I’m sure I will make friends here and we will all enjoy ourselves. One of the ladies we met on the snow day is coming this afternoon with her nearly three year old daughter. It is Audrey’s birthday today! My big girl is three 🙂
I’m a bit of an expert on mastitis (definitely not something to be envied!!!). I had ten bouts of it within 16 months…[Read more]

miss_sonja started the topic Cape Ann flannel fat quarter bundle by Moda–anyone interested? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
I bought a fat quarter bundle of Cape Ann, not realizing it was flannel. I don’t quilt with flannel, so I won’t use it. But it’s the lovely Cape Ann design by Liesl. I’d love it to get to a good home where it would be used.
I’d like to sell it for $80, U.S. shipping included. No idea what international shipping would be, but happy to check if desired.

brenda1652 replied to the topic Bonded fabric in the forum off topic 10 years ago
The fabrics stayed nice and soft too but I did not make anything with pleats as I assumed that it would be impossible to get a crisp pleat fold. The bonding fabric was a soft shiny lining knit of some kind. I would machine wash and dry my bonded knits at home but the wools went off to the cleaners. They all held up really well.

Bonded fabrics arrived on the home sewing apparel scene about 47 yrs ago, when I was 16 and I loved them. I used to create cute shorts style zip front jump suits in bonded knits for school (the legs were wide enough to pass as culottes) as well as culotte skirts in wools and knits and even a tent dress (remember those you more “mature” sewers?!)in…[Read more]

(With apologies for the tangent…) I have been thinking that it would be brilliant to see a map with who lives where and sews o+s on it. Not exact locations, maybe counties or something. I think it’s really interesting seeing people pop up from other countries (India and Malaysia recently) and I am also really interested about who is close to…[Read more]

yes, it does look like a lot of work. I thought initially it might be more functional but I’ll have to ponder it for a bit. With about 4 feet of snow still on the ground, spring jackets are a distant dream for now anyway!!

Jillls replied to the topic what can I make for myself with a yard of 60" velvet? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
You could make a tunic version of the cinema dress and make the front and back yokes out of a different fabric.

I don’t have this pattern, I have the School Days coat though and it works excellently lined…

Wow, that is a lot of work but looks amazing! I am sure that would work.
I am not a fan of binding seams (I love the look just find it a bit tedious) I would wonder about flannel for the main and something silky for the sleeves?
But I am sure the underlining would work really well.

I took a peek at your post, Nicole. Lovely jacket, I can see why it had lots of wear!
I don’t think I want to line it per se because I would like to use flannel and I’m not sure how that would work for a lining. Might be too “sticky”? I thought if I underlined it, it would up the cozy factor but wouldn’t be too bulky. I’m just talking off…[Read more]

I would love a larger size hat pattern. My offspring have gi-normous heads.
