Sounds like all you gals have been busy! RTWG, I have been wanting the H&F pattern too, let me how it is to sew.
No sewing here still, three weeks later….I not much in the mood to sew at the moment but I did go and buy some of Sarah’s wish list fabrics for her so hopefully this helps. I was dreaming of sewing her sailor dress last night though. : )

I ended up sewing up 3 sets of Ergo strap covers, one to match the blanket I just made and 2 more sets to put away for gifts! I’ll have to take photos in the morning, too dark now.

I want to hear more about the strap covers! My best friend is due with her third baby in April…and I’m still trying to decide what I’m making for she and the baby. She’s one of those who doesn’t find out the gender ahead of time…so no pretty clothes yet.
Sharon, somewhere online that I can’t remember now…I saw some solid color sailor dresses with whipstitch piping and bright floral contrast fabric on the under collar only. I can’t stop thinking about them!

mcholley1 they sound divine! I was just looking at whipstitch piping yesterday for this, believe it or not. I am debating between navy blue or pink. I am going to be using the Sarah Jane out to sea boat border fabric in blossom for the main dress with an all white top bodice with piping between the seams on the bodice. (I using the free pattern off the Sarah Jane blog for this dress) I also have a vintage sailor dress pattern I am going to her a traditional sailor dress too. My grandmother just sent me some very lovely navy blue fabric for this one. Can you tell I am day dreaming of the sea side?

Oh Sharon, I am sorry you are so poorly Sweetheart. I wish you could just have the surgery like me and get better.xxx
Yesterday I spent 6 hours lengthening and taking in 25 handed down garments (nearly all Oliver+S) from the Twins for Liddy.
Liddy is in heaven!
We swopped some buttons too. Just to jazz things up.

I bet Liddy is happy to get new to her clothes! Dose she end up with a lot given there are two sister the same age above her? I love the idea of changing out buttons to give them a different feel 🙂
I’ll get more information on the Strap covers up after I take pictures this morning. They are so useful because you can easily just wash the strap cover rather than the whole Ergo after they have sucked or had a mini chuck. I’m planning to give two sets at the baby shower in a couple of weeks, one for on the carrier and one for the wash!

Thank you Nicole, as of right now I have surgery scheduled for 20th of next month. It is wonderful to know that you feel so much better, it makes my nerves a bit calmer.
I bet miss Lindy is loving it! I wish there was a wee girl in our family to hand down Sarah’s things too.

Mcholleyl, here’s the Ergo Strap covers I just made, and one from previously http://www.flickr.com/photos/73669617@N07/12529932394/
I was going to make a tutorial today but didn’t have the right coloured bias tape and then I picked fabrics with no right or wrong side! So I made another one and a half sets but no step by step photos 🙁
Writing all that made me think again about starting a Blog as it might be easier to put the info in a Blog post.

I’m making another item from LTTS! My friend brought around some old scrubs they found when cleaning up so I am making art smocks. The fabric is lovely and thick and since the scrubs were theatre scrubs they should keep the paint off the school uniforms!

@LightningMcStitch
Perfect! Scrubs will make great art smocks. Now, confess Heidi, how many are you making?
I made my first Art Smock recently (yet to be photographed and added to the Challenge pool) and it is a lovely pattern.

I’m making 3 smocks! Yes, you were right Lighting I’m making multiples again. But it has got me thinking as to why I make multiples, as did making four and a half sets of Ergo Strap covers in the last couple of days. 🙂
I think only one of the smocks will be THE art smock from LTTS, that one is nearly finished, it’s a medium width but with lots of extra length for a 4 year old who measure the width of a 3T but the height of nearly size 6, and I want it to last a few years and make use of the existing hems.
The second is more a refashion, remove the collar, remove the pockets and put them on the new front, replace the cuffs and maybe change the closure. I think this one will take longer than just using the fabric and re cutting.
The third I want a similar style to LTTS but I want to make it larger. The middle child has a smock I made a couple of years ago, I like to make them biiig, which will do this year and he didn’t want a new one. So the last smock will be put away for next year. I’m thinking I’ll use an Enid Gilchrist peasant dress pattern as my base.
Yes three smocks here 🙂

I’d like to make a pencil skirt today. I bought the wool crepe, horsehair, boning, lining… Does anyone else struggle with “get it done as quickly as possible” versus “take your time, enjoy the process, learn something new, do it right”? Because I have some denim and fusible interfacing in the stash and I figure I can knock that version out in a couple of hours. lol
11 years ago LINKRobin, I go through phases. After the glut of sewing I did for myself, which was more of the take-my-time variety, I’m now enjoying sewing up some quick knit items for the kids. Looking forward to seeing your skirt (denim, or wool!)
I knocked out a bunch of sewing this weekend. Made a set of knit pajamas for the baby, and finally finished up an earflap hat I started sewing in the fall. I had made a silly error on it, and rather than pick out the stitches immediately I let it sit for six months. It took me less than 10 minutes to correct my error and finish the hat. Funny how that is sometimes.
I also made two ballet sweaters for the girls from the Heidi and Finn pattern. I have to say I’m not super impressed. The pattern itself was ok, but there is no size chart on it anywhere, nor that I could find on the Etsy site, and I still have no response to the inquiries I sent Friday morning their time. So I had to guess on the sizing. The instructions were more tutorial-like than full-pattern like. But it did make a cute sweater and I am sure I will get a lot of use out of it over the years, since I bought the wider size range that goes up to 12 years.
Today I altered my Playtime legging pattern to turn them into jeggings (meaning with front and back pockets and a faux fly) and I cut the resulting pieces out of some fuschia and white polka dot knit. I can’t wait to sew them tomorrow!
11 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love Heidi
The jeggings sound so cute!
And Robin, I can’t wait to see your pencil skirt.
I’ve finished the first of my smocks, and posted pictures 🙂
I’ve done all the unpicking on the second one, and the darning. I’ve repositioned the pockets and removed the cuffs. Mainly sewing from here!

Oh I want to so very much join in with all these wonderful sounding sewing projects. I think I have lost my sewing mojo so in a desperate bid to get it back, I have finally traced the Gilda and Seamus swimsuit patterns (Ottobre design 03/2009). You would think the hubby would be pleased to think I am once again saving him some $$ with making items at home. But when I announced and showed him this dress I had selected to cut up (just for the sake of some black stretchy fabric for bindings and a possible second Gilda) he cried “Oh no! Not that beautiful expensive dress that makes you look hot?” It sure does make me look hot – and stuffy as it is polyester and this heat only proves the point (besides it has been sitting my wardrobe for years and I have no time to sit and wait for an international parcel). Anyway! I said I have to use it and so it is sitting on the cutting table awaiting execution. It wasn’t expensive btw, a dress from Target some seven years ago – it’s time!
So I have now got the dilemma of colours and patterns to which I will get the kids to decide which they want. I am drawn to thinking the blue might be good as then they can wear them to the swimming carnival (they are in sapphire which is blue (of course)) but once again the girl might go for the signature colour of pink. I have a few to choose from anyway.
Really really hoping these swimsuits can be made before the week is out (even though swimming lessons finish this week). I am hopelessly behind schedule these days.
