump rope dresses, I have seen so many beautiful ones on the flicker group! I hvae been under the weather for a bit now so it has slowed down my sewing. I am hoping this clears up on it’s own very soon!
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitWell it’s nearly finished. I just have to do the hems and the buttons. It took a little time as I forgot to resize the pockets. I showed Murray and he said I should have used a different fabric because the eye is immediately drawn to them. I was just concerned they have been made too big! They were only my second go anyhow. That fabric is staying because I think it compliments the green well.
So buttons and hems and stick it in the wash. Tomorrow I may get a chance to take a photo of it being worn and then I can spend some time getting started on the pink one (which isn’t cut out yet).
13 years ago LINKroyval @royval@justsewit. Cool! Is it possible here to post a photo of it?
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI posted a couple on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/justsewit_tk/5992298535/in/photostream (I really don’t know what I am doing wrong in order to get the links to link but this is the link that won’t link that should link you to one of the photos lol).Grrr… it’s a bit frustrating to not possess computer skills of a higher calibre – I’m a try hard tech head!
I will endeavour to post a photo of a close up of this dress because then you would see the detail etc.
I’m in the process of doing the pink one which I will have to finish quite fast as I have to take the hem up on a ball gown for one of my neighbour’s daughters (our school ball is coming up and she’s cut it very fine in asking me).
13 years ago LINKhomefire @homefireI’ve taken a bit of a sewing break the past few weeks to get my house in order and plan the coming school year but I am anxious to get back to it. We have about 2 more months of warm weather so I’m thinking of pieces that can layer easily. I have a Jumprope dress and a birthday party dress cut out and ready to go. I think I’m going to put those on hold and sew up a tea party playsuit first. I haven’t made one yet and I’m afraid my youngest will be too old for it next summer.
13 years ago LINKthejennigirl @thejennigirlStill sewing like a fool on clothes for the kidlets.
Last night I finished up the Tea Party dress, Class Picnic blouse, Class Picnic shorts, & Sailboat skirt.
Just have button holes and buttons to do on the 2+2 short sleeve blouse, Jumprope view B dress, Family Reunion blouse, Bubble dress, and a pair of pjs (non-O+s pattern).
The Sketchbook shirt is down to sleeves & buttonholes w/ buttons, the Shetchbook pants need their waistband and hem(s), the Family Reunion dress is down to topstitching on the bottom & buttonholes/buttons, the Music Class blouse has a ways to go, the Music Class skirt lacks elastic and a hem, and the 2+2 skirt is at the halfway point.
The goal is to finish everything up before bed tonight. We’ll see how that goes 😉
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaI have been sewing some quick and serviceable things for myself for the rest of the sticky months. (I finally tried a Colette pattern and an fba.) but I finally got my Sarah Jane fabric and will start on baby’s birthday Playdate dress soon.
13 years ago LINKAdrienne @AdrienneMotherof5- I have 2 children. I have a 6 yr old son and a 3 yr old daughter. I sew for them mostly, but I do love sewing for my friends’ children as well.
Justsewit- School officially starts for me on August 10. School ended the last Friday in May. So, I’ve had quite a bit of time off. However I am teaching at a school that was just built! We still have contractors and painters walking around! I have had to work around contractors and painters schedules in order to not be in the way. I should finish my classroom either tomorrow or Tuesday and plan to spend the last of my free time with my family and my sewing machine!!!
13 years ago LINKlattemama @lattemamaWell, I got the dress mended. It’s not a perfect job, but it will be hidden underneath the sash and she’s never still so no one will notice.
I got one project done of the seven I cut out – the Playdate dress for Sofia.
I started on two 2+2 skirts (one for each girl) but it’s been so sticky and hot here I had to give up for the day.
I am also picking up an old project – a coat for Isabel. I’m using the School Days coat pattern and I hope to get some adjustments done – mainly sizing it up to fit my 145 cm tall 7 year-old.
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaAugust 10! Yikes! I can’t wrap my head around that. School should start after Labor Day and that’s all there is to it. 😉 mymparents live in Georgia, so I know that southerners do things differently, but going back to school in August when it’s still so hot and sticky your head can’t even function? I’m glad I don’t have to deal with that.
I’ve been thinking about back to school sewing, though. My oldest starts Kindergaryen this year -sniff- but he’ll be in a Catholic school uniform. My second son will start preschool. What could I make for them to mark the occasion?
13 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOh! Gosh that’s next week!!! And the tradies are still there?! They are very slow. Still a lovely new school is an opportunity to really turn the room into your own. I hope you get it done soon enough to bond with the sewing machine. Over here the teachers always go back three days before the children at the start of the year as they have to have courses and things and get their rooms organised within that time frame. Of course most don’t and go on the weekend or a couple of days in the week prior to starting.
We generally return for the new school year the first week of February or the last couple of days in January and it is always the hottest week – we’re talking 47 degrees! So I can definitely relate to sweaty kids and being tired. We trialed daylight savings for three years straight and it was a total nightmare! My kids have to catch the bus at 7.05am so you can imagine the fuss of it being an hour early and having to try and get them into bed when the sun was still blazing (and I only had one at school at that time) – I’m glad we voted it out!! Eastern states are fine because they get dark quicker but our government failed to realise that the sun sets in the WEST!!
It’s a very long break you have but how long are the terms and the breaks in between? Does this counteract and balance out to a set number of weeks off? And do teachers get paid holidays???
Meleliza do your boys need library bags or reading folders for their home readers? You could make them one to mark the occasion. Just don’t do what I did and spend 6 weeks applique-ing and quilting 2 library bags, 2 reading folders, a chairbag and a pencil case – what WAS I thinking??? That was the whole summer holiday!
Today I’m going to try and finish the pink jumprope dress view a.
Tamara
13 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaI don’t know – tho things weren’t on the list of school supplies I got. At one point they wanted Explorer vests, but haven’t talked about that in a while. Also, it will still be hot through September and in to October before they need any kind of outerwear. They want me to knit them hats, but same goes. Oldest son will need a wallet I think. I remember a tutorial somewhere…
