One dress and one skirt from the WHS pile all done!

Thank you Heidi and Lightning for your tips about my proposed 2 + 2 skirt. Mind you, nothing is going to happen in near future if the mother doesn’t send me the new measurements for her girls that I requested nearly a week ago. It can be so frustrating be a long-distance sewist. I can live with seam at hem line provided I take the time to match up the fabric.

Wanted to post this morning but library computer makes it too hard to log in; however, was able to luxuriate in much clearer/bigger Flickr pictures from the O + S group than I can get on home PC. In particular, the collages were wonderful. Hope all those who loaded them are congratulating themselves on their 2012 achievements. It’s just so wonderful to see all the beautiful work being done out there – here’s hoping some of these skills will be passed onto the next generation.

Finished a little yoked skirt for next door neighbour’s 3 yr old niece, this afternoon, and now on to the outfits for Melbourne baby which I intend to take with me next week. Forecast for this and next week is for several 40+C days here, so am glad I have a few clothes cut out so I can distract myself from the rotten weather by sewing. One of the things I had forgotten abt dressmaking is how much cooler it is than quilting. Not nearly as much pressing with iron, or standing at ironing board hauling fabric about.

Hang in there, justsewit in your quest for school uniform fabric; don’t let the commercial companies grind you down!

PS: Heidi, hope your cold clears up soon, and I love WHS – it so exactly describes my boxes of cut out quilt fabrics, and patterns earmarked to cross-stitch. Much more accurate, and yet not as discouraging/despairing as UFO. (An acronym in common use in the quilting world which I’ve always disliked). Look fwd to seeing pics of Vintage A Line; don’t know the pattern, but sounds handy.

Needle woman I think I have found the fabric for school, well at least I am hoping it is one of two prints that could be a possibility. Both are out of the U.S which is the only place that came up. Fingers crossed it isn’t the 100% polyester fabric print as it is a bit ugly and well I’d hate to be the teacher in the class for of kids wearing that fabric in 47 degree heat! They’d need pegs on their noses! So all I have to do now is wait to see a sample made up and go from there.

No sewing today, but I may get to escape and go get things for sewing. It also involves wild goose chases regarding wrong Christmas gifts but that part should be sorted in two seconds. Spotlight is on the list to visit as is Janome. I am so very much looking forward to using the machines again.

Note to self: bring hand sewing next time so I don’t get itchy fingers!

Wow, that is encouraging justsewit, I really hope they haven’t chosen a polyester fabric, really stupid in that heat!!!

Needle woman, yes cold all gone! The Vintage A-line’s are from a vintage pattern book by Enid Gilchrist. She published multiple sewing magazines in the 50’s/60’s/70’s in Australia.

Sounds like everyone is happy busy sewing. 🙂

I just finished a messenger bag, thanks you McStitch for help on the pockets!! I am very happy how it came out and it was really a lot of fun to sew. I though it would be harder to make than what it was. Al the four older kiddos love it so much that they want me to mak ethem all one too. Maybe I squeeze one in for my littleboy’s birthday this next week, that is if I can finish up his other birthday sewing first.

Next onto Children at Play rocket flannel pj’s for G’s 7th birthday. I decided not to make any clothes right npow for him because the two middle boys already have way too many clothes. Then onto a reading tent. I will have ro wait until Monday to make the reading tent though so he doesn’t see me working on it. 😉 I think I need to make a pretty skirt this weekend too. I can have it cut out and calling my name!

Great Sharon, I’m glad it helped. I was certainly pleased that I went to the trouble to redraft the pocket flaps a bit bigger.

Secret sewing is tricky isn’t it. the reading tent sounds intriguing…

I’ve just made a size 3 Music Class Skirt for my neighbour’s little girl, out of the leftover green lego fabric. I didn’t have a waist measurement for her so I made a little window in the waistband and used button-hole elastic. I’m sure someone’s blogged it already but I just made it up as I went along and it went along just perfectly!

I desperately want to sew something pretty!

Are you making a wigwam sort of thing Sharon?

McStitch, perhaps create a set on flickr of the steps and you can link to that if you don’t have a blog.

I have 1 polo and two shorts to go but my ironing basket is horrendous!

Nearly there Nicole! Is it my imagination or have you sewn a LOT of school uniforms this year?

Cut out a 12-18m Tea party sundress in grey with a floral insert (front panel). I’m thinking of adding an invisible zipper into the side seams as a few of my friends have noticed that as the child grows although it still fits it can be hard to get on.

A side zipper sounds like a great idea. I’ve found the Teaparty and the Jump Rope are both a struggle to get past the shoulders, then they fit perfectly.

I have the same problem to McStitch with Jump rope dress too. It the dress is made big on her it goes on fine but as the fit of the dress get better the dress is a bit harder to put on.

Nicole it’s like a wigwam sort of but the sides are all fabric and it hangs from teh ceiling. To keep teh round shape of the top it has a hulahoop in the top. I bought a pattern for this well over a year ago and have yet to make it.

Sewing is a no go today, the baby has a ear infection so I didn’t get hardly a wink of sleep last night and tonight is looking to be the same. I spent the better part of last night and today cuddling little man. I hope he gets to feeling better soon, I feel so bad for him. 🙁

I wonder if an zipper that is closed at the top and bottom (not sure what they are called) inserted into the seam of the jumprope would help with getting it on and off. Like in really expensive ladies dresses.

Hope baby gets better and you get some sleep mama_knowles.

Heidi,I always seem to be making uniforms!

Poor bubby and poor mummy,Sharon. Does feeding/nursing him help?

Only two pairs of shorts to go!

    Do de do de do….

    Tamara @justsewit

Sharon that reading tent sounds really interesting – can’t wait to see it when you are done. Hope little C feels better soon and you are both sleeping again – my son suffered badly from ear infections at that age so I can understand what you are going through, often got them along with teeth would you believe!

Needlewoman the whole idea sounds crazy! And am really looking forward to getting the show on the road – I hate not knowing what it all looks like.

I’ll be hopefully spending some time sewing Monday as that is the earliest I can get in to the nook. Top of the agenda are shorts and t shirts as there is an extreme shortage – so much so that I had to go and purchase some. I want to attempt to get as much from the basket of cut things done as possible in the next couple of weeks and then it will be onto school things, uniforms and other things – the kids can help on some of them.
