I would love to see the tutorial. I’m thinking of getting this pattern just for the in seam welt pocket as I’m having a hard time warming up to the design π Hopefully Liddy’s will change that π
I’ve just finished a Red Riding Hood Cape in dark grey with white and purple floral lining. This is my one to see if it fits my friend and I can use the pattern as the basis for one for her wedding.

The Garden Party is next for me, assuming that my daughter and I can agree on a fabric out of my stash. It’s been too long since I’ve made something, and it’s making me going a bit loopy!

I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to sew next. Today I cleaned out the kids’ drawers – despite taking a huge bagful from Lucy’s, her drawers are still full and she needs nothing for Winter. Rosie does – but sewing for her is not an option at the moment (hoping she grows out of it!). The boys both need things – long sleeves tees mainly – but that kind of sewing is not very fun. Shall spend this week doing some prep for KCW I think π

I just tries the cape on my friend and it fits! She loved it and got heaps of compliments on the trial version. Only a couple of modifications remove about half an inch in length and add a curve to the front to show off the accented waistband π I’m very happy to be able to use one of Liesl’s great Oliver and S patterns for this, it’s taken a lot of stress out of it π

Oh Justine! I can relate to the whole saga of girls not wanting you to sew for them. I hope Rosie grows out of it too! In terms of wardrobes full of clothes, my daughter has handmade clothing she doesn’t want to wear and chooses to wear whole pieces of fabric at home instead! I think it is time to teach her how to cut and sew using a pattern.
I have washed and picked out fabrics for my “me” sewing sessions – somehow it has turned into a palette of black, white and grey. Not that that was intended or anything. I am hoping the embroidered voile will be enough to make a late lunch tunic but I have my doubts.
I printed off two of the four patterns and will stick them together some time this week.
Mind you I did nothing, absolutely diddly squat today. I suffered a bad head and tried to rest it off but was forced off rest to do other things. I made lists instead.

Hi there everyone, I have been keeping up my reading of all your posts but haven’t contributed much lately; too busy, and too tired when not sewing. I’ve just spent the last couple of days drafting and cutting out 3 pairs of Sleepover Pj’s, a size 3 Music Class skirt, a size 7 Badminton skort (not sure whether to include pants, as the kid always wears leggings), a Music Box Pinny 18-24mths, another Roller Skate (size 4), and a Playtime (size 5). Have also traced several other patterns but not ready to struggle with fabric yet.
I have finished making a Roller Skate, Tea Party playsuit, and Music Box (view B) in a variety of sizes for a little one in Oregon. As the pyjamas need to be ready by Easter week, my anxiety forced me to cut them out, and consequently have delayed putting buttons on toddler Music Box but they WILL be in the post this week. All this effort made my back really hurt so had to rest Friday, so Saturday was swimming and shopping, and today was cutting etc so I can finally get all of the above off the floor so I can vacuum it. Didn’t seem much point when I was making more mess.
I have ordered the Hide and Seek, and the Lullaby, and of course Meliliza has been kind enough to sell me the small version of the Sunday Brunch so I have plenty to look forward to re. winter sewing. I’m really keen on the H and S; I can see novelty fabrics in the front and back yokes, and corduroy or striped linen for the body of the frock.
I’m away to Melbourne for Easter from 14th April, and I know I will forget what I intended to make out of what by the time I return hence this rather OTT drafting/cutting of outfits. I’m really looking fwd to sewing the pj’s after cleaning up in my flat; I’ve never made this pattern before, and I’ve modified the cuffs and pockets to save seams and time.
PS: Re. an Easter frock; I’m very fond of the Family Reunion – it’s such a lovely shape and can be easily ‘tarted’ up with extra special buttons/piping/lace/top-stitching. Pleased to hear so many of you are trying out patterns for yourselves rather than just the kids; best of luck to everybody.

Hello Fi! Missed seeing you posting but so glad you have been reading up on our doings and being extremely busy yourself it sounds. Can’t wait to see your latest upload of all these masterpieces. Do hope you are keeping well – you sound down?
Going to send you an fm re that dress we talked about a few months back ok?
I love the sound of busy ladies just going hammer and tongs getting these outfits sewn. Wish I could just shut and and get on with it too but I have housework that needs to get out of the way or I will simply go mad – and yes I live in a house with three others yet I am the solo unpacker – life was not meant to be the easiest was it?
Anyway, sewing this afternoon as a treat for clearing away stuff!

Finished up a pair of pants from a Little Lisette pattern. Hoping to (soon!) finish up the LL tunic and a Garden Party blouse to coordinate with the pants. Little fella’s Easter outfit to sew as well, so there may be some re-arranging necessary.
11 years ago LINKSince next week is KCW, I have decided that the time until then is all about me π I cut out another Moss skirt for myself last night; in an 8 (eek) because that roughly corresponds to what my last skirt ended up as when I took it in. I’m using a fabric with similar stretch to the last one, so it should work, but 8 seems so small! After I was done cutting, though, I lost my sew-jo. I felt like a balloon whose air had suddenly whooshed right out. Hope I can find it today. I am borrowing a neighbor’s car to take the girls to and from school today and once we know how long our car will be in the shop (should have that info today) we can figure out what to do in the meantime.

I finished a Hide-and-Seek for Sofia yesterday. It was a lovely sew but I think I may be out of practise because I kept messing it up. As in catching seam allowances on the under side and getting pleats where I didn’t want them. But it ended up a nice dress and Sofia likes it too.
This morning I had breakfast with the girls and Isabel dropped little hints that she didn’t think Sofia needed any more dresses and maybe I could make her something. She is right of course. Sofia doesn’t need another dress. I just love making them.

Redrafted the front and back of the cape, rounded the front corner and removed half an inch all the way round.
I am trying to sew the No Tie Scarf from LTTS but I think I shout have turned the loop pieces out before sewing right sides together of the scarf. I’ll leave it and see if I can work it out. Once this one’s done only 4 to go!

Heidi that was the one step that had me completely flummoxed as well.
See here: https://oliverands.com/forums/topic.php?id=2050 where I may not have made the solution very clear. I maintain that there’s an error in logic in the instructions (although the fact that I’m the only one to date to have had a problem doesn’t fit with that theory π ). If the sides are sewn right side together then one can’t “start turning it inside out” as it already is inside out.
Sew the sides, then turn it right side out, press the side seams nicely, THEN start turning it inside out and follow the instructions and it comes together fine.

I am having a really lovely time with my (I mean Kitty’s) pink linen coat! The fabric is so lovely to touch, I’m glad I chased it down. The stitches sink into it, it takes a nice press and it hangs beautifully. And the sleeves have ruffles! and it’s pink! and it’s going to have a teeny bit of Liberty piping on the inside! And the seams lined up *perfectly* so far! And it may well be – I’m so glad you’ll all understand my happiness with a good project when I say this – the most beautiful coat any little girl has ever worn! I don’t mean this the bragging way, I mean it the way children say “it was the best _____ ever!” I think I wish I could wear it myself. Good thing I’m making a Round Trip jacket out of the same stuff. π I wish you all equally happy sewing.

I didn’t get to sew yesterday or today. I was on a roll with getting the most public rooms in the house really sorted. I am not quite done but nevertheless I am still aiming to sew tomorrow.
School has announced a fundraiser day for Friday where the kids have to wear boardshorts to school. The trouble is only one kid has them so I guess this is what I’ll be sewing tomorrow. I also have to find the charger to the camera to take photos and upload them. I have some black and white sateen I want to use but have a few patterns in mind to use but can’t finalise the decision. So I will need to some help in deciding. I might just have to take a pic with the ipad seeing as it hasn’t cropped up yet. Its around somewhere but I just hate when things get lost in a move!
