I’ve modify the music class blouse to be a long nightgown with yoke and gathers, it is not sewn yet but all cut out. Today I hope to finish another Petti skirt that has been half done since last year, it was the one that broke my machine, but since their next birthday is coming up I had better finish it!

What fabric are you using for the Music class nightgown? Such a clever idea for this!

cybele727 we did this therapy for our now 9 year old son. He did get to where he loved the way the brush felt on his arms then wanted us to brush his back. Kids can be so funny at times.

I used to do the running the fingers in circles on the back as a way to help my toddlers (in long day care and my own) to sleep. Most of them loved it. One child even requested me draw pictures instead of circles. A nice soothing way to relax I think – even though I hate being tickled.

I went fabric shopping again today. The local (one in the nearest big town) quilt shop is closing down which is just so sad. But I managed to pick up some bag fixtures and a fedora hat pattern which will come in handy. Those along with some fabric that you couldn’t get elsewhere and some fat quarters to use to make the colour wheel quilt I have been itching to do for a while now – you know the colours that aren’t generally in the stash but are vital for a particular project such as that one – for me it’s yellow and orange and some greens but I could probably cover the rest.

So I am hoping tomorrow will be a sew all day kind of day as I have birthday items to make and floral dress to finish – lots to do.

Mamaknowles my friend found a grey and white striped doona cover at the Op shop which I’ll use for at least 2, she also found a yellow plaid doona cover. Not sure what a doona cover is called in North America?

I have nearly finished the red and black petti skirt! One seam, the elastic casing and threading the elastic and it will all be done!

I am so excited, I sewed!

Not much, just a hour’s worth but I am so excited.

I made up the bodice on Zara’s dress. I sewed the original bust darts in place and I will baste in bigger ones for now.

    So happy.

Good on you Nicole! Glad you actually made it to the machine if but for an hour – it’s progress that count isn’t it?! Today is a sewing day – I’m making it that way!

Besides being totally inspired to try out some of the seaming techniques on the craftsy class with Katrina Walker, I plan to finish the floral dress that is half constructed and then work on the cut out Art Museum pants, although the blue drill I used is a bit bright. Never mind we will find a use for it. I am hoping to get at least one pair finished today.

Oh, I think we’ve done this one before — a doona is a duvet cover, right? A down- or fiber-filled quilted bedcovering with removable, washable covers?

    Tamara @justsewit

Yep! For us we called duvets, doonas and breadspreads are like quilts – flat and cover the bed sometimes to the floor and they sometimes are long enough to create a cover for the pillow. I know O had that confusion when picking a duvet for me bed on returning from a year in the UK as a child. They term it as duvet also.

Thanks for the clarification on a doona cover! I only have the elastic left to add to my black and red petti skirt, then another one will be crossed off my WIP list! I have traced a vest from Ottrobe that is very similar to the Art Museum Vest except has larger sizes. I have plans to add princess seams, front lacing and colour blocking to make girly vest.

I’m reminded of a fresh off the boat Irish observational comedian starting a joke that sounded like this:

“D’ya evah ‘ave trubble gittin yah dinnah bak in it’s bahg?”

Which was met with complete silence until someone in the crowd finally worked it out and yelled out” You mean dooooo-na” and on went the joke about putting doonas/duvets back in their bags with the audience now following along.

What am I sewing now? I was trying to participate in Selfish Sewing Week but a 24hr power outage has just had me emptying the fridge instead!
