Mcholley, what about a white music class blouse or 2+2? Or even a white class picnic top? and pair it with a skirt or music box jumper? Then you have two pieces a white shirt, which never goes astray, and a skirt or jumper to mix with the rest of the wardrobe. And if there’s enough white what about a sketchbook shirt for your boy to coordinate? 🙂

How scary Masha! I am so glad your ok.
Believe it or not after not sewing for over two weeks I finally, finally finished sewing my peach Chantilly dress! (All I had to do was sew in the zipper and hem it) It a tad big but not bad looking I think. It’s super comfortable to wear too. I am thinking about waiting a few weeks before I cut out the good fabric for the next one that way if I lose some weight I can go ahead size down one or if not I just might make the same size as this one. I’ll have to show modeled pictures to you ladies and see what you think. (Oh yah, I also cleaned the bathroom up today and even mopped the kitchen floor! I am on a roll…..now I am ready for bed).

Oh it sounds so good to hear that you are really mending Sharon! I am so sick of mopping and cleaning anything right now – my priorities have shifted greatly for the time being. You do need energy, physical and mental sometimes to get jobs like that accomplished but I am so glad to hear you were able to do it just out the sheer fact of feeling so much better. And the weight will fall off you’ll see.
I have two boxes and two large garbage bags full of stuff to take out of the sewing room after my almost midnight cleaning/ sorting spree. I am just about to compile a list of things to buy at Spotlight. One item, another set of those stackable drawers to accommodate my exploding patterns stash! One lot for kids patterns and one lot for me and I had to evict some special fabrics from their safe haven drawers to put some of the patterns away! I am seriously considering looking for some suedette type fabric for a cape – I think it was mentioned in the catalogue.
Tomorrow I have decided to work on the Traveller pattern. It is changing seasons here and I think this would be a good one for all sorts of activities be it at home or out and about. I want that classic white shirt back in the wardrobe too so I think it will be a well used pattern this week.
It isn’t quite jeans weather but I want to get to the jalie jeans pattern this week also – my current ones are so big I have to either find and wear a belt or keep hitching them up! And the smaller sized rtw ones I wore in Perth last time had a bit of a malfunction – nothing some topstitching thread can’t fix but one needs it in order to fix it! I just want to make jeans and be able to say that I can make them well. It is one of those sewing milestones I have yet to reach.
I am hoping my Spotlight will have rivets and things so I can make them otherwise I will have to order the little things online and wait….. with drumming fingers.
Anyway, wishing you all a wonderful wonderful day sewing – we are treating the kids to a movie (Mr Peabody and Sherman) in compensation for my incessant need to shop for sewing supplies!

Sharon, so very glad to hear you are on the mend, and I for one can’t wait to see pics of your Chantilly! It does make such a pretty dress, doesn’t it?

….just checked Flickr – Sharon, it is beautiful – I want some modelled pics please!
11 years ago LINKYes, Sharon, modeled pics stat! It looks lovely.
And Tamara, I’m afraid you are quite a tease. Talking about all this selfish sewing and still, we haven’t gotten to see that Diplomat dress you made? I need some evidence! 🙂 The Traveler is a fantastic pattern. I wear both of mine every week and I’m sure the third (which just needs sleeve hems and buttons) will be in similar rotation once it is warm enough for Swiss dot.

I cut out a Hide and Seek dress for Lidia today. I am very excited to sew that.
I just spent the last two hours sorting my ‘Too Sew’ baskets. I took a lot out and put the fabric away. Now it will be fun and new. Funny enough, it was full of quilting cottons for play clothes and now there is just a few pieces of City Weekend and Hope Valley for lining capes. The rest is wool, linen, plain drills and cottons. Very neutral indeed.
My children just don’t need that many home clothes now they are all in school.

Gah! I haven’t forgotten. Truth be known is the Diplomat is all wrinkled and needs washing and I haven’t worn it since my mum’s party weekend (when the camera was forgotten also and not on purpose I might add). I will have to set up “Dolly” and she can model it for you until such time as I can get to wear it again. I am fearing that if my jeans need a belt then the dress might be loose also but it is only a guess. I have the pink linen ready to make another so I will keep you in check. I will be doing the three quarter sleeves for that one.
And yes I know I promised!
I have just returned from a long day where I finally got to Spotlight. I bought some beautiful suede in a brown for my cape, along with more denim and some white sateen for a traveller shirt I think. 4 metres of the stuff would be absolutely plenty I should think.
I am looking forward to working on the traveller. I need work clothes aswell as good ones so the check fabric will be hoisted out of its hiding place.
Oh I bought some more flannel too to make pyjamas for the kids. Not that I didn’t have some already but I couldn’t resist the chevron bekko style look alike prints. I will wash it and set it aside for kcw, it will be an incentive to work on them before the cold weather really hits.

Oh yes there will be modeled pictures soon! It’s raining this morning so I am waiting for sunny weather. I am planning on wearing it to the doctors on Monday so that would be the latest time for pictures.
yes Tamara, a modeled picture pretty please!!
Nicole the Hide and seek dress is what Sarah is waiting on for me to make. This is the very first pattern that she has gotten excited over. I love it. : )

Honestly, I don’t like any of my O+S patterns for this fabric. I think I want something more romantic. I need to make a big dig through my vintage ones. Yes, withloveHeidi….my boy will be getting a button-down shirt. I haven’t decided between a solid white or the check for him.
N, that seems like the perfect pattern for her. I can’t wait to see it!
And Sharon, sounds like you are feeling better…so glad to hear that!!
justsewit…My son and I pretty regularly both stay in pajamas until it is time to go pick up his sister from school in the afternoon!

Oh granted pjs are very comfortable and I admit to pyjama days myself but I can never muster the courage to do the bus run with them. I think it has something to do with my upbringing where I was made to be dressed by a certain time or there’d be fire and brimstone in return for non compliance. I always feel really embarrassed if we have someone pop in and I am in my pyjamas – part of my huge fear of criticism I suppose.
Its 6am and I feel like sewing. But it is also Sunday and I think I deserve to have bit more of a sleep in.

MC, I did answer on your photo. First up, I LOVE doing this! I never mind if you take my suggestions (I have teenage daughters, I am used to that).
I agree with the Wren suggestion, but I do think the Garden Party could work. Perhaps if you underline, maybe with a slightly gold coloured lining and add extra fullness to the skirts and have long sleeves. Pipe the front and back yokes and waist bands. I think it could have a Grecian feel and be very elegant.
Particularly if you plait her hair and find some wee gold flowers on hair pins and trailing gold ribbons. Did you know you can bake ribbons in the oven, wrapped around pencils and they will stay curly?
Whoops, I got carried away, but I love this sort of thing. I think I may start a new thread.

I have started it Heidi!!!!
I have finished todays mending (jeans, swopped buttons on a cheap cardy and fixed a school bag) and now I have started the Hide-and-Seek.
I am liking it very much so far. I am photographing it and will (hopefully) not stuff up this time!

Can’t wait to see what you do with it. My kid’s getting a ton of wear out of hers.
I cut out a bunch of baby projects, then stalled out. Hope good health returns next week and my sew-jo with it.
