My little girl is about to outgrow
Her coat, her frock, and chapeau
I’d better get sewing
Because there’s no knowing
Homemade will be met with a ‘No’.Babies grow far, far too fast.

I have just finished two Liesl+Co Bento tees for my daughter, Zara (16).
One is in a very light knit which sewing the neck line nearly gave me a nervous breakdown (but turned out beautifully) and the other a weighty, draping cotton/modal.
Both look stunning paired with the two pairs of CityGym shorts I #queuejump sewed for her so she has something…[Read more] -

Sew Alongs 10 years agoI finally got my tunic finished and photographed for the link party/giveaway. I am very happy with how it came out overall. It’s super comfortable and pretty. I will definitely make this tunic again (but next the dress version). Thanks for the tips and photos!

I am currently sewing the tutu and am a bit confused as to whether the short length ribbon should be sewn on the outside or the inside of the gathered layers. Can anyone please advise? Thank you.

Yes, I completely understand your concerns. We’ve addressed it in our family by never using S’s name, and I try to be careful not to post specifics about where we live, where she goes to school, etc. You have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

Thanks Tamara and Liesl 🙂
I’ll have to line them, rather than underlining, as I’ve already made up the main pants section, it just needs hemming and the waistband.
Thanks for such prompt responses! -

I’m with Tamara. When in doubt, line to protect baby’s skin. You could also underline and treat both layers of fabric as one, which can be a nice option with the same general effect.

Hi Liesl,
Yes, that is incredibly helpful. Thanks for clarifying re: the pocket stitching and for the tips about getting the fit right and what to look for – plus skipping muslin!
Thank you so much, very helpful!

Heidi I would line them in a cotton. The wool sounds as though it could irritate sensitive baby skin. I’d use a cotton as natural fibres are best for baby.

I’m making size 6-12m Lullaby Layette pants in slightly scratchy grey wool. I’m wondering about if it would be a good idea to line them and with what? I’ve got satin type lining fabrics as well as cotton/poly cotton.
These will be a gift.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Question about sewing pocket lining on Everyday skirt in the forum liesl + co: everyday skirt 10 years ago
Hi Cat, the stitching for the pocket should continue to the edge of the fabric.
The fit of this skirt depends on how much you cinch up the back elastic. Ideally, the back panel should be about the same width as the front panel when the elastic is cinched to fit you. This will balance the skirt so it’s the same fullness all the way around. I…[Read more]
