I can’t wait to see how you pleat them.

Oh I pleat them for smocking using a pleater which I have had for over twelve years. Because I want to work with a finer fabric like voile, I use a light weight interfacing just on the area where I pleat. It plumps the pleats up so they are easier to distribute. These will be in the bishop style but I want to pleat a couple of square yokes also. I just find they are nice and simple for the first few weeks and because it will be hot they will be shorter. I want to make some Angel tops also – Bishop style but with the flutter sleeve. They will be nice for going out where baby would be inside but still feel hot (our church is not Air conditioned so it is rather uncomfortable in summer).

Well the maxi dress was a huge hit. I will try and get a photo of it modelled. It fit like a glove and she is “stoked” she looks “hot”.

Have to say that the inspiration came from Cindy’s latest creation for her gorgeous eldest daughter – Imogen took one look and basically announced it was so cute she “needed” one! But I didn’t have the time to fiddle with a pattern (I have one I could have adapted) so went with a tried and trued t shirt pattern instead – dead easy!

so anyway, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I hope your girl is quite chuffed by the acknowledgement Cindy.

chuffed ? A good thing right? I think I have decided to go with the puppet show shorts for under dresses. That way she gets the puffiness she likes and the coverage I want. Maybe the new grandchild will be a girl and I can make tea party bloomers for her.

Yes chuffed means another way of saying pleased/ thrilled etc.

Just spent a bit of time sorting out the bedlam I seem to cause every time I sew. Now I have tidied work spaces I can sew and not have to spend time looking for things that I need.

    But first, lunch!

Honeymadeit- we live in TX too, our local school dress code requires the girls to wear bloomers or shorts unders dresses in elementary school- so I wouldn’t imagine she would look any different from the other girls on the monkey bars.

Happy sewing- O+S always puts me in a happy place for my sew-jo.

JohannaO I was just worried about the tea party bloomers not covering enough between the legs. At 5 her sense of modesty isn’t quite developed enough. She likes bloomers but I was a little concerned about teasing. The bloomer pattern we have been using isn’t the greatest and she has outgrown it. I have used the puppet show shorts as bloomer like covering and they cover what needs to be covered. I was just wondering if the tea party bloomers covered enough. I have the pattern and would like to use what I have.

Do you make a separate wardrobe for Fall or do you just change out shorts for leggings and long sleeve tee shirts for short? What part of Texas are you? We are just NW of Houston.

Justsewit I saw some popover sundresses with smocking and they were so cute. When I find some more time I would love to learn how. Yes, I just need a new hobby LOL

We’re Northeast of Houston- so at least on the same side of town! Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about modesty in a five year old. Half the time they flash each other on purpose so they can show off their character undies. I have used some free patterns for fast knit bike shorts and jazz shorts to accomodate the dress code. There is also the Badminton skirt which is a nice skort for school.

We don’t really make a separate wardobe for fall, but this beautiful weather has me doing some wishful thinking. Our school is cold (I work at the school where my kids attend classes), so they always have a jacket for class, and then shorts and tees or dresses for P.E. and recess. There’s a signficant amount of outside time in their day, so we have to dress them for both indoor A/C and hot humid muggy/buggy.

The weather this week has been great. Just don’t blink or it will change. Last winter was the coldest I can remember. I love all the wool everyone uses but that would never fly here. Not to mention I am allergic to lanolin. The heaviest fabric I use is denim and sometimes fleece. I am ready to try some different better quality fabrics. When I get my stash down some I am going to explore. Maybe some kind of silk or real linen.

Isn’t it funny how we wear jackets inside all summer and outside in the winter.

You could also use the free Sunny Day shorts pattern and if she wants a more bloomer-like look, just make the bottom hems narrower and insert 1/4″ elastic.

I love wool but it’s just not the most practical fiber for someone nursing – the chances I’ll get spit up on daily are pretty good :-P. So fabrics that are easily washable are key. I really can’t justify the expense just yet (at least til I finish all my other scheduled sewing!), but I LOVE the idea of a Liberty french terry or sweatshirt fleece Bento…it would be the coziest thing ever. I probably wouldn’t wear anything else all winter!

Isn’t French terry the same thing as sweatshirt fleece? I don’t know these fabrics, that’s why I want to explore. I want to feel and caress and smell and drape new fabrics. Sounds like fabric sex, maybe I need professional help. LOL

    Snigger, fabric porn.

I finished both welt pockets on Liddy’s jeans.

Its a Rock Star moment, like the Jumprope placket.

What’s something I do on my computer late at night when nobody can look over my shoulder? Browse fabric. So, yes, Nicole, exactly!

I haven’t sewn much this week, but have been hanging out with friends 🙂

Plans today are to start on an Elsa coronation outfit which will be a Christmas gift for my 5 year old niece 🙂 A self drafted tiered circle skirt, one of my signature pieces that the girl requested for the skirt 🙂 I’m thinking of using the seashore bodice with shirred side panels for easy dressing and maybe a black tee for underneath.

Then the cape! I was thinking of using the Red Riding Hood Cape from LTTS but I would need to lengthen it to “trail on the floor” and I’m not sure it’s really the right shape. Maybe a plain gathered rectangle? She has been using a large flag as her cape recently 🙂 or maybe a modified Forest path cape? I’ve got 2m of pink Panne velvet I picked up on special a couple of weeks ago.
