What are you sewing now?

Hear ye you doubters… I just learned a trick from a Japanese pattern that I’ll now copy over to my Oliver + S sewing!

Before turning a collar right side out, iron all the seam allowances towards the under collar. Then when you turn it the seam naturally rolls a tiny bit to the under collar side and presses really easily. No pesky finger rolling. If I knew any Japanese I’d type “hallelujah”!

Sarvi the book I’m using is one of the Yuki Araki ones. Possibly “Let’s go out Girl’s Clothes”

The cardigan is gorgeous and I’m halfway through a dress.

I’ll have to take some close ups as the collar is attached with a binding strip which gives a lovely finish.

It’s well past bedtime but I’ve ticked off another pair playtime leggings (4 in total now), a Flashback skinny T and half this dress. My morning jog may not be happening tomorrow…

All my plans for a successful sewing week went out the window when my husband & I got into a horrible fight this weekend, and it wasn’t smoothed over until this evening. I’ve been so agitated that instead of sewing, I’ve ripped out the old carpet (that was slated to go this month anyway) on the 3rd floor stair case in the 2 oldest minions’ rooms. And cleaned out cupboards and purged in the master bedroom.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll be able to sit down and sew without gnashing teeth.

Oh thejennigirl, so very glad you smoothed out the creases. Arguments in marriage can be vital I’ve been told but then it is all about how you fight isn’t it!? I can understand the stress related not wanting to sew factor. That has been huge here of late too (but by fil not the hubby).

Well my Amy Butler traveller dress is done and I am wearing it! It feels so beautiful on but for some reason the sleeves are still snug despite the measurements being more than roomy. I am looking forward to making the one in stretch sateen – will be great for those “fat” days.

Now listen before you girls go and cry out about photos and proof, I have to tell you my dolly looks ridiculous in this dress. We were supposed to do my clone this week but hubby has been roped in to shear all week so hopefully on the weekend? My camera charger is still yet to be located so it will have to be just a rather blurry photo of me instead ok? I will see if Noah is up to the task and will use my discretion accordingly over uploading the photo or not – people in this family are notorious for headless shots but it’ll do right?

Anyway, we have six minutes before needing to leave for school so maybe he can take some snaps of me when we are at school and then you can see later.

    E-hugs to you Jenny.

Finally glued my Cappuccino PDF together!

I am sure you were sick of me banging on about that!.

Jennigirl, I hope your husband was equally productive and cleaned out the shed or dug over the garden or something, then it could almost be a fight worth having had! Seriously though, there’s nothing worse than unresolved tension. Glad all’s well now.

Just downloaded the new t shirt patterns. Once again perfect timing Liesl. Extra thrilled there is a men’s pattern.

Halfway through my black and white traveller dress. Was hoping to wear it today but it of course would look weird me wearing a half made dress in public. Will get the chance to complete it tomorrow and just in time too as it is the last day of term.

Fights with the hubby are no fun, Jennigirl. But, wow, you got a lot accomplished! I have a sister like that; if she was mad about something she could move mountains!

My sewing machine is at the repair shop right now, so no sewing for me. But I did get the black, with neon green facings, western shirt almost done for my toddler. Just needs the pearl snaps attached and hemmed.. It turned into a knock-off Cinch instead of Wrangler. My big boys are pretty pleased with it, but there is some ugly topstitching which I think I will redo when I get my machine back. Which is the reason I took the machine in; I couldn’t get the bobbin thread stitches to be straight and even no matter how much I fiddled with the tension or changed needles.

Sounds like there are some new patterns I need to go see!

Spent the afternoon in a 3 hour meeting and sewed buttons on a library dress. I’m going to bring more hand sewing to long meetings. I find I pay attention better if I’m sewing something.

Robin we women have the need to multitask in our genetic make up I am certain of it.

I finished my black and white Traveller dress and wore it to collect N at school. I will wash it and take photos of it on the hanger along with the others.

I printed out the cappuccino dress pattern yesterday along with the cape pattern. I want to squeeze some cool weather selfish sewing in somewhere but can’t see it happening much for the next fortnight. Besides it is still summer type weather – I was hoping that by sewing winter stuff it would make it rain.

I will print off the t shirt patterns and do them I think. We all need t shirts.

No sewing but I did cut out a Sunki for Liddy and the Cappuccino tunic for me.

Tamara you can have our rain, I’m sick of it already.

Last night I made a Sailboat dress and tonight I’m working on a Playtime dress. Love the inseam pockets (first time for me) but don’t love the underarm seam allowances. They tend to scrunch like the Ice Cream dress ones that I did French seams on. Snipping the seam allowance after I’d finished it with the overlocker seemed daft but it’s what had to happen.

    Sarvi @Sarvi

Not daft, I don’t think — I’m almost positive somebody else here had mentioned doing that, and said it worked really well.

While all you hares are sprinting ahead in your KCW lists, I have only just finished my Puppet Show shorts. As Heidi mentioned above, doing multiples somehow is not as satisfying even though it’s more efficient. I made four things but somehow feels like I only made one. I’m using a few different patterns for the tops though, so there’s that.

    I am 3/4’s through a tute.;)

Clip the underarm seam *before* neatening, it works a treat.

And if you are overlocking only, mark the seam with a pencil, snip and then overlock.

    Sarvi @Sarvi

Ah, that’s right, I had it backwards.

Lightning, I do the same as Nicole. If a seam allowance needs clipped I do that first, then serge. I always do one or two snips at the underarm seam before I serge.
