Kerrilyn replied to the topic Alterations: How to lower front waistband (& keep back high), w/o changing hem grain line? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
On the Peek A Boo Skinny Jeans (not an O+S pattern) the front is lower rise. They achieved this by curving the top of the front piece from the side seam to the centre front. Obviously this would not work for a fold over waistband but did work for the two pairs of jeans I made with attached waistbands. Good rear coverage and no bunching at the…[Read more]

Yes long sewing rooms do have that advantage don’t they?
Yesterday, I made a start on the three bubbles by sewing the skirt pieces together. I have two yet to press out the curvy sides and then I can sew the linings to the skirt of two of them because I haven’t yet cut a third.
I also have topstitching on the little Tea party dress bodice to do…[Read more]

Rosie replied to the topic Digital vs. Paper? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
I bought a digital pattern the other day, and went to get it printed at a print place, alas it doesn’t fit on A0, the largest I can get printed here in Australia at my local print place :-(. For this reason I would pick paper patterns. You can tape the digital together but I find them harder to store and prefer one big piece of paper.

Three weeks into sewing Hugo’s peacoat and the end is in sight
I have a long sewing room so I put Trixie up one end and by the time she wriggles her way to me I have a bit done and move her back againThat said, I think it is time for the barricades to go up, she will be crawling soon I guess

I just put it over the end of the ironing board and keep turning it until I have pressed all the skirt.
Then a give it a good shake and fluff up the bubble -

I’m making a bubble dress out of 100% cotton. The garment will have to be ironed after laundering. Can anyone suggest how to press the skirt part? You must have to stretch the elastic at the same time, and I can’t think how this might be done. Thanks in advance!

Wow not long to go at all!
Yes I thought I would have no opportunity either for the first few months but she isn’t the trickiest baby I’ve had. We seem to have fallen into a little pattern where she will sleep long enough for me to do something. Of course it doesn’t always go to plan like yesterday where she spent some time in the swing while I…[Read more]
