This morning 15 mins before work I decided I needed to modify some yoga pants with inconvent holes into leggings to wear to work ( with a long skirt to cover the holes :). 10 mins later I walked out of the house with “new” leggings!

I now need to harvest the elastic from those to make real new leggings with no inconvenient holes 🙂

I finished the first set of jeggings yesterday. I say “first set” because when little sister saw big sister’s, she requested her own pair – and I have just enough fabric for a second set. This will give me a chance to iron out the kinks in my pattern alterations – I think I will do a tutorial for it on my blog too. It’s also lucky that my 3yo asked for a pair – because I made a size 3 for the 4yo and they are a little baggy. They fit the 3yo perfectly though. So I’ll make 2s for my next pair. They were a big hit.

    Oh yes, a tutorial please!

I spent the weekend taking apart an heirloom dress so I could re-create it. I took the entire thing apart! What an interesting job it was. I’m also making a Liestte traveller tunic for myself in flannel. I want something warm and cozy to lounge around in during all these snow days. 🙂 Then, I think it will be time to start on some spring clothes for baby girl. I don’t think there’s any point in doing more winter stuff, even though it seems like the snow will never be gone. I amass of this morning officially sick of wearing snow boots every single day and climbing over piles of snow to get the kids in the car.

Well the swimsuit colours are now definitely decided – once Imogen saw that pink and black tiger print fabric she was hooked. Noah wants his blue and black which is fine by me but apparently I also have to make him a new blue rash top also. I will be working solidly on these today.

I have been steadily wading through the mending pile. I was able to take the waist band of several of my tiny jeans and make them fit the Twins. Perfect for farm work.

Good for you! I was just folding laundry and thinking that knowing how to sew, I really ought to patch up some of these kids’ hole-y play clothes. But I can’t seem to find the discipline to actually do it.

I sewed before work again this morning 🙂 I had a pair of leggings all pinned onto the fabric for me, and since my other clothes were on the line, I cut them out sewed them up and wore them to work all I in 30 mins. I even salvaged the elastic from the yoga pants and added the elastic with the overlocker, a new technique for me 🙂

I cut out a nice cream dress and a bunny appliqué to go on it. And I cut one out for baby doll too, with a tiny bunny appliqué. I was just in the mood for something cute an easy. I have to finish up my Traveller tunic first, though.

Also, I have committed to making middle son a ninja costume. I even went and ordered a pattern from ebay for crying out loud. Like I couldn’t just throw one together myself? Anyway, I want this to be sort if nice and long lasting. He loves to dress up. I feel like knit would look the part, wouldn’t it? But this is out of my comfort zone. Any thoughts?

Pity he doesn’t fit into the bedtime story ps pj’s. With a belt they would make excellent ninja costume. Most martial arts suits are very lose and made from heavy weight cotton. You could probably use a basic pair of Pj pants for the bottom.

I’m finishing up the neckband on the second smock!

He’s mostly concerned about the hood/mask and being able to carry the sword in his shirt, so I might just make a hood and whatever the thing is that goes on top is called, and belt. But it needs to be washable. Can you imagine how gross that mask is after a snoty child wears it all afternoon? yuk.

Oh yeah, needs to be very washable! And a knit mask hood should be very comfortable 🙂

My kids were ninjas for Halloween. They too were concerned mostly with their faces being covered. I basically made knit hoods with the part that would be the face opening on a regular pattern piece placed on the fold. Then, I slipped them on their heads (they looked like a sock at this point), marked where the holes needed to be, and cut slits for nose, mouth, and eyes after that. They still use them for dress up. You are right, they get really nasty and wet after a few hours of play.

I’m in one of those stages that I have several projects going at once. Next up I’ll be finishing yet another button-down shirt for my boy. This time in a fun liberty print.

Agree that knit would be the way to go (and nicely washable too). Ninja costumes … I guess this is what I have to look forward to, having a boy now! I’ve had a little taste of boy costume sewing lately. It’s not quite as fun as sewing frilly dresses, but yesterday I gave one little boy his new cape and it was SO fun to watch him run around the playground trying to make it fly out from behind him. He told his mama “I’m going to wear this every day.” That was such a nice reward.

I have sewn three pairs of jeggings in the last three days, and now that I have the pattern alteration down, I’m sure I’ll make more. It’s so nice for my skinny girl to have pants that fit. I also made myself a new Plantain. Not sure what I will do next.

Still no swimwear completed. I have lost enthusiasm – not for sewing the swimwear but for sewing the swimwear for my kids only to be told they (well one of them) failed swimming lessons fourth time in a row!

At least on the up side I have the patterns traced and I may feel inclined to make them in a month or so, so we can get a second opinion on our swimming skills.

We are currently coordinating a move so really don’t feel like/ have time for sewing.

I do need to though, sew a Diplomat dress to wear for World day of Prayer and to mum’s birthday party. I have chosen linen. This will need to be completed by the 6th of March. So hopefully the sewing room will be functioning before then.
