I finished 3 Deer and Doe tees and one drafted from a favourite body shirt (very fitted for wearing under shirts).
I am not sure what Modal actually is, @needlewoman (off to Google) but it is very stretchy with great recovery but tricky to handle.
I may have likened it to sewing snot 😉

Hi @eboyd83.
The main thing, with hemming knits, is keeping enough ease and stretch so that the hem doesn’t ‘pop’ when being worn or put on and off.
I have a cover-stitch machine (which is great when it works). Before that, I used to neaten the raw edge with a zig zag, turn press and then stitch with a large stitch (3.5) stretching in the fabric…[Read more]

Hi. I’m about to make this and am pretty new to seeing with knits. Can I use a rolled hem foot or some such method to finish the hem? Suggestions please thanks.

Who would want to wash their face with a rag??? I am picturing old underwear and torn shirts covered in grease and oil – ergh! You’d never get that off your face!
No I think you are doing the right thing by making lovely linen tea towels😉 That will dry your dishes in no time and then dry themselves just as fast.
Today, it is supposed to be…[Read more]

and then there’s the facebook folks who try to “friend” me by sending a request and a message going on and on about how beautiful I am and a soul mate and they want to marry me! I admit to being a bit flattered even as I block them from my page.I noticed that the spammer here has the last name of Smith, let me reassure everyone, it’s not me!

Teatowels sounds ever so much more elegant than dish towels. From now on I am making teatowels! When we first married my southern born husband called dish cloths and face cloths
“wash rags” which he tells me is what his Cherokee granny called them and there is no arguing with the granny who raised him, bless her soul. I just kept using the terms…[Read more] -

Hi Shannon, I’m in BC. Surrey Digital Printing. Their website is great. You’re in Oshawa according to your profile. Try 4k Prints. Or google large format printing and the city you live in.

Hi Shannon, I’m in BC. Surrey Digital Printing. Their website is great. But, it’s a big country. What province are you in?

@renee very often it is a case of the spammer not speaking English as their first language so this is why the language would be unusual. It is similar to things such as stories you would hear in current affairs regarding lonely people having money stolen from these people because they think they enter into a relationship with them. They pray on…[Read more]

Hey Robin – what’s your local print shop? Trying to find somewhere to get a pattern printed in Canada and no luck so far. Staples only seems to print on 24×36 pages, not from a roll…argh.

Good to know. I was puzzled by the language.

That sounds like a great use of extra fabric. But I have to say that dish towels (we call them teatowels here) are required and necessary whether you have a dishwasher or not as there is always going to be some handwashing. It’s a bit like sewing. There is always going to be some handsewing.
At one stage linen was uses for bath towels aswell!

Right now I am sewing up some much needed items for my kitchen. Scraps are turning into nice nice potholders/hot pads. I picked up some nice quality heavier weight linen from Fabrics-Store and I am making some dish towels with that. I do not have a dishwasher and have no intention of getting one so dish towels are put to hard use here. The linen…[Read more]

This black skirt is headed for the bin! It has lumps and bumps of half sewn buttonholes all over it and quite frankly I give up. i would rather just go buy some more black corduroy and start again. This time of course trimming down the seams!
So I sent just one lane raglan tshirt as I just ran out of time to finish the other before heading to…[Read more]

@liesl I know! I just want it to be right you know? I still have these little insecurities about my sewing even after years of practise. But it is about perfecting the skill. And despite show winning entries and the like my daughter loves the things I make her and she actually requested I make this. But I didn’t add the pocket she wanted so I have…[Read more]

Looking forward to seeing you model your new tee, N, and congratulations on completing H’s blazer. What’s modal? Me too, about this book, Liesl. At risk of being awkward/demanding, is your book ‘coming out’ instead of new kids’ patterns? It occurred to me that it’s about “now” that your new Spring/Summer patterns have been launched, in the past,…[Read more]

Ha, ha; well spotted. Don’t have access to the channels to watch this show but I love the GB Bake Show. So refreshing in style/format and delivery in comparison to sheer boredom of similar Aussie shows.

I like the idea of a boyfriend dress, T, and of course, Liesl is right – most people have no idea that male/female button panels differ. My latest error was this morning. I was attaching bias to hem the latest Sandbox pants in wide-wale corduroy. Sewed the bias around one leg, and then joined the bias to fit. When trimming the bias ends, I cut…[Read more]
