I didn’t end up doing the embroidery, thought it would get too busy. But thank you so much for your detailed explanation. Will definitely use on next one.Ava

Ava started the topic Has anyone done zipper instead of buttons in back of yoke? in the forum oliver + s: hide-and-seek 9 years ago
Wow finally finished the Hide and Seek. It looks great and so professional. I didn’t have an automatic buttonhole on my machine, so wondering if it will be quicker to add a zipper to the back yoke? Anyone done this?

Hi there!
I am very very new to sewing and am attempting the firefly jacket for the first time. Would anyone who’s made this before be able to help me with Step 4? Am I supposed to sew the elastic/ribbon the right side of fabric A both left-hand and right-hand sides?
or is it on the right side of the fabric for the left-hand part of the…[Read more]

Yes, I have an embroidery machine. Even with a 17×12 hoop, the skirt took three hooping a!!

The dress looks awesome @caraskates. I’m assuming the embroidery was done by machine?

I ended up just going with the Fairy Tale since I’ve made it before. I changed the collar to a stand collar, embroidered everything and made a separate vest. I also eliminated all hand sewing because this is a costume/everyday wear. I topstitched the lining to the outer dress at the center back zipper. I’ll add some more photos on Flickr but…[Read more]

Jill, can you shorten it half way down the straight part of the crotch? Then you will loose the length but not interfere with the pockets or back yoke.

I know this is an old post, but I am having the same issue with the lisette pajama pants. The rise is too long but if I roll the top they are perfect. I would shorten like you instructed, but the pattern has a back yoke and pockets which I believe will be impacted if I just shorten it from the waistband. Any help would be great! Thanks.

I should have added more length! Apparently my older niece’s blouse *just* fits, length-wise, but both were well-received.

I do a lot of upcycling. I try to rip seams when possible, but if I know I’ll have enough fabric (if I’m turning my husband’s pants into my toddler’s pants, for instance), I’ll often just cut right next to the seams instead of ripping a faux-flat fell + serged edge. I try to match up pants pattern pieces with the corresponding part of the real…[Read more]

So, I love the idea of making kids clothes out of old clothes that I need to toss or give away and have stashed clothes away for this purpose, but I don’t actually know how to go about doing it. For example, is finding the grain of the fabric to line up your pattern pieces difficult? I was wanting to make my daughter a pair of the after-school…[Read more]

Ok, sewists, I need your help! I’m ready to send out testing packages for our next Liesl + Co patterns, and I’m looking for two specific sizes:
I need someone who wears a C-cup (2″ different between your high bust and full bust) for a shirt pattern.
I’m also looking for someone who wears a size 16, 18, or 20 to test a shorts and a skirt pattern.…[Read more]

That’s a great idea! I do seem to always have a few extra blocks lying around and don’t know what to do with them, even though I’m not a big quilter. And after my daughter’s recent birthday, I felt just awful about the enormous pile of gift wrap we recycled. A nice reusable gift bag is much better!

I just made 3 3D pinwheel blocks to see what they were like. I was wondering what I would do with 3 random patchwork blocks.
Then I realized they were the size of the whole front on the LTTS drawstring bag! So I have turned one of them into a drawstring bag and have the rest of the fabric for the other two 🙂
I thought others might have a similar…[Read more] - Load More
