Hey, what's wrong here?

@Justmejay, that sounds like a caching issue to me. We’ll have @admin look into that for us.
10 years ago LINK10 years ago LINK@Justmejay: I’ve tweaked the way the site is cached to help alleviate this.
For users who are logged in, the site serves the freshest data possible by building every page anew every time it’s viewed. That keeps it very up-to-date. For anonymous users (those not logged in), the first time a page is viewed, we keep a cache of that for 15 minutes and hand this out to subsequent visitors. This saves our server a good deal of resources and helps keep the site fast.
The downside is, that if you’re looking anonymously on one device and logged in on another, you may notice differences between your logged in and fresh copy, and the cached and slightly stale copy.
Previously, we used to keep pages for up to two hours. 15 minutes should be a lot better.

9 years ago LINKI have pushed out some changes that should make the layout a little more tidy and compact on phones and tablets. Some of the layout issues with Kindle Fires should be fixed now, too.
9 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviHi @admin — if you ever run completely out of other things to do (and not sure this bit is even your job) — it looks like the logo needed to be pushed just a speck to the left. Screencap attached. See how the lower right loop of the ‘s’ is shaved a bit?
Or has it always been that way? Like the little scissors have trimmed its seam allowance?

9 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviThis is also not a ‘broken’ but a usability question — would it be possible to modify the @ function so it uses the screen name rather than the profile name?
Here: http://oliverands.com/community/forums/topic/fiber-club#post-41778
I had originally written it out as @Nicole which is how her name appears when I’m reading through the thread, but that didn’t resolve into a link to her profile. I had to float my cursor over “@Nicole” to find the profile name was “motherof5” and then put that after the @ symbol.
9 years ago LINKJustine J @justmejayAhhhh, thanks for mentioning this Sarvi – I have been meaning to for while – yes, can this be addresses somehow? Many of us (myself included) have a different user name & screen name
9 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchI just discovered that using emoticons (required if you’re picking a friendly fight with admin)causes some kind of break and only the comment up to that point gets published.
Doesn’t matter ’cause we still have colons and brackets, but the newer prefabricated emoticons don’t work.
🙂9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Did it again.

Help, Hugo!9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI managed to read it Nicole, don’t stress! Yes! In a nutshell. I click on the site address which is in my saved addresses drop down box on the ipad (you know the one that says “favourites”) and it starts loading and then stops abruptly!
I have to click it again to get it to budge!
And sometimes the same happens when I want to submit a message too!
9 years ago LINKIt’s been a while since I’ve checked this thread, but thanks everyone for the continued feedback. I’ve put these newer issues into queue for future releases.
Page load times are an issue that we’re continuing to look into and improve. We’ve made several changes behind the scenes in recent months that have been intended to speed up the whole site for people located outside North America. (A lot of the files that make a web page viewable are now being served from servers in Melbourne and Sydney for those of you in Australia.) We use tools to test the site from different locations around the world, and we’re able to see that the forums particularly are still slower in Australia than in North America. If you have a slow connection to the internet on top of that, it just compounds the problem.
@motherof5 it’s interesting that you say the page loads differently between laptop and phone. Are you using different connections to the internet for the two devices (i.e., are you on a mobile network for the phone and your home network on the laptop or are both devices on the same wifi network)? And Nicole and @justsewit are you connecting via http or are you trying to connect using a secure link that starts with https? That might make a difference.
Any feedback you have would be helpful to us in fine tuning the site for optimal load times.
9 years ago LINKI am in the U.S. but I have also noticed a problem with the site loading – it has been at least a month, and it happens on both my computer and my husband’s iPad. I always have to go up to the search bar on my browser and hit enter to make it reload before it will load up. If I don’t do that, it just says “loading” indefinitely. This is for the whole site, though, not just the forums.
9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Yes @Todd Gibson, my phone is on a different provider.
I am not sure about the http thingy, I shall ask Hugo!9 years ago LINKcybele727 @cybele727I am in the US. I have to double load the O & S site too. But only on mobile devices, whether on cell or wifi. (iPad/iPhone).
My desk top loads ok, and both are wifi.
As to http or https, my address bar shows neither. There is no http displayed.
