Nirmala D replied to the topic Which way is up on the waistband pieces? in the forum liesl + co: saint-germain wrap dress 3 years ago
Hi Karin,
I am no expert but am working on a muslin of the Saint Germaine. If you look at the printed pattern pieces for the waistband, note which way the lettering and name of the pattern piece goes. This will indicate which side is UP for each piece. And, you are right, it is not intuitive – one does slightly curve up and the other slightly…[Read more] -

The waistband pieces are curved, and the instructions warn to put them rightside up, but I see no markings to tell me which side is up. It doesn’t seem intuitive, since I’m not clear whether the band is intended to sit at or above the waist (I want it at the waist, ideally). The layout suggests one piece should curve up, the other curve down. Kind…[Read more]

I am stumped on step 1 of the directions for the classic shirt! The pattern says to cut a 1 inch planket… but then it goes on to say to baste 1/2 in… then add a 1 inch piece of interfacing to that basting line. I already cut the piece off. If I add the interfacing on at that 1/2 inch mark, fold over, and then stich onto the shirt with a 1/2…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Art Smock Sizing in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 3 years ago
Because the pattern is for a smock that is meant to be very loose fitting and worn over clothes, sizing is much more forgiving. We have made this available only in Small, Medium, and Large sizes instead of in numbered sizing. We recommend using size Small for children between 6 months and 3 years. But to confirm the best sizing for your specific…[Read more]

I am wanting to make the art smock in a size 1 and a size 2..which of course would be much smaller than a size 3.
Any ideas on how I do this please, my pattern is S,M or L
Thank you -

Kathy Eastwood started the topic Having trouble adjusting neckline in the forum liesl + co: chai tee 3 years ago
Hi!
I love the way my chai Tee fits, but I’d like a higher neckline so that I get less sun on my chest (I’ve had too much sun over the years). I am trying to adjust the neckline on the pattern, and I have tried to measure the ratio of the neckband to the neckline in order to cut the neckband to the correct length. However, I keep calculating…[Read more]

Nirmala D started the topic Sleeve and armhole for Classic Shirt in the forum liesl + co: classic shirt 3 years ago
Can you offer some advice? Photos are of muslin with sleeve basted in. I started with Size 6 D cup and graded to Size 10/12 at hips. Because my upper arms are heavy, I made a 1/2″ wide arm adjustment to the sleeves and used size 10 for sleeve. First question- are the shoulders too broad? Then the sleeve is clearly not yet well sewn – but it…[Read more]

Anne replied to the topic Attaching facing to lining in the forum liesl + co: woodland stroll cape 3 years ago
Yes, I appreciate the difference between SA vs cut edge, although it’s helpful to know that the expected length difference is 1 inch. I do seem to have a bit too much length in the facing piece but I can make it work.
Thanks so much for your replies!

I can’t see the centre back fold marking on your lining piece, so it’s hard to see if that’s been cut too short.
But…. Main point is that raw edges don’t line up, stitching lines do. So, with a half inch seam allowance, those pattern pieces should actually overlap by 1″.
Try that and see how they fit. -

Anne replied to the topic Attaching facing to lining in the forum liesl + co: woodland stroll cape 3 years ago
I’m just understanding it wrong, I think.
My fabrics are too dark to photograph clearly so I’ve attached a photo of the paper pattern pieces. I’ve laid out the pieces for the facing and lining right side up, aligned at the notch. My understanding is the outside curve of the back facing attaches to the inside curve of the lining neck, right…[Read more]

Hi Anne, do you have notches or pattern markings present but not lining up?
If the markings are all present then you might have the wrong size, or an error somewhere.
If there’s no markings to line up then I’m guessing you’re trying to attach the facing upside down.Check your pattern pieces, then check you’ve transferred all the markings…[Read more]

I’m having a (conceptual?) problem attaching the facing to the back lining. The length of the outer curve of the facing is about 6 cm longer than the curve of the lining neck, and I expected them to be the same length since the instructions say to first match the outer edges. Am I misunderstanding the instructions for how to arrange them? My…[Read more]
