I made the size 10 for one of my daughters and there is 42” (approx) of fullness through the waist.

What a great tip – now I just have to convince my other half to take me there and spend non-existent plastic money!

I rather like this about the O+S patterns, they are not a ‘fast’ sew (well, a few pieces are). However, the techniques encourage one to sew better.

I really agree with the “slow down and enjoy yourself” mentality towards sewing. I feel like all too often I’m in a race with myself to sew things faster then I can think them up. I’m never going to catch up on the sewing list so really I need to quit trying! Having said that, I want my kid’s wardrobes to be entirely handmade. Hmm.. conflicting…[Read more]

Thanks for info, Heidi. Between your advice and Nicole’s it does seem I should have asked for hip measurements. The shorts are finished now and I’m pleased with them- let’s just hope they fit! I will be arriving in Canada lunch time Thursday and can’t wait to see them all. I think there are more clothes for Rose than for me!

I always go by the hip rather than the waist measurement. If it helps my tall slim 5 year old niece has a waist measurement of 22.5″, Size 6, and a hip measurement of 23.5″, size 4, and is very tall, I just made her leggings the length of size 8!
